[su_right_ad]Ben Carson says we shouldn’t be “demonizing this guy.”

During an appearance with Steve Malzberg on NewsMax TV, Dr. Ben Carson shared his opinions on the matter, in essence defending Rice and laying near equal blame on Palmer.

“I’m hopeful they will get some help for him,” Carson said, after being asked whether he agreed with the moves today by the team and the league. “I mean, obviously anyone who would do something like that needs some help.”

“And let’s not all jump on the bandwagon of demonizing this guy,” Carson continued. “He obviously has some real problems, and his wife obviously knows that, because she subsequently married him. So they both need some help. So rather than just jumping on a punitive bandwagon, let’s just see if we can get some help for these people.”

Yes, they “both need some help.” But only one of them was dragged unconscious out of an elevator after being brought down by a single punch.

And where is Dr. Carson to say the same thing about Michael Brown re: not demonizing the little guy? Bueller? Bueller?

  2. edmeyer_able September 8th, 2014 at 5:20 pm

Ben Stein would probably say he was only “standing his ground” after all look at the arms on that woman………/s

    • tiredoftea September 8th, 2014 at 7:05 pm

She is bigger than him, after all.

  3. Tom Ward September 8th, 2014 at 5:35 pm

Who assaulted who first? If it was him then what he did should be demonized. If it was her then I might agree with Ben Carson.

    • edmeyer_able September 8th, 2014 at 5:39 pm

It is NEVER acceptable to hit a woman.

      • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 3:11 am

my post/response may be unpopular, and may offend some. doesn’t take away the fact that it true. males can be the subject of “silent abuse as well.” we are always there to protect our daughters, but mothers, remember to protect your sons as well. sad. women are/can be harder on women, yet men are never harder (almost never) on men.

        • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 3:26 am

whatever happened to my repsponse to edmeyer…? it may not be popular but it was about my experience regarding his post/comment.

          • Carla Akins September 9th, 2014 at 4:59 am

It was just hung up in moderation. Although most comments gp straight through, the word filtering system will hold some in moderation – if no one is awake to moderate the comment and approve them, they’ll hang there until someone manually pushes them through. Think of Carlin’s 7 dirty words as a guide….it had nothing to do with the content of your posting.

    • NW10 September 8th, 2014 at 5:50 pm

Regardless of who threw the first punch, there was no excuse for Rice’s wife to be beaten unconscious. Carson is wrong either way.

      • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 2:03 am

beaten? she wasn’t beaten, she was knocked out with one punch. a tiny bit of a difference. quite frankly, that’s worse.

    • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:29 pm

it pretty much doesn’t matter if she went full-on cray-cray on his ass…he’s a football player, and she’s just a skinny, pretty girl…she can’t “hurt” him, he knocked her out cold with one punch…

      • edmeyer_able September 8th, 2014 at 6:34 pm

Exactly he’s 5’8″ and 206 lb if he can’t protect himself against a woman w/o punching her, he shouldn’t be playing football in the first place.

        • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:44 pm

he’s much smaller than i’d imagined–matters not–he’s a man, and stronger and more powerful than she is…no…i’m afraid he’s deserving of his devil horns… 🙂

        • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 2:01 am

maybe he shouldn’t be with anyone with his temperment in the first place, that’s smaller than himself. football players are strong period right? ever seen a skinny, whimpy, weak, crybaby football player? not me.

      • Carla Akins September 8th, 2014 at 6:50 pm

It was his total lack of concern over her unconscious state after her knocked her out that bothered me most.

        • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 1:57 am

what bothered me most was the “knock out punch like she was a man.” but that’s just me.

      • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 1:56 am

i am in agreement with everything except the “pretty girl” comment. so, would it be ok if she were an “ugly/unattractive, in your opinion girl?” WOW! hope not, because that would be shallow.

        • Tammy Minton Haley September 9th, 2014 at 5:02 pm

you read too much into it–a common problem in today’s culture…

    • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 1:55 am

tard. that’s it. well, not really. let me ask you this. if you and tyson got into an argument and you pushed him because he got into your face, are you expecting, rather would you accept it if he punched you on the side of the head to the point of punching your lights out? or would you expect him to just push you back? i mean, you’re no match for him right?

  4. M D Reese September 8th, 2014 at 5:41 pm

    Jail first. Then counseling.

  5. Anomaly 100 September 8th, 2014 at 6:10 pm

Geez, I hate doing this but I somewhat agree with this jerk. They do *both* need help, but until Ray Rice gets it, he’ll be demonized.

    • edmeyer_able September 8th, 2014 at 6:18 pm

I can’t wrap my head around the fact a woman would consent to marrying this guy. I know that there are people who believe they deserve the punishment they rec’d but to marry and then go to counseling, that’s just destructive behavior.

      • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:25 pm

how did you reply to Anomaly? there is no “reply” tag under her comment on my screen…

        • edmeyer_able September 8th, 2014 at 6:28 pm

There is on mine, try refresh.

          • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:30 pm

            of course…*duh*… 🙂

        • mea_mark September 8th, 2014 at 6:52 pm

You can’t reply to comments until they are approved. Comment was probably approved after you opened the window and before you refreshed.

          • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:55 pm

oh…ya’ll have to pre-approve every single comment, every single time?

          • mea_mark September 8th, 2014 at 7:02 pm

No Anomaly just broke the rules, see other reply to you.

          • tiredoftea September 8th, 2014 at 7:04 pm

If she would only whitelist herself, I wouldn’t have to be approving her comments!

          • mea_mark September 8th, 2014 at 7:15 pm

If only it were that easy, maybe if there was an extra special whitelist that bypassed the language filters.

          • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 1:50 am

            ya’ll crazy funny.

      • Anomaly 100 September 8th, 2014 at 10:50 pm

I agree. Aside from the money factor, the only way it can be explained is either: Stockholm syndrome or being beaten into submission. Or…just a very low self-worth. Sad, isn’t it?

    • Linda1961 September 8th, 2014 at 6:39 pm

They both need help, I do agree, but that doesn’t excuse Ray Rice’s behavior.

      • Anomaly 100 September 8th, 2014 at 6:50 pm

        Exactly!

        • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 1:34 am

i doubt this is the first incident, just the first caught on tape.

    • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:40 pm

wow–when i first came onsite, it had your comment being “held for moderation”–and it said, “show comment”…so i clicked that, but it didn’t give me a “reply” tag for you, until i refreshed…(thank you, edmeyer)…

anywhos…i understand what you mean–she totally needs counseling, so she can figure out why she’s with an abuser…but, he needs punishment and counseling…and our puritanical society loveslovesloves them some tearing down of a former “hero”—hence, “demonization”..

it’s a kind of sickness, in our culture…we do it to anybody we can, from a homeless guy–thinking about that Ted dude, “Kraft Mac-n-Cheese” on Dr. Phil, remember him?–to big-time movie stars and politicians…we love it…

      • Anomaly 100 September 8th, 2014 at 6:49 pm

I completely agree. It’s a two-folded issue: punishment and counseling for him so he will be held accountable. She needs help, too. .

        • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:54 pm

i’ve never worked in the field, or been in a relationship that i would consider physically abusive…but, i understand this issue is terribly complicated on both ends of it…i’m glad there is more and more attention being paid to athletes’ bad behavior, these guys have been untouchable for far too long…it’s time for accountability…

          • Anomaly 100 September 8th, 2014 at 10:36 pm

We don’t need a Steubenville redux. This has all happened before.

          • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 1:33 am

politicians are also notorious for bad behavior. if it isn’t caught on tape… GONE WITH THE WIND IT IS.

      • mea_mark September 8th, 2014 at 6:51 pm

Anomaly knows better, “jerk” throws the comment into moderation and she just didn’t approve of herself, lol. She once did that and I approved her comment an hour later, just let it sit in moderation for fun.

        • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 7:24 pm

well, i was wonderin’! how could a mod not be approved? ever? just approve yourself! 🙂

i don’t have the temperament for moderator…people get me all worked up!

          • Anomaly 100 September 8th, 2014 at 10:35 pm

I do not approve of myself. I’m an awful person:-)

  6. Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:17 pm

well, dammit, if nothing else, that comment should keep this nut away from a presidential nomination…

    i mean, you’d think it will, right…?

    • edmeyer_able September 8th, 2014 at 6:20 pm

Pretty much everything he’s ever said.

    • fancypants September 8th, 2014 at 6:33 pm

without a doubt ! you can stick a fork in any woman votes

      • Tammy Minton Haley September 8th, 2014 at 6:48 pm

one can dream, that one day, the electorate will actually stop voting against their own best interests…one can dream…

        • fancypants September 8th, 2014 at 7:06 pm

until we see presidential candidates who don’t take cpac bribes ? sing along with the famous wife beater himself …

Conservative women can do strange things. Some will vote for him.

    • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 1:29 am

      you’d think.

  7. bhil September 8th, 2014 at 6:23 pm

Dr. Ben do you think they need help, don’t be shy what do you think this week.

  8. fancypants September 8th, 2014 at 6:31 pm

Ray made plenty of $$$$ since signing on with the ravens…. Ben
so now its ray’s turn to see how unemployment treats him. what comes around goes around my holy bible thumping friend.

  9. No way out September 8th, 2014 at 6:44 pm

Now that Ray’s out of work, she’ll dump his clown arse

    • juicyfruityyy September 8th, 2014 at 7:43 pm

By him being unemployed; this would make him more dangerous. She should just leave. But don’t tell him. Just pack a bag and go.

      • edmeyer_able September 8th, 2014 at 8:16 pm

Not sure it matters but I think he’ll still be paid, and as many have said they both need therapy.

        • whatthe46 September 8th, 2014 at 10:41 pm

          there’s therapy in jail.

      • whatthe46 September 8th, 2014 at 10:45 pm

of course he’s going to be more pissed than ever now, you’re right. its actually no different than when a woman who’s abused and call the police, the minute he gets out of jail (after 1 hr. of time out) its going to get worse (may even result in death). its why women recant. in those cases you’ve only fk’d with someones freedom. in his case, you’ve just fk’d with his money. people get killed over 20.00, this dude lost 1+ mill. dollar contract. my ass surely wouldn’t be in that house when he came home. and i know she has a passport. to hell with that.

Right wingers see rape as an act of love, so it would stand to reason that they have no problem with domestic violence

    • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 12:23 am

especially if you become pregnant, then it must not be rape. women, shut that thing down if you want us to believe you!

  11. NW10 September 8th, 2014 at 6:53 pm

What are Dr. Carson’s thoughts on the Violence Against Women Act?

  12. Budda September 8th, 2014 at 7:38 pm

I just can’t seem to agree that a strong male in his prime can justifiably punch a woman.

  13. juicyfruityyy September 8th, 2014 at 7:38 pm

Is he endorsing Rice; to have his own slot time on Fauk Noose?

Obviously nobody reads. He did not defend Rice. So Rice’s wife subsequently married Rice, so is she now starting a war on herself?

    • Carla Akins September 8th, 2014 at 8:22 pm

Funny, did you read any of the comments below before posting this?

    • Skydog2 September 8th, 2014 at 9:28 pm

You’re correct, he clearly did not defend Rice.

  16. labman57 September 8th, 2014 at 8:49 pm

Punch your lady in the face?
    “Well you’re clearly a man’s man.”

Help to provide affordable health care coverage to millions of Americans?
“You sir, are the spawn of Satan.”

  17. Skydog2 September 8th, 2014 at 9:25 pm

“…..obviously anyone who would do something like that needs some help” “He obviously has some real problems”
I don’t see where Carson defended Rice.

    • whatthe46 September 8th, 2014 at 10:41 pm

its what’s missing. nothing about, he should lose his job. nothing about, he should not have received a simple “punishment.” its a lot to do with omission. do you think for one moment you’d get the same supportive response? this woman could have been killed. aside from that, this fool should STFU!

    • whatthe46 September 9th, 2014 at 12:49 am

“And let’s not all jump on the bandwagon of demonizing this guy,”

      that’s defending him…. he has problems… that’s excusing him.

      • Skydog2 September 9th, 2014 at 7:51 am

Saying the punishment should fit the “crime” is not defending him.

  18. whatthe46 September 8th, 2014 at 10:37 pm

clearly you have some serious issues. i don’t think a woman should put her hands on a man either, but she appeared each time to be defending herself. and how convienent he waited until they were out of the public eye (sorta speak… cameras) before he hit her like he was tyson. that was uncalled for period. even tyson’s hands are registered, because its clear that the average person would not be capable of withstanding his blows. this guy is pure muscle and strength, a hard push (which is what he does by the way for a living) could have caused serious harm. people have died from one blow (grown men hitting someone without the strength he possess). get real. damn dude you’re angry. and this has nothing to do with social status. that’s an ignorant statement.

  19. Um Cara September 9th, 2014 at 12:06 am

Your “different etiology” sucks. You sound like a violent psycho. Seek mental health treatment. Please.

  21. liberalMD September 11th, 2014 at 12:12 am

There is something really wrong with a person who condones violence against women.
