Former Congressman Tom DeLay believes this is what God intended.

“We’ve got to rewrite the federal government,” DeLay proclaimed. “Let’s bring Jesus Christ back into our political system and stand for him unashamedly because none of this is going to happen without God … And secondly, demand a revolution for the Constitution … let’s impose that on our political system, let’s bring it back, the way God intended it and the way God wrote it.”

  3. Rusty Shackleford August 15th, 2014 at 7:23 am

I might not mind a little dose of Jesus in politics if we’re gonna be accurate.

You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax. Whose image is this? And whose inscription? Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.

Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

  4. Hirightnow August 15th, 2014 at 7:58 am

If you think that the GOP is fractured now, just you go ahead and put Jesus® into the mix; you’ll have one hundred different candidates with one hundred different brands of Jesus, all swearing that THEIR Jesus© is the only TRUE Savior.
It’d be a bigger hoot than it already is!

    • EnuffBull August 15th, 2014 at 8:43 am

My Jesus® can beat up your Jesus™, and let’s not invite Jesus©2014 to the party.

      • William August 15th, 2014 at 10:04 am

My Jesus® can beat up your Jesus™,
        Oh yeah?
        Well BRING IT!

Republican – Enuff – you know, peace loving WHITE folks with their finger at the ready at all times, would be more like “my jesus can out lie your jesus but NOT ME!!!

    • granpa.usthai August 15th, 2014 at 1:26 pm

no need to bring up the Republican Primary Debates of 2011/2012, Hiri, with that many Republicans trying to out LIE the greedy Bishop, is it any wonder that God’s people went with Obama?

  5. Budda August 15th, 2014 at 8:03 am

The guy is nuts and should be institutionalized.

    • tiredoftea August 15th, 2014 at 12:46 pm

      He was, in Congress.

      • Eric Trommater August 15th, 2014 at 12:59 pm

He was the head nut! He ran that joint . . . into the ground.

“The Hammer”, somehow it all makes sense!

  6. bhil August 15th, 2014 at 8:04 am

Just what is needed a Theocracy! It’s always worked so well!

You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax. Whose image is this? And whose inscription? Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.

And so it goes with church and state.

  7. eddie1247 August 15th, 2014 at 8:08 am

Poor guy, perhaps if he had won the mirror ball trophy on dancing with the stars it might have snapped him back into reality.

  8. Charlie August 15th, 2014 at 8:26 am

Let’s bring integrity and intelligence back to our political system.

  9. liberalMD August 15th, 2014 at 8:37 am

If Jesus Christ were brought into the political system, he would likely clear out the politicians in the same way he cleared out the buyers and sellers in the temple(Matthew 21:12-13). Can you imagine all of the “buyers/sellers” he’d have to run out of Congress?

  10. EnuffBull August 15th, 2014 at 8:41 am

NOPE: Don’t see Jesus Christ’s signature on the Declaration of Independence.

    • R.J. Carter August 15th, 2014 at 9:35 am

If you take a magnifying glass to it, it’s in the lines of John Hancock’s signature. It’s like the business card in “The Santa Clause.”

      • MIAtheistGal August 15th, 2014 at 1:21 pm

I haven’t thought about that movie in years. What a flashback.

  11. I_B_ME August 15th, 2014 at 8:42 am

now we know what the 2 amendment is for.

  12. MIAtheistGal August 15th, 2014 at 9:08 am

I love how he thinks he’s not able to believe in god unless everyone else does too.

What would he like to do with unbelievers?

    • Bunya August 15th, 2014 at 1:49 pm

“What would he like to do with unbelievers?”

He’d probably want to bring back the inquisition. Ah yes! The good old days when the Christians could torture and kill you based on an accusation.

      • MIAtheistGal August 15th, 2014 at 1:56 pm

You know, it still pisses me off that Bush I said he didn’t think atheists should even be citizens. That’s the attitude, sadly.

  13. crc3 August 15th, 2014 at 9:25 am

Separation of church and state? Not according to DeLay. I say let’s keep people like Tom DeLay out of government! Vote them all OUT!!

  14. mea_mark August 15th, 2014 at 9:29 am

Delay wants to go back to a time that never was. I wish him luck with that, as long as he keeps all of it inside his head and leaves us out of it. Perhaps he should try a career in fiction writing.

  15. OldLefty August 15th, 2014 at 9:33 am

    Tom Delay and Jesus Christ???

    Really????

    Hot Tub Tom????

    • granpa.usthai August 15th, 2014 at 1:38 pm

      quite a combo huh?

and the religious crowd doesn’t understand why some of us would just as soon be at an eternal republican roast.

  16. R.J. Carter August 15th, 2014 at 9:34 am

Tom. Tom, Tom, Tom. I’m a Christian, and even I know God didn’t write the Constitution.

    • William August 15th, 2014 at 9:54 am

        WTF are their firearms?
these are the all white originators of the 2nd half of the 2nd amendment,
but the liberal artist forgot to paint in their firearms!

  17. cal smith August 15th, 2014 at 9:38 am

Who led this asshole out of jail.

    • Eric Trommater August 15th, 2014 at 12:56 pm

His conviction was overturned and he was formally acquitted in 2013.

      • granpa.usthai August 15th, 2014 at 1:22 pm

if you want a really good laugh, watch the you tube movie about Pablo Escobar. There’s a clip of what then POTUS Reagan had to say about drug ‘lords’ warranting the US to make new laws allowing US to capture and extradite foreign citizens to the USA for punishment. Keep in mind that at the exact same time, the Reagan Administration (by ‘God’s’ will) was bringing in cocaine by resourcefully using US Military C-130 transports into the USA. Typical ballyhooing of the ‘christian’ Republicans – much like the War in Iraq due to the known fake WMD’s pump up, while using USA WMD’s on the Iraqi people. But, of course, as you indicate, and the courts of America agree – WHITE Republican wealthy men can do NO WRONG.

  18. William August 15th, 2014 at 10:00 am

    You tell ’em Tom.

If Nicholas Cage wants to do another sequel to his “National Treasure”movies, I think we have the storyline.

This time, instead of stealing the Declaration of Independence from the National Archives, he steals the Constitution. Somewhere on the back of the document and visible only when brushed with a solution of 50% lemon juice, and 50% water, you will find the inscription, “with regards, Jesus C”

  21. Suzanne McFly August 15th, 2014 at 10:26 am

I can almost hear God saying “Delay, keep my name out cha’ damn mouth”.

  22. Shades August 15th, 2014 at 10:29 am

So, Mr. Delay, how long have you been having these delu … errr thoughts?

  23. AlfredLehmberg August 15th, 2014 at 10:48 am

Convicted criminal Tom DeLay is known only for his corruption, his criminality, his presupposing ignorance, and for his fervid activity destroying our Constitution. DeLay’s hallmarks are of Treason, Tyranny, and intellectual _degeneracy_. Flush twice.

    • Eric Trommater August 15th, 2014 at 12:53 pm

To be fair DeLay was formally acquitted.

      • Bunya August 15th, 2014 at 1:44 pm

… and he is also rich and white

        • Eric Trommater August 15th, 2014 at 1:54 pm

Means the same thing. See my above comment
.Eric Trommater to vinceNYC • 21 minutes ago

*acquitted. This is America. Rich white people don’t go to jail!

          • Bunya August 16th, 2014 at 4:36 pm

I know. I just wanted to make sure my “white and privileged” point got across.

      • AlfredLehmberg August 15th, 2014 at 3:37 pm

Rofl! …More fair? Being subsequently and unjustly acquitted by fellow cheats and thieves from _proved_ charges is not honoring the spirit of a legitimate acquittal.

  24. pinballsdoll August 15th, 2014 at 12:37 pm

bring him back?? when was he ever involved in our political system…LOL

  25. donschneider August 15th, 2014 at 12:48 pm

screw all of you right wing nut proselytizers calling for a National Misogynistic Theocracy !

  26. voice_reason August 15th, 2014 at 12:49 pm

so the next coming of Tom DeLay will be that of fascist leader of the religious party? What the F**k does he mean by “let’s impose that on our political system, let’s bring it back, the way God intended it and the way God wrote it.” Seems like he’s forgotten all about his ‘Merican history

    • granpa.usthai August 15th, 2014 at 1:08 pm

I guess after 6 years of a REAL AMERICAN being in the White House, WHITE RACIST Republicans are missing the 3rd Reich.

  29. granpa.usthai August 15th, 2014 at 1:04 pm

    Deere WHITE RACIST Republican:
    1. God did NOT write the US Constitution.
    2. Jesus Christ said “woe unto you scribes and HYPOCRITES (WHITE RACIST Republicans)…”, NOT -if you LIE our your WHITE RACIST Republican arse, I’ll be on your side.

    • R.J. Carter August 15th, 2014 at 1:07 pm

Jesus spoke in parentheticals about American politics? o_O

  30. vinceNYC August 15th, 2014 at 1:29 pm

      • vinceNYC August 15th, 2014 at 1:34 pm

Said the ousted house speaker……U r correct on all counts eric

  31. Bunya August 15th, 2014 at 1:53 pm

When did Tom DeLay become all religious and holy? I’m sure Jesus was the farthest thing from his mind when he was running his “alleged” money laundering business.

    • JamesMMartin August 15th, 2014 at 2:05 pm

Happened with Watergate burglar Colson, too. Interestingly, Colson started a prison ministry, but the statistics show that felons with religion are far more recidivist than non-believers.

  32. JamesMMartin August 15th, 2014 at 2:04 pm

Oh, yeah, Jesus would really approve of stabbing two Indian tribes in the back in a pay to play deal (a.k.a. influence peddling) involving setting the two tribes at each other’s throats so you can jack up the ante, all lubricated by the late great convicted felon, Jack (“Casino Jack”) Abramoff. Putting Jesus Christ back in government is a joke since the old boy was never part of government. DeLay is nothing but a shill for the Dominionist evangelicals, and I can promise Tom that if there is ever a Rapture, he will most definitely NOT see St. Peter at the Pearly Gates.

  33. pmbalele August 15th, 2014 at 2:44 pm

I think Tom DeLay is crazy to Bring Jesus
Christ Back to Our Political System. Jesus was used by KKKs, Apartheid in South
Africa and now with TPs to discriminate against Blacks and women. With their small jesus, these groups did not
want Blacks and women have equal rights. That is why these groups are still
fighting to ensure women don’t have control of their bodies. In fact that is what we still have problems in
south states. Do you also remember what Pat Robertson did before the 2012
election? Robertson with his parishners went on retreat to pray to their small jesus
to ensure President Obama was not re-elected because of his color. Robertson
wanted Romney elected because KKK and TPs jesus wanted only Whites in the WH. Please don’t bring in the real Jesus into
politics. We have enough problems with false
    jesuses.

    • Elliot J. Stamler August 15th, 2014 at 4:10 pm

Jesus of Nazareth was not a Republican and while I myself am not a Christian from what I know of what RABBI Jesus preached I hardly think he would find Tom DeLay a good person much less one of his disciples.

      • pmbalele August 15th, 2014 at 6:10 pm

Tom DeLay, like Pat Robertson, is a misguided soul. Let’s pray for him to get out that mess.

  34. cwazycajun August 15th, 2014 at 3:05 pm

sounds like the bug man the hammer that belongs in tha slammer took in way to much pesticides when he was an exterminator…he doesnt even talk a good game..thanks to the CON servative courts of texass he’s runnin free like a roach under your sink

  35. Ol Blue August 15th, 2014 at 3:22 pm

If Jesus came back he would kick Tom DeLay in the balls.

  36. Orland724 August 15th, 2014 at 3:23 pm

It’s because of idiots like him that people are leaving religion.

    • Roy Blankenship August 15th, 2014 at 5:53 pm

Actually, it is to their benefit.

  37. Elliot J. Stamler August 15th, 2014 at 4:08 pm

Nothing new–he’s been saying this for years. In Congress he sought to end the Supreme Court’s appellate jurisdiction over many constitutional issues including church-state ones. It is nothing surprising. He is a political fascist like Mussolini and Hitler and also a religious fanatic like Falwell, Scarborough, Jeffress, Mohler, Barton and the rest of them. Elect a Republican president in 2016 and DeLay will be pardoned and back in some kind of public office.

  38. Shlarg August 15th, 2014 at 6:27 pm

Nobody’s keeping Jesus Christ out of U.S. government. He can run for any office he wants as long as he’s a qualified U.S. citizen. He certainly should be old enough. Anybody see him around ? Let’s ask him if he wants to run.

  39. Dawn August 15th, 2014 at 7:54 pm

We’d have to dig him up first.

  40. mcalleyboy August 15th, 2014 at 9:44 pm

I believe strongly believe in separation of church and state, this includes schools. Church has it’s own house for those that want to attend.

  41. cecilia August 15th, 2014 at 10:00 pm

    should delay be in jail??

    • Morgan Sheridan August 17th, 2014 at 12:52 am

Oh he should, but some appeals court in TX overturned his conviction. #LeSigh

      • cecilia August 17th, 2014 at 9:58 am

yes, I know…but I still visualize him in stripes 🙂

  42. SkeeterVT August 16th, 2014 at 11:53 pm

Tom Delay is an avowed theocrat who has no respect whatsoever for the constitutional separation of religion and government:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibit the free exercise thereof . . .” — First Amendment

“No religious test shall ever be used as a qualification for any [public] office or trust under the United States. ‘ — Article VI, Section 2

What part of the constitutional separation of religion and government does Tom DeLay not understand? He is openly clamoring for a Christian theocracy in this country. Does DeLay really think that Americans of Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and other non-Christian faiths — who number in the tens of millions — will tolerate that?

    • Morgan Sheridan August 17th, 2014 at 12:54 am

Seriously… and if you want a nifty addition that further shows DeLay’s theocratic character, listen to Bill Moyers’ podcast “Capitol Crimes.” He’s the most miserable kind of shyster there is.

    • Margie Bateman Osgood August 31st, 2014 at 12:51 am

Not to mention DeLay thinks God wrote the constitution??? I almost fell off my chair when I read that above……..

  43. WILLDYE4U August 17th, 2014 at 2:32 pm

This is why we must stand up and declare
our Freedom FROM Religion! This is when
things start to get SCARY! He is obviously
saying that Christianity is THE Religion.
Is it just me or isn’t that what ISIS is saying
    over there in IRAQ??
Now you could try to make that comparison
to a Christian & their response would be something
    like, “yea, but We’re RIGHT!”
This is why religion is so very DANGEROUS! It
could very well destroy us all. They don’t fear
death, they welcome it, look forward to it, believe
it’s ‘a better place’. Some day somebody will get
ahold of a ‘nuke’ and when that happens, well,
it’s not gonna be a happy ending for ANY of us…..

    @WILLDYE4U
