Blacks, says Rafael Cruz, “need to be educated” about Democrats so they’ll vote Republican. “The average black does not’ understand that the minimum wage is bad, believes the Texas senator’s father. Cruz was speaking to the Williamson County, Texas Republican Club.

[su_center_ad]

During the speech, Cruz spoke at length about a recent conversation he said he had with a black pastor in Bakersfield, California.

“I said, as a matter of fact, ‘Did you know that Civil Rights legislation was passed by Republicans? It was passed by a Republican Senate under the threat of a filibuster by the Democrats,’” Cruz said. “‘Oh, I didn’t know that.’ And then I said, ‘Did you know that every member of the Ku Klux Klan were Democrats from the South?’ ‘Oh I didn’t know that.’ You know, they need to be educated.”…

“I am going to try to encourage everybody I can to buy a book written by a black journalist. His name is Jason Riley. He wrote a book called Please Stop Helping Us, talking about how all the handouts to blacks have kept blacks in the poorhouse. And I’ll tell you what, I am going to make it my task to buy 15 to 20 copies of that book and hand it out to some black leaders to read.”

“Jason Riley said in an interview, Did you know before we had minimum wage laws black unemployment and white unemployment were the same? If we increase the minimum wage, black unemployment will skyrocket. See, he understands it, but the average black does not.”[su_sky_ad]

The black community has been waiting for him! No one else has had their interests in mind, ever! Well, at least since before the Civil War!

    • juicyfruityyy September 2nd, 2014 at 10:33 pm

I’ve always thought that Bakersfield, was a Conservative area. I don’t know how many blacks, will be reaching out to him.

  2. R J September 2nd, 2014 at 6:56 pm

So part of the right wing outreach to the black community is to insult the intelligence of the black community by reciting old right wing talking points that they have be using since the 90’s. The problem for the right wing is that the black community knows all to well what the right wing is all about, white nationalism, the tea party is a white power movement.

Bwhahahaha! PMSL! He needs to tally up the votes by party demographics. This Cruz and his son are southern Republicans (aka as southern democrats from 60 years ago).

  4. Linda1961 September 2nd, 2014 at 6:57 pm

If Ted’s dad keeps taking, he will help the Democrats keep the Senate, and maybe gain seats in the House.

And while Raffy is right about Democrats and Republicans during the Civil War, Reconstruction and the 1960s, he fails to mention that it was a Democratic president who desegregated the Armed Forces, another Democratic president who pushed the Civil Rights legislation through Congress, and that as a result, the Southern Democrats who threatened a filibuster joined the Republican Party.

    • Dwendt44 September 2nd, 2014 at 9:04 pm

The northern groups of the KKK were largely Republican. In Indiana, you couldn’t join the Klan unless you were Republican.
Those ‘Democrats’ in the south were Dixiecrats more than they were Democrats.

    What a racist P.o.S.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Vile right-wing scum won’t be happy until slavery comes back.

    • juicyfruityyy September 2nd, 2014 at 10:36 pm

Slavery will not return. We are just going to have to ignore them until we can get them out of Congress. One Tea-bag at a time.

Today’s 95% white Tea Klan vote exclusively for the 89% white Republiklans since 1965’s Civil Rights Voting Act. Wackadoodle Cruz Sr guarantees Raphael Ted Jr’s implosion.

  11. mea_mark September 2nd, 2014 at 8:22 pm

Figures he would speak at the Williamson County, Texas Republican Club. lots of wealthy white racist in that county that think they are above the law. Probably a good place to do some serious grifting of the white racists with more dollars than sense.

  12. Kick Frenzy September 2nd, 2014 at 8:38 pm

The distinction, Mr. Cruz, is that it was always Conservatives behind the racist sentiments.
Whether it was Democrats or Republicans, the common theme is conservatism is what opposed civil rights and supported the KKK.

If the Republican party was the same now as it was then, you wouldn’t be in it.

    • mea_mark September 2nd, 2014 at 9:22 pm

He isn’t pandering to the educated and trying to grift them, it is the uneducated, born into rich family that are racist that he is trying to grift off of. They will believe the BS because they want to and will give give away their inherited wealth to someone who they think will do the dirty work that they don’t want to be soiled with. Conservatism and Liberalism mean nothing, it is the buzz words, Democrat and Republican that count. Demonizing of one side and exuberant jubilation for the other is the name of the game when it comes to grifting.

      • Kick Frenzy September 2nd, 2014 at 10:20 pm

I have to disagree on the terms… I think “conservative” and “liberal” are what matter.
I’m a Democrat because they’re liberals, not the other way around.

And to be fair, we (general “we”) do our fair share of demonizing and praising.
(The difference is, we use facts. 😉 )

But, you’re right… they’re pandering to the “act first, think later” crowd.

        • mea_mark September 3rd, 2014 at 9:30 am

I didn’t word it well last night, was tired. I think it makes more sense now.

          • Kick Frenzy September 3rd, 2014 at 2:54 pm

I think I read it a little wrong too.
While I think “conservative” and “liberal” are what matter, it seems I kinda ignored where the point was that for a grifter, the point is misdirection, as in “us vs them… RAWR!”

            Anyway… um… ROCK ON! 😀

          • mea_mark September 3rd, 2014 at 3:36 pm

I knew last night when I wrote it, it wasn’t coming out right, I was just to tired and went to bed. It was easy to misread I just couldn’t make it work.

    • Kick Frenzy September 2nd, 2014 at 10:22 pm

(YAY ME! Featured comment!! I was just thinking about that, like earlier today… how cool it would be to get that spot. m/ )

    • SkeeterVT September 3rd, 2014 at 10:33 pm

Indeed, The GOP is no longer the party of Jacob Javits, Nelson Rockefeller, Henry Cabot Lodge, Dwight Eisenhower — or even, I dare say, of Richard Nixon , Barry Goldwater or Ronald Reagan. None of the aforementioned would survive in today’s Republican Party.

In fact, a case can be made that the Republican Party is rapidly degenerating into a lily-white, predominantly male, far-right extremist fringe party.

      • Kick Frenzy September 3rd, 2014 at 11:11 pm

They do seem to be in a state of withering.
        For them, winter is coming.

(No wonder why they don’t believe in global warming! *gigglesnort*)

  13. Dwendt44 September 2nd, 2014 at 9:06 pm

Why bother with facts. Cruz gets much of history wrong like most of what he spouts. The Civil Rights laws were all signed by Democratic Presidents and with the votes of many Democrats in Congress. It wouldn’t have passed if only Republicans voted for it.

    • SkeeterVT September 3rd, 2014 at 10:38 pm

Actually, the Democrats in the Senate in the 1960s were bitterly divided between Northern liberals and Southern conservatives. Were it not for the support of Senate Republicans — who back then were dominated by Northeastern liberals and Midwestern moderates — the civil rights bill would have died in the Senate, killed by a Southern filibuster.

  14. labman57 September 2nd, 2014 at 10:12 pm

The average racist asshole couldn’t find his/her conscience with both hands and a brain scan.

  15. RioBravoHombre September 2nd, 2014 at 10:18 pm

I think his racism is adorable. What he fails to understand is that my family members who are KKK members view him, and all Cubans, with exactly the same disdain and hatred that they apply to blacks.

  16. juicyfruityyy September 2nd, 2014 at 10:25 pm

Crucifer, and his not so blind racism. Is why Texas, should not be doing the history books. Our history is full of so many lies and distortions of the truth. Another reason why, they don’t want the public to be educated. Knowledge is power not money.

    • Judgeforyourself37 September 3rd, 2014 at 5:30 pm

Sad but true, my grand daughters were taught, in school, that the Civil War was to be called the “war of northern aggression.” My daughter had a lot of re education to do, along with going to college, herself. She told the girls to write on tests what the teachers wanted to see, but she told them the facts, including sex ed, which was eschewed in southern schools.
If the girls disagreed with the teachers, they received an F. This is why we are seeing such nonsense coming out of the south.

Shouldn’t Daddy Cruz’s show’s name be “An Hour Of White Power”?

Yep, hour of White Power for Decades.

“..talking about how all the handouts to blacks have kept blacks in the poorhouse…”

Heh….go into any poor black neighborhood in any inner city and ask them how they like all the free stuff and handouts they’re getting.

  21. atunionbob September 3rd, 2014 at 3:37 pm

They were Dixiecrat NOT Democrats, They all went to the Republican party when civil rights were passed. Yet He failed to mention that and the fact that the entire civil rights bill was offered by LBJ who was a Democrat. More and more lies from the Cruz family once again.

  22. Donstone September 3rd, 2014 at 3:54 pm

The minimum wage has never created even one job. How come no one has anything to say about Jason Riley’s book?

    • OldLefty September 3rd, 2014 at 4:16 pm

From where do you get that?

[How come no one has anything to say about Jason Riley’s book?]

      Why should they?

He’s another black guy who makes a living telling conservative white guys how much better off black people would be if only they were as smart as the conservative white guys and voted Republican.

  23. SkeeterVT September 3rd, 2014 at 10:07 pm

Rafael Cruz is guilty of historical revisionism when he says that “a Republican Senate” passed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

The Senate, then as now, was controlled by the Democrats. But the Democrats were bitterly divided between Northern liberals and Southern conservatives over the bill. It did take the support of Senate Republicans — who back then were dominated by Midwestern moderates and Northeastern liberals — to break a Southern filibuster and get the bill passed.

But make no mistake: the Republicans were the minority party in the Senate back then.
As for his comment about African-Americans “needing to be educated” about Democrats so that they’ll vote Republican, it is Mr. Cruz who needs to be educated — Educated about Richard Nixon’s infamous “Southern Strategy” in 1968 of openly appealing to conservative white Southerners who were bitterly opposed to the civil rights movement (A strategy that essentially failed, thwarted by the third-party candidacy of the arch-segregationist Alabama Governor George Wallace, who swept the South and nearly cost Nixon the election).

Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” was, for many African-Americans, a further act of betrayal by the Party of Lincoln, four years after nominating Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater for president. Goldwater voted AGAINST the Civil Rights Act — and there was no way Goldwater would gain the support of blacks for his opposition to the bill.

Goldwater and Nixon set the stage for the wholesale rejection of the GOP by African-Americans angered by what they saw was a massive betrayal. Now the party has become almost lily-white, as the party moved ever farther to the right, further alienating blacks and now turning Latinos — the fast-growing segment of the U.S. population — against them.

No, Senor Cruz, it is YOU who needs to be educated about the relationship between blacks and the Republican Party!
