Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe says President Obama lied during his interview with Bill O’Reilly and Benghazi will turn out to be as bad as Watergate.

Inhofe said he didn’t in fact see the Sunday afternoon segment between the pugnacious Fox News host and the president, but said Obama’s remarks to O’Reilly are just another example what the Oklahoma Republican sees as a historic scandal.

“I will say this to my dying day — I know people don’t realize it now — but that’s going to go down in history as the greatest cover-up. And I’m talking about compared to the Pentagon Papers, Iran-Contra, Watergate and the rest of them. This was a cover-up in order for people right before the election to think that there was no longer a problem with terrorism in the Middle East,” Inhofe said.

In the pre-Super Bowl interview, O’Reilly said Obama’s critics allege the president’s campaign did not want the killing of four Americans in Benghazi designated a terrorist attack due to political considerations heading into the 2012 presidential election.

“They believe it because folks like you are telling them that,” Obama told O’Reilly. “What I’m saying is that is inaccurate. We revealed to the American people exactly what we understood at the time…”
