A fireworks company in Jefferson County, MO, is using the word “molly to lure customers via a billboard. Citizens are outraged because “molly” also refers to a party drug.

…giant red letters [say] Molly Ahead.” Between the two lines it says “Black Market.”

The sign is an advertisement for Molly Brown’s Fireworks, which features a large inflatable woman outside.

“Molly is really just a different name for a drug that’s been around for quite a while. It’s another name for ecstasy or MDMA,” Jared Opsal, a spokesman for the St. Louis branch of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, told KDSK.

“It’s mostly targeted at younger people and it can get to a point where they can become dehydrated, they can have a heat stroke, they can even have a heart attack,” he said.

Residents told the news channel that the sign is appalling, tasteless and misplaced.

“Appalling, tasteless and misplaced” was when Madonna said “Anyone seen Molly” at that concert a while back.
This is just people exercising their God-Given Right to complain about other people exercising their God-Given Right to advertise..

I never have, although I have “tried” my share of “entertainment” these past 50 years (Sorry…I have to put it that way for legal porpoises…)
But hey, if someone want to take a pill that makes them think licking someone’s earlobe is the greatest thing on Earth since sharp cheddar, I gots no problem!
Funny how the forces of “Freedom” and “Smaller Guvmint” seem to want to clamp down on such a personal freedom with government regulation…
        Funny….

Really…..”God given rights”? So let me get this straight; some guy from the middle east who is now the imaginary man in the sky gave us rights to complain and advertise? Then again maybe you could be more specific on the exact god you’re speaking of that gave us these rights.

I’m guessing the “god” thing is snark. Personally I wish that we didn’t live in a theocracy. Oh wait…

As a Missourian, I am certain absolutely nothing will be done about it. I say this as I sit here listening to my obnoxious neighbors shooting off as many illegal fireworks as they please. It’s a tradition here It goes on for a month. It brings in lots of sales tax revenue & that’s what matters…

    • BanditBasheert June 29th, 2014 at 12:31 pm

We have that here in Arizona as well. They legalized fireworks (for the money of course) completely ignoring the fact that we are a desert that explodes in fire pretty regularly. Everything is tinder dry and my idiot neighbors (who back onto a hilltop preserve) have been shooting stuff off for a week.
On the other hand, they finally made it legal to shoot fireworks that you could legally buy.
The 4th and New Years are an awesome time to burst Burn Center populations higher.

I thought it was denoting the location of Molly Ringwald’s home.

Next they will complaining about the T/A truck stops for a connotation understood only by a few.
Please stop all the political correctness! Some folks go out of their way to feign being offended.

I think (speaking for all of us FoN’s) that political correctness is something (none) all aspire to on this blog. PC makes people all dull and boring.
