Bob Bergdahl, the father of  U.S. soldier Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl (recently-released  after five years as a Taliban prisoner), might just have some empathy with families whose loved ones have been locked up in Guantanamo Bay for well over a decade. Sunday evening, Mr. Bergdahl tweeted a link to a Guardian video of family members urging the release of the final five Tunisian prisoners at Gitmo.

All in all a fairly innocuous sentiment — particularly considering that the prisoners in question were all cleared for release by the Bush administration, yet still  languish in captivity with neither charges nor credible evidence against them. Apparently, though, the idea of freeing brown people — even innocent ones — is just too much for some on the right. (Because Obama, probably.)  This single tweet elicited pages of responses, most along the lines of these examples, and none positive or supportive in any way.

Of course Michelle Malkin’s band of blowhards over at Twitchy are on the case, as well. Yes, the wingnuts have landed on the Bergdahl family. They’re traitors, don’t you know?

After all, here we have the dad actually supporting the release of innocent men from endless prison. And we already knew the son actually had some qualms about the U.S. mission in Afghanistan after seeing it first-hand. There clearly is some bad blood between Bowe Bergdahl and some of his fellow soldiers, at  least if social media can be believed.

Still, the fact remains that very little is actually known about the circumstances surrounding Bergdahl’s capture. Both the Army and DoD say he will not be facing any charges. He has also been promoted twice while held by the Taliban, lending even less credence to the idea that the Military views him as a traitor.

But then, when did the wingnuts ever let facts get in the way?

So now these miserable excuses for human beings will fan out across the internet in a campaign of personal attack and villification of an ordinary American family who wanted nothing other than to have their son released from a foreign prison.

Right wingers, this is a classic example of why I am not and never will be in any way shape or form, a conservative. Your side of the political aisle is inhabited by people (and I use that term loosely), who value their political ideology over basic human decency.

I would like to think that these people are a minority of conservatives, but frankly I wonder. Whether they are a majority, a significant minority, or a small fringe element, they are the face of conservatism in America and they are contemptible hypocrites.

Just a few weeks ago they were cheering for Cliven Bundy and his supporters who preferred to pick up a gun instead of obeying the law. Now, these pathetic cretins presume to lecture us about loyalty and patriotism?

To use the only kind of language they understand, these worthless pieces of sh*t have no grounds to be lecturing anyone on much of anything.

It’s not even about Bergdahl. It’s about Obama getting credit. If Romney had done it, (and I’m sure he would have), they’d be cheering.
