70-Year-Old Woman Shot In Her Back By Stray Bullet While She Was Sleeping
A 70-year-old West Virginia woman was shot by a stray bullet while she was sleeping in her Charleston home early Sunday morning. When Police responded to the report of a shooting around 3:30 Sunday morning, they found a woman who had been shot by a stray bullet.
[su_center_ad]According to police, at least three stray bullets hit her home, with one going through the siding, hitting the woman in her lower back.
She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say there are no reports of any other victims. She was released and went home to recover on Sunday afternoon.
According to WSAZ, neighbors said random shots have hit homes in the area before. The side of one woman’s house was hit a few months ago, just a few feet from where she was sleeping. “If the air conditioning unit hadn’t been in the window, it would have come straight toward me.”
“We used to feel at least safe enough to come out here and sit on the porch,” she said.
Police say they don’t have any suspects, but they are continuing to investigate the incident.
According to one witness, a man was seen running away from the area just after the shooting. According to police, the woman was not the target and the motivation for the shooting is known at this time.
Charleston Police Lt. Steve Cooper says, “this is just one of the more bothersome incidents for us and it’s top priority for us to figure out what happened.”
