Murder is by definition unjustified no matter the context. It makes much more sense to look at the big picture like Alan just did when deciding on legislation, even though I may not agree with some aspects of gun control. We shouldn’t be basing our opinions or legislation on what the media decides to sensationalize

So we are saying here that there would have been ZERO homicides if there were no guns in the world? I doubt it very much. In reading these sad stories many of these people were in arguments, domestic violence situations, drug activities, etc. Firearms are effective instruments, as are knives, garrottes, bats, hammers, etc. So in the gun-free world so many want to build, I am left with no better means of protection of myself when the bad guy comes at me with a knife, bat, hammer. Will I be allowed to carry those instruments of defense, or will those be taken from me as well (actually knives over 4″ are already banned in many states).

Canada has strict gun laws where one can own an AR-15 even but they do not have the problems. Why? USA No. 1 ? Not a chance.

80 in a week computes out to 49,920 in the approximately twelve years since 9/11.

50,000 civilians have been killed during the same twelve years. There are now some 72 federal agencies that have small armies of guys that use all ranges of weapons including military-grade arms.

Meantime, an academic study done by Gary Kleck and Marc Gertz in Armed Resistance to Crime: The Prevalence and Nature of Self-Defense With a Gun,” 86 The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, Northwestern University School of Law, 1 (Fall 1995), they found there are about two million, that’s 2,000,000 incidents each year in which a firearm was used to prevent a crime, and often apprehend the perpetrator.

That’s about 38,461 times in the one week referenced by the above 80.

If you could count on cops following the law and the Constitution, and an armed intruder came in, would you feel safer in a bar full of armed cops or in a bar full of guys that were disarmed on entry? (Would the kill count be lower in the recent Fort Hood incident?)
