Rep. Stephen Fincher’s Twitter account declared the Tennessee Republican’s love of “shagging.” Shagging in Britain, means having sex.

According to The Hill, a spokeswoman for the congressman’s office says the since-deleted tweet “had nothing to do” with Fincher — nor was it in reference to the British slang term for sex.

Rep. Stephen Fincher

So does this mean Fincher does not love having sexy time?

The original tweet which was sent out to Fincher’s 6,700 followers read: “God I love this song. And beach music. AND shagging. #pandora,” and contained a link to a music page for the song “I Love Beach Music” by The Embers.

The deleted Tweet:

According to Fincher communications director Elizabeth Lauten, the staffer’s Pandora account was somehow connected to the lawmaker’s Twitter account through a third-party application. “It had nothing to do with him at all,” Lauten said.

She went on to explain that the term “shagging,” is a word used to describe a Southern dance done at the beach.

Last year, Fincher quoted the Bible in a bid to cut food stamps. He didn’t walk that one back, though.

Its legit.. its a prevalent dance in the south.. As much as it pains me to defend a tea party guy…

      The Shag, from the sixties?

      • Anomaly100 August 7th, 2014 at 3:09 pm

        Who can forget the shag?

        • tiredoftea August 7th, 2014 at 5:42 pm

          Mmmmmmm Farah
          I had a shag… be 15 again

This is just dumb. Shagging is a way of dancing to beach music. He even mentions beach music. Seriously, educate yourselves. Teapublicans are dumb as dirt, but this time I can only laugh at who ever wrote this. This needs to be pulled.

    • eaglesfanintn August 7th, 2014 at 6:56 pm

You’re right, it’s a dance. There’s an Alabama song called Shagging on the Boulevard or something close to that.
But, I wonder why they deleted it and walked it back? I’m sure a second tweet could have explained with a link to a youtube video or a wikipedia page about it. That spokesperson and/or his PR person is probably to blame.

      • LoriBelle August 7th, 2014 at 7:34 pm

Maybe he’s doing the type of shagging he shouldn’t be doing?

      • Ole Buck August 8th, 2014 at 2:59 am

He “walked” it back due to fact a bunch of libertards would try to make something out of it. Since we are on this this side of the Atlantic “shagging” means a dance, not what it means in England. If Alan had any integrity he would pull this entire story.

When you come to a liberal site you should be at least display a modicum of respect for that site.

          • Ole Buck August 8th, 2014 at 10:42 pm

I cannot, and will not respect any site or person that willfully lies or distorts the truth. When I come to any site, liberal, conservative, sports, whatever, I will post the truth when I find a dishonest post. You know what Rep. Fincher’s tweet was talking about, yet you tried to make something else out of it. That is dishonest, and disrespectful. Respect is something that has to be earned, and trying to pull crap like this will not earn any respect for you from fair minded people. Maybe a bunch of Kool-Ade drinkers like that kind of thing, but in the real world, it stinks.

Call our readers ‘libertards’ [sic] again and you won’t have that option. This is private property.

We have Conservative readers that don’t act in the manner that you do. And we get along.

          • Ole Buck August 8th, 2014 at 11:28 pm

Is it alright if I call out anybody (conservatives or liberals) when I see them lying? Or is that objectionable?

        • Larry Schmitt August 8th, 2014 at 8:28 am

And of course no one has ever seen or heard of the Austin Powers movie, “The Spy Who Shagged Me,” which means no one on this side of the Atlantic would have any clue as to that meaning of the word.

          • Ole Buck August 8th, 2014 at 10:35 pm

Austin Powers is a fictional character, based in the UK. Anybody who has half a brain knows that term is not used here in the colonies.

          • Larry Schmitt August 9th, 2014 at 4:35 am

But they would be familiar with that use of the word.

          • eaglesfanintn August 10th, 2014 at 7:57 pm

Well, you certainly qualify for that.

FYI — The Shag is South Carolina’s state dance. Since the state insect is the praying mantis, I’d venture a guess the dance has nothing to do with British slang. You could look it up.

    • donschneider August 8th, 2014 at 9:43 am

A Praying Mantis can’t walk ! some dance you south carolinians have adopted…..staggering a bit sideways and falling over like a drunk ! I believe YeeeHa is the proper response (sorry Mr. Colbert)

  5. darbal August 7th, 2014 at 7:41 pm

    shag me baby.

  6. mmaynard119 August 7th, 2014 at 10:23 pm

Given that he is a Tea Party member, this means his development stopped at an early age. What he meant was his love for Shaggy and Scooby Doo.

  7. pmbalele August 8th, 2014 at 1:00 am

I am told Rep. Stephen Fincher is married. Wow, can’t these Repubs and TPs learn from other Repubs that cheating is not worthy it? They should learn from Newt, who cheated on his wife while in the hospital or Governor Sanford who drove all the way to Argentina for a married woman. So all these Repubs and TPs are running for Congress just to have sex in offices! No doubt they defunded VA programs and UI long term, just to make sure they have money left to fool around in their offices. This country is in trouble with TPs
and Repubs. Please don’t vote for them in November.

    • chair jackson August 8th, 2014 at 8:44 am

i don’t see any reference to cheating. he may like shagging his wife. [crazy, i know, but conceivable]

  8. chair jackson August 8th, 2014 at 8:44 am

who cares if he loves shagging? what’s the issue?

  9. donschneider August 8th, 2014 at 9:39 am

It’s funny, chair for brains ! Laugh a little ! It’ll make you feel better.

  10. cwazycajun August 8th, 2014 at 5:06 pm

did he mean shaggin the american people..???? forcefully and without lube???/

  11. Willis Emerson August 8th, 2014 at 8:06 pm

Okay, I’m willing to give Fincher the benefit of the doubt regarding “shagging”..

  12. burqa August 8th, 2014 at 9:12 pm

So the takeaway here is that Fincher doesn’t like sex.

    One wonders if:
    1) there is a Mrs. Fincher,
    2) is she attractive,
    3) can I get an introduction?

Where I’m from, “shagging” is how we dance to beach music. I never heard the other term until that movie came out with whats-his-name.
