[su_right_ad]It’s bad enough that they’re illiterate about Islam. But that’s understandable. More troubling is their lack of understanding of basic English.

The whole kerfuffle started Monday when Rep. John Bennett shared a link on his Facebook to “Sharia Unveiled,” along with a personal note straight out of a fifth-grade book report:

(For the record: “Islam” is a noun; “Muslim” may be used as a noun or an adjective; the adage is “one and the same.”)

The Council on American Islamic Relations protested Bennett’s comments, but Dave Weston, Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman backed had Bennett’s back:

“It seems as if their attack on his comments is disingenuous at best,” Weston said. “Here’s why. If we as Americans were ruled by Islam, then Christians and Jews like you and I could only keep practicing our faith if we paid a protection tax. But if you’re Christian or Jewish and don’t immediately convert to Islam, they imminently decapitate you. This is proven by ongoing observation around the world today.”

“If they’re legitimate in wanting to come to the table and have an honest discourse, they can prove that by acknowledging the Jewish Holocaust happened…”

Perhaps before you criticize another religion and culture it would be wise to understand your own.[su_csky_ad]

Their teachers taught them to think the way they do. They probably graduated with high honors.

Now for a little Judeo-Christian moment of slaughter…

“Now the glory of the God of Israel went up from above the cherubim, where it had been, and moved to the threshold of the temple. Then the LORD called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side 4 and said to him, “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lamentover all the detestable things that are done in it.” 5 As I listened, he said to the others, “Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity or compassion. 6 Slaughter old men, young men and maidens, women and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.”

    Ezekial 9: 3-6

Early christians had much the same habit as the Muslims are accused of. During the Dark Ages, it was ‘convert or die’ for much of Europe.
The ‘Holy Roman Empire’ didn’t take prisoners.

Lies, compounded by ignorance. In general, Muslims don’t kill Christians or Jews if they don’t convert. In fact, Muslims, Jews, and Christians have lived peacefully in the same countries for centuries. The only prohibition Muslim-majority governments place on Christians and Jews who live in them today is that they cannot proselytize. There are Christian churches and Jewish synagogues in Iran today. The Iranian Constitution protects Christians and Jews from being discriminated against. There are also Jewish and Christian politicians in the Iranian government. It’s embarrassing to me to see so many politicians talk about things they don’t know/understand and so many of their supporters, who also don’t know what they’re talking about themselves, defending them. I went to the web site in OK where this article was posted the other day, and I’ve never witnessed so much blind devotion, ignorance, and hate. These folks don’t want to be exposed to the truth. There were some posting facts on the site, but Bennett and Weston’s supporters were/are immune to them. Never mind that Bennett and Weston are peddling hate against some of their own citizens who are as American as they are, their mission was accomplished because the “all Muslims are to be feared” crowd swarmed the web site and were proudly displaying their intolerance and hatred.

Their supporters/followers are just like them. They don’t believe in facts. They don’t want to hear the truth.

Digging a little deeper I found this from state rep. Bennett in reply to a complaint from Adam Soltani of the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Bennett, 40, said he has no intention of apologizing, adding he was referring to Muslims who hold extreme views.

Bennett, who served in the Marines for 21 years, said he was trying to inform and educate Americans as to what is really going on. He said he has been in the Middle East a few times and is aware of the atrocities inflicted by extremists in the name of religion.

“I am not against all Arabs or people who follow the religion of Islam,” he said. “The religion has been changed. It used to be peaceful.”

      • Bunya September 6th, 2014 at 6:43 pm

Yeah well, Christianity used to be a peaceful religion, too – waaaaaay back in the day, before the 30-years war, the Crusades, the inquisition, etc. They’ve since toned it down a bit. Now they just blow up buildings, terrorize women in crisis, trash gays and kill doctors.

I wonder what he thinks of Catholics or Jews??

    • Larry Schmitt September 7th, 2014 at 10:40 am

You might wonder, but do you really care? This mook can barely think.

  9. Markle September 6th, 2014 at 10:22 pm

“One and the same” is an idiom. An adage is a well-known saying that expresses a common or general truth or observation. “Teabaggers and idiots: they’re all one and the same” could become an adage.

Especially be wary of those who claim to be “Christian Americans.”
