A 5-year-old Texas boy had to be airlifted to a hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to his chin. He and his 11-year-old brother were playing near their home in Harris County with a shotgun.

A neighbor known as Mr. Fred watched as his 11-year-old neighbor drove up to his house and jumped out of the car in a panic, according to KHOU. “He said his brother shot himself,” Fred said.

[su_center_ad]According to the 11-year-old, the brothers were hunting and when he laid the gun down, his brother apparently went back for it. “He said he just turned around and heard the shot,” Fred said.

Fred and his wife called 911.

“He’s a smart little kid, playful, joyful, just to see that, it was horrible,” another neighbor said.

One neighbor put pressure on the wound the child sustained in his chin.

Fred said his brother got the boy in the back seat.

“It was just an accident, an accident that should have never happened,” a neighbor said.

Neighbors said the boys’ father was at work and their mother had gone to the store, but it wasn’t clear as to why the boys had access to a firearm or to the car that the 11-year-old drove to the neighbor’s house.

Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies are still investigating exactly what happened. The boy was listed in critical but stable condition on Friday night.

Until the parents are charged with reckless endangerment for events like this they will continue to occur. They continue to leave guns available w/o trigger locks believing they need to defend themselves at a moments notice. This is our reality.

    • whatthe46 September 7th, 2014 at 12:42 am

its just TEXAS, right? poor baby. maybe he wil be the one that does not continue the cycle of willful ignorance w/in the family.

People who let their children have access to guns and leave them unsupervised……what can be said of such people?

            “Dumbfuck rednecks.”
Rednecks is a derogatory racist term epically when preceded by a expletive.
            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redneck

          • whatthe46 September 7th, 2014 at 4:55 am

is calling someone white a fuckin’ dumb ass bastard, suggestive that i’m a racist? because i call everyone everyone, quite frankly dumb ass bastards. black, white, red, yellow, etc.

          • Ben September 7th, 2014 at 5:11 am

            “Dumbfuck rednecks”

Let’s stick to the example above. Now try replacing rednecks with another derogatory racist term.

            “Dumbfuck _________”

I bet you think redneck, white trash, cracker, and hillbilly are all okay, but can you think of a derogatory racist term that would be okay to say that isn’t derogatory towards whites?

          • whatthe46 September 7th, 2014 at 5:35 am

“I’m sure you know more derogatory racist term towards whites, but please keep those to yourself” you assume too much. In common usage “White trash” overlaps in meaning with cracker (regarding Georgia and Florida), hillbilly (regarding Appalachia), Okie (regarding Oklahoma origins), and redneck. The main difference is that “redneck,” “cracker”, “Okie”, and “hillbilly” emphasize that a person is poor and uneducated and comes from the backwoods with little awareness of the modern world, while “White trash” emphasizes the person’s moral failings.

          • whatthe46 September 7th, 2014 at 5:40 am

furthermore, the “n” word came from whites right? (poor) white trash, (and who could blame them) derived from slaves about poor whites, and low and behold, whites adopted that term and added even more. i’m gonna say it. and you can get mad. white people (SOME) don’t like, and hate just about everyone, PERIOD!

          • Ben September 7th, 2014 at 6:02 am

The word originated as a neutral term referring to black people,
as a variation of the Spanish/Portuguese noun negro, a descendant of the
            Latin adjective niger (“color black”).

you should stop fishing really. “Dumbfuck asswipes.” what you’re wanting you won’t get. you can replace that with whatever you want. there are dumbfucks everwhere. PERIOD. if (if, if was a fifth…LOL.) explain this, please. why is it that “white” people (producers, exec. producers… etc.) are so comfortable with using the terms they use, in variety, on national t.v. describing “white” people? or those who are in fact the “stars” of said t.v. programs, that will proudly take the money being called those “racist” names. have you ever complained? if not, why not? OPRAH has her own network, how many shows are called the “n” show or the “ghetto” show? NOT ONE. you want me to fill in “a” _____. fill in the many blanks i’ve posed to you.

      • Ben September 7th, 2014 at 1:33 am

        racist

        • whatthe46 September 7th, 2014 at 1:56 am

hold up. now, there’s several t.v. series that are “reality shows” and they are produced by white people. the show titles include “red neck and trailer trash, i.e., honey boo boo.” do you watch those programs? if you don’t like it, why don’t you complain?

          • Ben September 7th, 2014 at 3:25 am

These “reality shows” that you watch are perpetuating a racist stereotype. I don’t watch any racist TV shows so I don’t know if there are any with the “n” word in the title. There is plenty of popular rap music that perpetuates the idea that black people are dangerous hard gangsters. I don’t look at that and say, well black people made that music so all black people must be “n”. This is what you are doing to whites.

          • whatthe46 September 7th, 2014 at 3:43 am

excuse me. i never said i watched them. i’m pointing out the fact that they exist. and the “n” word shows Don’t exist PERIOD!
“There is plenty of popular rap music that perpetuates the idea that black people are dangerous hard gangsters.” listen to it and educate yourself on its meaning. educate yourself on why they feel the way they do. its premise is based on what’s going on in life everyday with black males, i.e., martin, brown, the cigg man., etc. (especially in their lives) hell, country folk sing songs about incest, brutality, spousel abuse, that’s popular as well right?

          • Ben September 7th, 2014 at 3:49 am

Ratatat exposed me to this gem by Biggie Smalls.
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-gvIeNWAPo

I don’t think all black people are reflected by the lyrics in this song.

          • whatthe46 September 7th, 2014 at 4:51 am

“The “n” word is still racist even though some black people say it and it’s in popular culture.” (NEVER THE SAME) “I don’t think all black people are reflected by the lyrics in this song” (white people aren’t reflcted by the actions of those (whites) that practice beastiality…, etc.,) just like all white people lives aren’t reflected by incest and murder of an entire family. i have never heard of the song. reading the lyrics and it suggestive as i’ve stated, about what his life may have been growing up. his hardships. put into song. people of color (black in particular) have been called the “n” word for centuries, some (black people/of color) feel they own it and they use it in a different manner. i don’t use it, my sons weren’t allowed to use it either. i wasn’t, neither were my sons, raised to live a life like “biggie.” althought it’s certaintly not to suggest i’ve never seen/heard of his strife.

    • MIAtheistGal September 7th, 2014 at 8:37 am

I say they should be prosecuted for negligence, but that rarely happens in these cases.

    • Tammy Minton Haley September 7th, 2014 at 10:31 am

ideally, there would be gun confiscation and incarceration for negligence…

in a sane and just world, this would never happen…a home with small children should be regulated more strictly–perhaps, gun owners who have custodial responsibilities of minors must purchase gun safes, or trigger locks, or insurance at least…

but, no…that makes too much sense…

      • Ben September 7th, 2014 at 4:32 pm

“a home with small children should be regulated more strictly”

Regulated by whom? I agree that the parents should be regulating their home better, but it sounds a little Orwellian if you going to have the government jackboot thugs in your house just because you have children. Also that would be very expensive.

If you give people freedom, some people will make mistakes with that freedom.

        • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 5:44 pm

          “that would be very expensive”

          oh…really…?

how much is a child’s life worth?

          • Ben September 8th, 2014 at 9:44 pm

Is a child’s life worth an infinite amount? Should we give up all our freedom and wealth so we can make sure the least number of children die?

          • Tammy Minton Haley September 9th, 2014 at 5:07 pm

            yeah, i don’t buy into your “it’s too expensive” bs…there’s p-l-e-n-t-y of money–there simply isn’t enough give-a-shit…period

          • Ben September 9th, 2014 at 8:44 pm

            “there’s p-l-e-n-t-y of money”

We are running a huge defecate and we are in lots of debt. So you are very wrong about that point.

Anyways money isn’t the main concern. Losing your right from an unreasonable search and seizure is the main issue.

          • mea_mark September 9th, 2014 at 9:16 pm

If we don’t want to be so far in debt we should raise taxes on the very rich and make them pay their fair share like they did 40 plus years ago. There is plenty of money, the very rich are just sitting on it is the problem. Time to put the money back in circulation.

          • Ben September 9th, 2014 at 9:38 pm

How about the federal government stops interfering in foreign and domestic affairs and just builds the roads, enforces contracts (including the constitution) and secure the nation from invasion. That would put us in such a huge surplus that we could pay off our debts and eventually the government wouldn’t need to steal as much of our money from us.

          • mea_mark September 9th, 2014 at 9:44 pm

I see you have a very limited understanding of government, what it does and how it functions. You should take a class on government and learn a little bit more on what its role really is.

          • Ben September 10th, 2014 at 12:46 am

do you have any more points to make or are you just going to insult me instead?

      • R.J. Carter September 9th, 2014 at 5:14 pm

Gun owners period should have gun safes and insurance at the very least.

And don’t even get me started on Dubya….
And then there are the ones who would call this an accident to have a 5 year old unattended with a shotgun…

        • Terry September 7th, 2014 at 12:36 pm
