Renisha McBride was killed by a homeowner when she rang his bell after being in a car accident. The shooter says it was an accident.

Police have since seized and are examining the homeowner’s weapon, a 12-gauge shotgun. The homeowner, who remains unidentified, told police that the gun had “discharged accidentally.” Police have neither confirmed nor denied that the homeowner has been arrested.

“This man’s claiming that the girl was breaking into the home. And he’s also saying the gun discharged accidentally,” Lt. James Serwatowski, the chief detective of the investigation, said.

“I know the family is anxious to see this man (the alleged shooter) charged but the prosecutor’s office is telling us they want a lot more information before they make a decision.”
