110303_louie_gohmert_ap_605-600x325Texas congressman Louie Gohmert has not exactly demonstrated a mastery of managing his own mouth. Gohmert was a guest speaker yesterday at an event that has become a reliable source for insane outbursts from self-styled “conservatives,” the  Family Research Council’s so-called Value Voter Summit. The congressman did not disappoint:

When it comes to the shutdown that’s going on, I heard just before I came some senator from Arizona [Gohmert was referring to Sen. John McCain], uh, a guy that liked Qaddafi before he wanted to bomb him, a guy that liked Mubarak before he wanted him out, a guy that’s been to Syria and supported al Qaeda and rebels, but he was saying today the shutdown has been a fool’s errand. And I agree with him. The president and Harry Reid should not have shut this government down! When it comes to the shutdown that’s going on, I heard just before I came some senator from Arizona, uh, a guy that liked Qaddafi before he wanted to bomb him, a guy that liked Mubarak before he wanted him out, a guy that’s been to Syria and supported al Qaeda and rebels, but he was saying today the shutdown has been a fool’s errand.
