A shotgun fired by mistake caused a bullet to crash through a ceiling and strike two women at a prayer meeting.

The building was a duplex with separate residences upstairs and downstairs. Both parties were in the front rooms of the home.

Three other people who were with the two women were not injured. They were reportedly attending a prayer meeting with a local church group.

At press time, police had not released the names of the victims, as not all family members had been notified.

Terry Thacker, 59, of Marion, was charged with two counts of negligent assault in the shooting.
