Iowa Congressman Steve King quotes the Bible to substantiate his claim that God decided “when and where each nation would be,” even though, he admits, “you have to look through a few Bibles to find that one.

What? You mean there is more than one inerrant word of God?

    Leviticus 19:

“‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”

Yes but that’s in the actual Bible, not the GOP Bible.

        Or the Shooters Bible.

There is a new supply-side version in the works:

Hehe! I wrote about that once. It’s teeming with crazy-talk.

          • BanditBasheert August 1st, 2014 at 1:01 pm

Much like the bible is – depends on who was writing what and what the agenda was at the time.

          • Anomaly 100 August 1st, 2014 at 1:10 pm

As a Christian, I pretty much focus on the teachings of Jesus.

That’s also known as the Texas GOP platform.

          • mmaynard119 August 1st, 2014 at 6:19 pm

So that’s what Rafael Cruz Sr is saying. I had been trying to figure that out.

    • Foundryman August 1st, 2014 at 12:06 pm

That’s the funny thing about jesus freaks, they interpret and quote from the bible when it suits their agenda, but when it doesn’t, they always ignore it or claim the new testament has over written that….

      • R.J. Carter August 1st, 2014 at 12:10 pm

In the story of Jesus’s forty days fasting in the desert, when Satan came to him three different times, he always came with a scripture in hand to back him up.

      • M D Reese August 1st, 2014 at 12:13 pm

And of course they can prove that the buy bull is true because it says so right in the buy bull…

        • BanditBasheert August 1st, 2014 at 1:00 pm

Fear … they have to have the crutch. There has to be a fallback to life otherwise their lives have no meaning. There has to be a “continuation” because the buy bull people cannot accept that death is the natural conclusion to life.

          • M D Reese August 1st, 2014 at 6:21 pm

True that. They spend this life–the only one they get–worrying about an “afterlife” that doesn’t exist.

          • mmaynard119 August 1st, 2014 at 6:21 pm

            Or living in Paramus.

Now M.D. lets not use trickle down economics with religion or else the right-wingers will be praying for the resurrection of Saint Ronnie of the One Percent.

          • M D Reese August 1st, 2014 at 6:20 pm

Ronnie’s starting to look like a flaming liberal compared to these guys.

      • granpa.usthai August 1st, 2014 at 12:55 pm

        it is written:
‘Jesus spoke and said: Love thy neighbors as thyself’
        again –
        it is written:
‘Jesus spoke and said: Love thy enemies’

        do you love Republicans?

        • BanditBasheert August 1st, 2014 at 12:58 pm

You can love a human being without differentiating between political parties. It’s a little like unconditionally loving your kids and hating some of their behaviors.

          • mea_mark August 1st, 2014 at 1:27 pm

All too often love and disappointment seem to go hand in hand.

          • mmaynard119 August 1st, 2014 at 6:14 pm

You can love a human being by putting them out of their misery, or putting the rest of us out of the misery of having them around, too. Where’s God with his targeted bolts of lightening?

          • Robert Johnston August 1st, 2014 at 7:54 pm

He’s waiting for Vulcan to finish with that rush order.
            But do not fret-or-frown…
He is using the time to perfect His targeting system!

Always surprised one of the Israelites didn’t say, “Foreigners? We weren’t foreigners, we were slaves.”

      • jasperjava August 1st, 2014 at 12:29 pm

I often see that passage translated with the word “strangers”.

      • mmaynard119 August 1st, 2014 at 6:17 pm

Foreigner is still waiting to know what love is.

          Good one. Great song.

Those “few bibles” he’s referring to are just different interpretations of the same writings. If he wants the bible to say a specific thing, why doesn’t he just translate it himself? So did god decide where all those African and Asian countries, the ones that don’t even believe in “his” god, should be too? He really is talented, isn’t he?

    • BanditBasheert August 1st, 2014 at 12:57 pm

That would require reading comprehension skills.

  3. R.J. Carter August 1st, 2014 at 11:52 am

God established coastlines. Man established borders.

    • Jeff Allen August 1st, 2014 at 12:32 pm

a simple, yet eloquent way of putting it.

      • R.J. Carter August 1st, 2014 at 12:40 pm

Thanks. I’m still getting over the shock of it myself.

    • BanditBasheert August 1st, 2014 at 1:02 pm

I disagree politely. The shifting of the tectonic plates established borders. Wait long enough and it’ll do it again.

      • mmaynard119 August 1st, 2014 at 6:39 pm

        God had indigestion.

  4. M D Reese August 1st, 2014 at 12:12 pm

There’s all sorts of things in the buy bull. Fortunately this is not a theocracy so it is not the law of the land.
It’s really time to make these delusional people produce this god or shut up about it.

    • BanditBasheert August 1st, 2014 at 12:56 pm

The only thing the bible bangers are good at is cherry picking, and even then it never makes sense.

    • Budda August 1st, 2014 at 1:30 pm

      “buy bull”…love it!

      • M D Reese August 1st, 2014 at 6:26 pm

It’s the truth. Mark Twain was right–the best cure for christianity is to read the bible.

With the exception of the Oregon and Alaska boundary treaties with Great Britain, America’s borders were established by force of arms.

  11. mmaynard119 August 1st, 2014 at 6:10 pm

You think that God would know how to create country borders that made sense and were in straight lines. God must of had a big sense of humor drawing up the borders of Utah, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Idaho.

The border between Minnesota and Canada has a little northward spike in an otherwise straight line. Did God sneeze and jerk his pen while he was drawing?
