A lot of people have arachnophobia, a fear of spiders, but setting your home on fire is probably not the best way to kill the eight-legged critter.

A 34-year-old Hutchinson woman who says she lit a fire to kill a spider has been charged with aggravated arson after firefighters had to put out a small blaze in her half of a duplex.

The Hutchinson News reports the woman was arrested early Friday after five Hutchinson Fire Department trucks responded at 1:36 a.m. to extinguish the fire. Deputy Fire Chief Doug Hanen says firefighters found light smoke coming from the woman’s half of the duplex and some clothing smoldering inside the doorway.

They also found multiple points of origin for the fire, but the duplex sustained only minor smoke damage.

The genius used a cigarette lighter to ignite towels to kill the spider. Good thinking!

She could have sent it to me – I would have just fed it to my house scorpions.

    I don’t see a problem here.

I refuse to kill anything in my house, but if I seen that guy I am not sure what actions I would feel the need to take but it would not be pretty

She started the fire to catch the spider, which wiggled and jiggled and squiggled inside her. She started the fire to catch the fly. I don’t why she roasted the fly. Perhaps she’ll be charged as a pyromaniac.
