A Florida thug who groped and then battered a woman he met in a nightclub was shamed into standing in the street with a sign reading: “I beat women. Honk if I’m a scumbag.”

Gabriel Urena, from Tampa, was “persuaded” into carrying out the humiliating ordeal by his victim Alisha Hessler — who in turn promised to drop any charges.

Hessler said she hoped the embarrassment would “teach him a lesson” and “make him think twice about doing it again.”

Hessler told ABC Action News that the punishment was fitting. But she’s under fire from advocate groups who say she has “trivialized” the serious issue.

And Tampa police said she shouldn’t have taken the law into her own hands. …

On Sunday, she filed a police report.

But, incredibly, she changed her mind after seeing Urena’s remorseful Facebook status that read, “Lastnight (sic) was a wake-up call. I seriously need change.”

Instead, she messaged him saying that if he sat outside a busy intersection holding up the sign, then she wouldn’t take the case any further.

Urena, eager to avoid prosecution, accepted the offer.

He was also forced to wear a dunce’s cap.
