Four-year-old Lewis Roberts wore a shirt that violated the dress code of an Atlanta restaurant. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt was quite offensive to the restaurant, other diners likely reacted in horror about how classless the joint was because of the child wearing a cute shirt.

…when he and his family tried to sit down for lunch at the Tavern at Phipps Plaza, he was told he didn’t meet the “Gentlemen’s Dress Code.”

After Lewis’ family explained that he was only 4, the hostess told them they still had to leave. When they asked to speak to a manager, the manager told them the dress code extended to “gentlemen of all ages,” and they were again asked to leave.

“If we would have thought for a minute that he was inappropriately dressed, we would have gone to a different restaurant to save the embarrassment,” said the boy’s aunt.

The restaurant wouldn’t speak with WXIA-TV, but after upper management found out about the incident, the company issued a statement clarifying its policy.

“(The) rule does not apply for children and ladies — for gentleman only,” the statement from company spokeswoman Amber Stewart. “It was an embarrassing misunderstanding on our part. She’s a manager in training who had a gross misunderstanding of our policy.”

Conform to our standards or you are not welcome in our society. Hopefully the outlet soon receives a new manager and sensitivity training for the staff.

    OMFG, cover that beast-child up!

    • Eric Trommater July 3rd, 2014 at 10:26 pm

Well technically the child is wearing a version of a wife beater t-shirt. Perhaps the management took the name of the t-shirt literally and wanted to end the cycle of abuse and douchebaggery associated with that particular fashion choice.

But the TMNT would NEVER beat a wife! Well… maybe if she were evil or something, but otherwise NEVER!!!

QUIT PUTTING IMAGES IN MY MIND WITH WORDS LIKE “TAVERN” AND “FANCY”!!!

I have two pet peeves. Traffic tie ups and cAPSLOCK. Living in the Metro DC/NoVa area I can do nothing about the traffic but I will fight cAPSLOCK to the death!

          • Eric Trommater July 3rd, 2014 at 11:30 pm

Oh so it’s ok if your using it for hipster irony? Is that what you are saying? If so my response is “I find your use of hipster irony disturbing.”
Go back to ironically drinking PBR or that stuff you ironically call “tea.”

          • Hirightnow July 4th, 2014 at 12:01 am

Young man, I was mocking hipsters before mocking hipsters was cool.
            (PBR? YAG!)

I sometimes wonder if there really is a Twilight Zone. Geez, some buttholes are tighter than snare drum.

We should resurrect Rod Serling, via cloning, just so we could feel more comfortable…
“Imagine if you will, one Lewis Roberts; a child barely old enough to comprehend, much less care about, social norms. Put said child in a situation involving fools at a restaurant and you have a recipe, if you will, for disaster, served up in…The Twilight Zone.”

      I agree with your rant on disqus however . . . .

      • Hirightnow July 3rd, 2014 at 10:37 pm

        “However”….
        What’s the “however”?

        • Eric Trommater July 3rd, 2014 at 10:48 pm

“however (. . . . noting a pause similar to the one Darth Vader used in the movie Star Wars) I find your use of (put meme here) disturbing,” is perfectly legit internet shorthand.

Bro, do you even troll? Lol, SMH. IKR. Insert Initials Here.

          • Hirightnow July 3rd, 2014 at 11:07 pm

Don’t be so proud of this technological terror Alan has created; the ability to make trollish comments is insignificant when compared to the power of the snark.

My goal in life is to always be overdressed for Wal-Mart.

    • Eric Trommater July 3rd, 2014 at 11:34 pm

My goal is just to be dressed when UPS comes to the door. Some days it works out better than others.

      • mdram July 4th, 2014 at 10:12 am

For me that usually means changing from loin cloth to toga…

Maybe if he had been open carrying a sidearm things would have been different.

  11. Not Sure July 4th, 2014 at 7:40 pm

How about you don’t bring kids to places with dress codes that are essentially designed to keep children out? they can’t legally say your brat isn’t welcome, but they can make it inhospitable.

  12. Not Sure July 4th, 2014 at 7:43 pm

I just went to their website. Nice looking place. When you go to a nice place, hire a damn babysitter. If you insist on bringing anklebiters, go to Denny’s.
