Barney’s clothing store, a New York institution, has agreed with New York State’s attorney general’s office to pay $525,000 to settle charges it targeted minorities in its tony Madison Avenue store. It wall also hire an “anti-profiling consultant.”

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s investigators heard from customers and former employees that a pattern of racial profiling began last year when the high-end store tried to crack down on a dramatic spike in shoplifting and credit card fraud“This agreement will correct a number of wrongs,” said Schneiderman, “both by fixing past policies and by monitoring the actions of Barneys and its employees to make sure that past mistakes are not repeated.”

The fine will be made in profit in a couple of hours, they need to ensure changes are made and people need to hold the management accountable if they are not.

Having worked loss prevention at Saks fifth ave. and many other high-end retail stores I know racial profiling goes on in these places. The funny thing is one of the biggest problems came from the Russians who would pull credit card scams all along fifth ave, in the high-end stores for thousands of dollars, but for some of the people that I worked with would only call out black males to be watched. After awhile I stepped up to say something about it, I never suffered any repercussions for speaking out because everyone knew that I was right.

The Russians were highlighted on American Greed on CNBC. They got away with it for a very long time! I love this show, as it highlights white collar crime, as opposed to blue collar crime, which the media highlights every day.

Right, cuz white folks never engage in credit card fraud or thefts, just ask Madoff and Standford. Or is it Sanford?
