At a book signing event in Florida on Saturday, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) was approached by a group of Dreamers over his vote against Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA.

“A couple weeks ago you voted for defunding DACA,” one Dreamer asked Ryan while he was signing his book “The Way Forward.”

[su_center_ad]”It would put me and my sister up for deportation. We just had a question — do you want to deport me and my sister?”

Ryan ignored the question and told them to “read the position in the book.” The activists were escorted/deported away from the congressman.

Ray Jose, an organizer with immigrant youth organization United We Dream, then confronted Ryan, and he was deported out of the book store by a security guard.

What a coward, He can’t stand up to what he claim to believe. They asked a question and desired an answer. Who wants to buy his book!!

Way to stand up for what I would assume he believes in, since he voted against DACA. I honestly don’t think these guys have morals or values or even beliefs at all. They just do what they’re told. Re-election is more important.

It’s not so easy having a position to deny help to innocent youngsters a path to a good future when they are facing you. Way to prove your Presidential chops there, Paulie boy by having the minimum wage rent a cops to show them the door!

His anti-poverty plans are a scam as well. Rolling most ‘safety net’ programs into ‘block grants’ gives states cart blanch to pass it along as they see fit. AND just as important, block grants can be CUT as a whole the next time Republicans are looking for a cut to offset another tax cut for the rich.

While I think Paul Ryan is a scumbag, I do have to wonder if this could be in line with being non-political in nature.
What I mean is, at a book signing, they usually don’t have time to debate policies while there’s a line of people waiting for a signature, handshake and maybe a brown-nosing comment on the way out.

I could be wrong and feel free to correct me, but while it worked to his advantage in this situation, it may also be the normal MO for a book signing.

Given that he doesn’t do open and free citizen events in his district, there are no other ways to talk with him. He’s a representative of the people in Congress and, like his buddies who ran from Dreamers last week, he showed no grace as they asked legitimate questions of his policy to deport them.

I can definitely agree with that.
Trust me, I wasn’t trying to supply a legit excuse for the snake-oil salesman.

I’ve never been to a book signing, so I have no idea if that’s an uncommon practice or not… regardless of the race or citizenry standing of the people being escorted out.

I fully suspect it would be a similar situation no matter where a DREAMer tried to confront him.

It is uncommon to confront a pol at a book signing, but it is an effective tactic to draw attention to an issue. And, I agree that it would be the same outcome no matter where they met.

may be getting a bit racially biased myself, being that I’m purt near white; but every time I see a white republican smiling, the very first lingering thoughts that come to mind are:
either they just soiled themselves or they’re in the process of doing so. Sorry, but I can’t help it, the first audio thought is from the little white boy in the senate – they’re just like US.

Can’t do it to their faces because he is a substandard human.
Just like the ice bucket challenge….he did it….but failed to say on the video that he voted to cut funding for ALS research. I wish a person with ALS would ask him about that.

“Ryan ignored the question and told them to โ€œread the position in the book.โ€ The activists were escorted/deported away from the congressman.”

the Dreamer was over hear while being deported, to say>>> I have read your position in the book and that’s why i was asking for the clarification of your position which is not clear.
