paris-apartment-buildingNow here’s a real estate bargain with an unexpected amenity: great location, nice views, and a mummified dead body.

A French man opened the door to his recently purchased apartment on Friday to find the mummified body of a previous owner hanging in his new home. According to AFP, the corpse had been hanging in the Bussy-Saint-Georges apartment undisturbed for eight years.

Despite the passing of time, the dead man had not decomposed. “The body was in perfect condition, as was the apartment,” a police source said.

The suburban Paris home previously belonged to a Cambodian man who was fired from his job as a security guard in 2005. The man, who was in his 40s, filed a labor complaint and was never heard from again. The man had severed ties to his family, so no one thought to look for him. Neighbors believed he’d returned to Cambodia.

Instead, police suspect the man used a sheet to commit suicide.

A bank eventually repossessed the apartment after the man failed to make his mortgage payments.

The apartment’s new owner thought he’d snagged a good deal when he bought the supposedly vacant home at an auction. It was one of 20 units in the four-story building.
