She ‘d been taking care of the Austin, Texas family for a few months, but grew frustrated with the behavior of the children, and so she did what any reasonable person would have done: set the house on fire.

Martha Dreher, 57, was caught on surveillance camera entering the Texas home of the children she watched, leaving twenty minutes later with flames beginning to emerge from the girls’ bedrooms. Dreher denies starting the fire.

Dreher told investigators that she was tired of dealing with the girls and wanted to quit. She had told their father that his oldest daughter was “very disrespectful.”

Dreher plead “not guilty” to arson.[su_sky_ad]

That is one way to quit a job, I suppose. Wouldn’t it be easier to just leave and never come back?

She didn’t want to quit, she wanted to be “fired” (steals RJ’s quip).

Rumor has it that she didn’t quit.

    She was (wait for it)…

    Fired.

Dreher reminds me of some teachers I worked with—they chose teaching as a profession, but they appeared to hate kids because some of them were as mean as snakes to their students. There are some professions where a lot of patience is a necessary part of the job and teaching and being a childcare provider are two of them.

Haha, I knew a guy in a Catholic grade school where I attended who had really thick hair and one nun would regularly pull him around by his hair, even if he just got answers wrong (seriosuly, some of those nuns had issues.). One day, he came in totally head shaven; she summarily yanked him around by his ears.

“She had told their father that his oldest daughter was “very disrespectful.” Which, I suppose, is why the parents were gone so much.
