Pretty damning about Greenwald’s silence on this too.
But why are we so surprised at this? Putin’s a bald-faced authoritarian, and this is just one more piece of evidence confirming it.

Yeah, the Snowden supporters seem like they’re under a Putin-imposed gag order.
I’m just waiting to see how long it takes them to figure out the incongruity of a guy lecturing us on freedom from Red China and Russia.
Then maybe they’ll figure out that taking secret information to those countries is bad and he should be prosecuted if we can get our hands on him.

THIS guy is who the right wing media and conservative christians has been praising the past few months?

No, we have not been “praising” Putin for illegal acts; we DO, however, like a leader with stones.

3/3/2014. On Fox, Giuliani Praises Putin: He’s “What You Call A Leader,”

3/12/2014 Sarah Palin compared the conservative’s hero with President Obama and said, ”people look at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil, and our President wears mom jeans and equivocates.”

3/10/2014 Fox News strategic analyst Ralph Peters was effusive in praising Russia he asserted “has a real leader, while our President is incapable and unwilling to lead.”

3/7/2014 Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Eric Bolling and Charles Payne all ripped the President for being weak while commending Putin for being macho and a tough guy on various Fox News shows.

John McCain, R- Arizona, seemed to blame the Ukraine crisis on Obama, telling the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, “this is the ultimate result of a feckless foreign policy in which nobody believes in America’s strength anymore.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, has weighed in: “We have a weak and indecisive President that invites aggression,” as did Rep. Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas: “Emboldened by President Obama’s trembling inaction, Vladimir Putin has invaded the Crimea region of Ukraine.”

        Should I go on?

Thank you, Carla, for once again showing why Media Matters, er, matters!

Like I said, earlier – Republicans like a leader with stones. NO ONE is praising illegal acts, but we do appreciate a leader who knows how to get things done.

          • arc99 May 12th, 2014 at 11:10 am

Your denial is preposterous. As noted in Carla’s post, right wingers were praising Putin and making absolutely no distinction about what was legal. If you appreciate Putin so much, follow the Edward Snowden example, dust off your passport and go visit him permanently.

Perhaps then, after a few years living in a fascist dictatorship, you will recognize that we already have a President right here who got things done.

And even when he gets something done that right wingers cannot complain about, the President is accused of “taking too much credit”.

Leading up to the bin Laden mission, the President held meetings, consuled with advisors, reviewed intelligence, and issued an order.

Abraham Lincoln did the same thing when he signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Damn that Lincoln for taking all that credit for freeing the slaves. Everyone knows that the slaves freed themselves.

just when snowden started to get drunk on his career in Russia, Putin puts the cork on the bottle.
Are any of us surprised ?

Republican idol?! Where do you people get this stuff? Putin is a thug and a thief, Obama is a thug and a thief – we don’t need another country’s bad news. What Republicans DO like is a leader with stones.
