A Kansas woman who played a part in intentionally starving her 3-month-old baby to death has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. The baby’s father, 27-year-old Nicholas Corbin, has pleaded no contest to first-degree murder and is awaiting sentencing later this month.

[su_center_ad]21-year-old Desirah Overturf was sentenced Monday for first-degree murder in the death of Jordan Corbin in December, according to KMBC.

Prosecutors say that because Corbin and Overturf did not like being parents, they decided to starve the baby so they could have their former life back.

Overturf’s attorney asked for leniency, saying that Corbin decided to starve the child and she agreed because she has several personality disorders.

Prosecutors said that Overturf did have personality disorders but she still could have saved her son.

Rest in peace, little one.

I have no pity for her. She did it deliberately and intentionally. She could have given the child up for adoption. i sure she could have called one of those Right to Right Organizations.

It’s Kansas FFS – you can’t around without running into one of those “rights” groups. There are a million things they could have done but they didn’t. They can burn.

I agree. Kansas has closed another one of its remaining PP clinics, giving women in crisis no place else to go. I also blame the pro-life groups for this heinous crime!

Lifecall, PCC Wichita, Sarah’s Hope, Heartland Pregnancy Care Center, Ramah International — all of these agencies turned this couple down every time they were contacted, right?

The woman in the article didn’t bother to try–which is the main issue. Bunya’s comment is a general comment about how the GOPTPers and Pro-Birthers are making it as difficult as possible for women and couples to get reproductive healthcare.

Yes. It was, in other words, deflection from the story.

Kansas Safe Haven would have taken the baby without question until 45 days, but any child under a year can be surrendered to DFS in KS and as long as no physical abuse has occurred there is no penalty to the parent. You’re right they chose to kill their baby instead of any of the other options –

Do the hospitals there also have the safe haven policies for unwanted children?

          • Carla Akins September 9th, 2014 at 4:29 pm

Hospitals (ER’s specifically I think), police and fire, sheriff and fire stations. Personally, I think all Safe Haven laws should be up to the first year. Most new parents can survive the first 45 days, it’s after the new wears off, torture levels of sleep deprivation and no one stopping by to help any longer that it gets tough.

This should really please the “pro-life” crowd. She at least made the child suffer before it died, as the god intended.

    • Obewon September 9th, 2014 at 2:23 pm

Life in prison for the mentally ill pro-lifers. Pro-life is once again proven an OCD personality disorder applied to others ‘do as I say, not as I do’ ignorant that 4+ natural miscarriages precede each live birth.

      • R.J. Carter September 9th, 2014 at 2:45 pm

These two were indicated as being pro-lifers exactly where in this article?

        • M D Reese September 9th, 2014 at 2:51 pm

That wasn’t Obewon’s meaning. The comment from Bunya was how the pro-life crowd is all for birth, but couldn’t care less once we get here.

          • R.J. Carter September 9th, 2014 at 2:54 pm

Were they given a chance to care? Do they need to start monitoring new parents to ensure they’re doing their part to keep their kid alive?

Bread and water three times a day.

      you’re too kind.

  5. Teri Weimer September 9th, 2014 at 5:38 pm

There are countless “safe surrender” sites. Any hospital. Fire department. Police department. You can safely surrender your baby. No questions asked.

adoption, safe houses.better still, condoms, birth control pills…
