alexandria9n-4-webThe NY Daily News reports on the latest in a disturbing string of killings in Virginia, and a pattern that suggests a serial killer:

Police have launched a manhunt for a possible serial killer after a beloved music teacher and her caretaker were shot in broad daylight in the usually quiet city of Alexandria, Virginia earlier this week.

Piano instructor Ruthanne Lodato, 59, was killed Thursday after she opened the door of her home to a balding stranger around 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Police say the man also shot the caregiver as the two of them answered the door to Lodato’s home.R

Police said that the unidentified caregiver – also a woman – is expected to survive her injuries. They are waiting to question her on the identity of the man, WJLA reports.

Alexandria police released a sketch of the man on Friday and describe the person of interest as an older white man with balding gray hair and a full beard. He was last seen in a tan jacket.

According to the Washington Post, police are investigating a possible link between last Thursday’s stunning murder and two other high-profile killings in the area, including the wife of a sheriff and high-ranking transit official Ron Kirby.
