That paragon of restraint and good taste is at it again. Is anyone surprised?

Construction is almost finished on the enormous silver letters spelling out Donald Trump’s name on his eponymous skyscraper in downtown Chicago, much to the dismay of everyone from city residents to Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The display has been called “awful,” “extremely tasteless” and “an atrocity.”

Even the lead architect who helped design the 96-story tower is not fond of the sign. “Anything that would happen that would either reduce the size of the sign significantly or take it off would be great,” Adrian Smith told the Chicago Tribune‘s Blair Kamin. Smith previously insisted to Kamin he had “nothing to do with this sign.”

The large letters, which are 20 feet tall and will be illuminated with LED lights at night, pretty much have one main supporter.

“As time passes, it’ll be like the Hollywood sign,” Trump told Kamin earlier this month.

It’s a good thing inflated egos don’t actually take up space or Trump would have to be restricted to the open plains of the Midwest.
