7-Year-Old Boy Shot In The Chest While Target Shooting
Two days after being injured while target shooting, a 7-year-old boy remains in a Sacramento, California hospital. The boy’s condition wasn’t disclosed.
The unidentified boy was shooting a single-shot .22-caliber bolt-action youth rifle on Saturday under his father’s supervision at a shooting range on their property in Georgetown, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
[su_center_ad]NBC reports, “Another man was also practicing with a larger-caliber rifle. The sheriff’s office said that when the boy grabbed his chest and complained of pain, his father took him to the local fire station, where he was flown by helicopter to the Sacramento hospital.”
Last week, a 9-year-old girl accidentally killed a shooting instructor while firing an Uzi at a gun range in Arizona. The sheriff’s office stressed that no one at the scene saw any inappropriate behavior or ricochets with the 7-year-old’s shooting.
If there was nothing “wrong” in this scenario, then why is a little boy in the hospital?
According to KCRA 3, Although no one noticed any ricochets and the guns were always pointed down-range, the 7-year-old at one point grabbed his chest and complained of pain, deputies said.
The boy’s father checked the son and noticed the child’s T-shirt had a small hole in it, where he was bleeding from his chest.
A preliminary investigation shows pieces of a bullet did indeed ricochet, hitting the child, investigators said.
The boy’s condition is unknown at this time.
