David Charles sold to one man who wasn’t convinced this was legal, and that’s what got him in trouble.

An Indiana man stole the brains of dead mental patients and sold them on eBay, police said.

“It is a peculiar situation,” Indianapolis Police Officer Christopher Wilburn told the Daily News. “An unsuspecting person in San Diego (who bought the brains) looked at the items and felt they were kind of suspicious in nature.”

That eBay customer noticed labels for the Indiana Medical History Museum on the six jars of human brains he purchased for $600. He alerted the museum and the Indianapolis police force, authorities said.

Police set up a sting in a Dairy Queen parking lot on Dec. 16, in which police told the eBay middle man to arrange a meeting for another organ-swapping deal with the suspected brain thief, reported the Indianapolis Star.

It is not known why the man stole the brains, but he was caught through a sting orgnaized by Indinapolis police.
