While the South Carolina Governor wrapped up her meeting with the Atlantic Beach Town Council on Tuesday morning, town police quietly escorted a woman from the building. According to the officer who escorted her out of the meeting, the woman works for the South Carolina Democratic Party and her removal was ordered by the governor’s staff.

According to WMBF, Kate Sarna was filming the proceedings when she was told by town police officers to leave the Atlantic Beach Community Center.

Sarna questioned why she was told to leave the building after she was outside, asking if she had been causing a disturbance or creating a problem.

According to Atlantic Beach Police Sgt. John Jackson, her behavior was not a problem but he was just following orders. Those orders came from Nikki Haley’s staff.

WMBF reports:

Sarna said she had been told by SLED that it was OK to attend any meeting in a public place.

“SLED didn’t tell us,” Jackson responded. “We were told by the governor’s people to remove you.”

A spokesperson for the governor said prior to the meeting that the governor never intended to go into executive session and wanted to keep her remarks open to the public.

With the governor not joining the council, Atlantic Beach Mayor Jake Evans had the agenda amended to remove the executive session and allowed the governor to address the council.

When she finished speaking, Haley told the council she was ready for a frank discussion with them but she was met with silence.

Alternatively, Haley could have just removed everyone who did not follow her in lockstep, so I guess this is a positive move on her part by just removing one Democrat. Or maybe, the other Democrats are left in an alleyway after being punched in the throat by Haley’s staff, for freedom.

H/T: My BFF @ComgenKDT with thanks.

Staff operated under direct orders from Haley who interrupted her speech with a stentorian, “Get that [CENSORED] Democrat operative out of my speaking range!” (which was later removed from the video through the power of Windows Movie Maker).

I have trouble with that. If the person asked to leave was recording it, wouldn’t they have it, too?

Just spent a week with my Right-Wing Nut Job relatives. There is no hope. They are all brainwashed. They believe every word they hear on FOX and internet. They are from Baltimore/DC area and they know things we don’t know! The government will be sending us all letters that we have to go to our doctors to get a medical chip inserted in our hand or head that has all our medical records on it. The ACA will bill us $10 a month for this service but they are not telling anyone. You have to ask them about the $10 and they won’t tell you! I just shook my head and said, “No, no, no!” They are convinced it will happen! She works for a medical insurance company and has joined an Evangelical church. It’s very frightening. We have to get these people out of office and shut down FOX News! Mitch McConnel is just a conduit for all these lies…..and paid well for it. Oh, they hate Obama, just because…..

    • mea_mark August 2nd, 2014 at 6:44 pm

Are you serious, are they really that brainwashed?

      • Fossil1944 August 2nd, 2014 at 7:45 pm

mea_mark; I know from experience that some are. Was very close to them until about 6 years ago when the you know what started hitting the fan. One by one they went there own way. Sometimes standing for what you believe comes at a heavy price. What would a person be worth if they weren’t willing to take a stand for what they know in their heart is right?

      • Skip Patterson August 3rd, 2014 at 2:24 pm

I can assure you, from having grown up in a Christian fundamentalist church, and from arguing with right-wingers for almost 50 years now, that they are completely off the reservation and there is no hope to bring them back. An adversary of this nature can only be defeated. There is no other option.

        • anthonyadams August 3rd, 2014 at 4:20 pm

After years of not participating in church – or religion, I decided to give it one more go about two years ago. I attended a congregation that was older with many very nice people, but some a bit “old school.” We had a progressive pastor that some did not like, so they managed to get rid of him and punish him; the guy happened to be an outstanding Bible scholar and the first pastor I ever found who knew the ancient languages and could discuss translations.
Okay….elitist politics and judgment have caused me to leave many churches in my past, but I was playing with the benefit of the doubt….doubt which changed into fact. I knew I had had well over the line of enough when the president of the entire church body (Missouri Synod Lutheran) sent an email to be forwarded to all church members that, according to the Bible, they MUST stand in support of Hobby Lobby’s case and fight the government’s war on Christianity.” I don’t take dictatorial direction on secular issues from any church leader, especially when I see that direction going against the teachings of Jesus and our Constitution’s 1st Amendment.
Being a “recovering Christian” now, I feel I’ve been cured of the malady and doing much better without their guilt and self-ordained doctrines and controls. Buddhism looks better and better by the day.

          • Skip Patterson August 3rd, 2014 at 5:08 pm

Well good on you! Escaping the propaganda and hate that right-wing Christofascist fundamentalism is comprised of is not an easy thing to do. I know I spent twenty years in therapy overcoming the abject fear they had installed in me as a child.

I would encourage you to pursue a study in Buddhism as it has many things to offer not to mention that seated meditation has many health benefits to it even if you don’t accept the teachings of the Buddha.

            Good luck in your endeavors.

Yesterday a local New England right wing wacko radio host received and entertained a call from a listener who maintained the following.
The president is importing Ebola victims into the united states to purposely cause a pandemic. The result would be less people, thus making it easier to “control”, or as she put it “cull the herd”. She went on to explain that the president wanted this pandemic to completely enslave the population into “Government health care”
The host did not dispute her theory.

      • anthonyadams August 3rd, 2014 at 4:10 pm

What was not revealed was that there actually IS a vaccine to make one immune to the disease, but Obama is keeping it secret so that only Democrats/Liberals will receive the vaccine thus completing his big plan to cull the population of Republicans/conservative Tea viruses from our new socialist-communistic-fascist country he will declare himself king of.

      • anthonyadams August 3rd, 2014 at 4:07 pm

That’s to be expected when so many live by what a TV talking head tells them and if they read anything, they can’t get beyond the headline…maybe halfway through the first paragraph (if it has enough adjectives to feed them).

    • Fossil1944 August 2nd, 2014 at 7:14 pm

mrsgunka; Heck I have the same thing happening in my family. Only a couple of them ever bother to call, and invitations to family gatherings are very few and far between. It isn’t just the country that has been divided, I expect that many families are no different then ours. I am the patriarch of the family will be 70 in a few days, I will be very surprised if I receive a card. I did not need to see what is happening to my country in my lifetime, yet here it is. I’m tired, I’m disillusioned.

    • Skip Patterson August 3rd, 2014 at 2:19 pm

It is impossible to reason with right-wing Christofascists. They have been propagandized for so many years, especially those that are raised in a right-wing Christofascist home, which is most of them, that they automatically just turn off when confronted with contradicting facts to their belief system. These are people who trying to reason with them is an exercise in futility. They can only be stopped from destroying America but whatever means necessary. I mean, how high of a price is too high for your freedom.

      • Christine August 3rd, 2014 at 5:35 pm

I teach adult education science. Once I got a new student who was starting a chapter on evolution. She literally froze — stopped reading, stared straight ahead, would not talk to me, and finally left the class never to return.
She was in her forties and completely incapable of taking in new information that contradicted her worldview.

        • Skip Patterson August 3rd, 2014 at 5:41 pm

And you know it really is kind of sad when you see people who have walled themselves off from anything new out of nothing but fear. But over time, and usually a long period of time, this is what right-wing Christofascist propaganda does to people. It literally steals their life from them.

The funny thing is that I wouldn’t mind a microchip with my medical records. It’s a lot easier than using Medic Alert or writing down my medical history every time I go to a new doctor — which is often as I have multiple chronic problems. It isn’t as though my records are that big a secret or that anyone would care about them other than me and my doctors. Silly thing to fuss over, imo.

…and we’ve learned it all from you leftists.

      • Skip Patterson August 4th, 2014 at 3:31 am

Actually that is a false assertion which is what most of right-ring Christofascist ideology is predicated on, so that does not surprise me that liberals created fascism would be the first charge you’d level.

But the fact is that fascism has a long history in America going back to about the mid 20’s when right-wing Christofascist were actually carrying out eugenics trials in three states in America. This was long before anyone had ever heard of Adolf Hitler. Beginning in the 30’s most of the capitalist and industrialist of America were actively engaged in doing business with the Nazi regime. Take Thomas Watson for example, the founder of IBM who actually sold the keypunch machines and tabulators that the Nazis used to keep the trains to the death camps running on time and to have an up to date database of all those who had been murdered. Prescott Bush, who I assume you are aware was the great grandfather of George W. Bush, who actually had to be told after the “Trading with the Enemy’s Act” was passed to stop doing business with the Nazis as the rest of the landed class could not protect him any longer. And the list goes on and on with many more right-wing capitalist at the time who looked at Hitler with an almost reverence for the kind of man that they wanted America to be..

And yes I am aware of the battle cry of the Christofascist that the Nazis were actually socialist, you know that thing you despise so much even though you really don’t know what socialism is about, accept that you have been programed to think of as bad,.along with words such as communist, where your John Bircher roots really stand out, Maoist, statist, and of course the much balloyed tyrant of which you accuse the President of being even though you have not a single fact to prove that with. And you are correct when you say that the word Nazi is taken from the name of the party which was “National Socialist German Workers’ Party,” which of course, due to your lack of understanding of any of these subjects means to you that the Nazis were socialist. Of course, people who employ critical thinking skills when looking at phenomena, such as the above, have to acknowledge that there was nothing socialist about the Nazi party, what they stood for, or any other aspect of socialism. They were in fact a brutal authoritarian right-wing fascist machine. But just for fun lets go over some of the things that the Nazis of yesterday have in common with the American right-wing Christofascist party of today. (Also know as the GOP)

The Nazis divided people against each other and created conflict among the population.

The same is true of Christofascist.

        The Nazis persecuted homosexuals.

        Check for the Christofascist.

The Nazis destroyed the labor unions

        True again for Christofascist.

The Nazis believed in “Family Values,” a tool to further divide people with.

Again right on track for Christofascist.

The Nazis devalued the standard wage for working people by 40-60%

The same is true for Christofascist.

The Nazis operated a virulent form of nationalism where those who did not tow the party line were classified as unpatriotic and a traitor to their country.

        Absolutely true for Christofascist.

And the big daddy of them all, the Nazies claimed that Germany was built as a “Christian Nation, so that a type of theocracy could be established.

I don’t think I need to comment on this one for the Christofascist.

And the list of similarities goes on and on.

So don’t take your usual approach of projecting onto others what you actually are. Because the fact of the matter is that the right-wing Christofascist today in America are no different than the Nazi regime of a bygone era to which the Christofascist want to bring to 21st century America. In fact, according to a study recently completed by Harvard University which concluded that America, since the beginning of the Reagan revolution, is no longer a democracy, but in fact was now being ruled by a fascist oligarchy which we can lay directly at the feet of today’s right-wing Christofascist party.

Note: The so called Tea Party of today is nothing more than just a renaming of the Christofascist evangelicals of yesterday who have to keep changing their name from time to time after people catch on to what they stand for, which has nothing to do with America and the principles of the enlightenment that America was created out of.

Hope this clears up the misunderstanding you had.

  12. TheDudeAbides August 3rd, 2014 at 10:21 pm

Huh, so much for freedom of the press. I love the officer’s excuse of “just following orders”. I’m sure that’s what many Nazi soldiers said when they led people to the gas chamber. See you in court, Haley.
