Former South Carolina governor and current Congressman Mark Sanford is calling off his engagement to the woman who was once his mistress. In a Facebook post, he blames his ex-wife for his difficulties.

[su_center_ad]

“No relationship can stand forever this tension of being forced to pick between the one you love and your own son or daughter, and for this reason Belen and I have decided to call off the engagement. Maybe there will be another chapter when waters calm with Jenny, but at this point the environment is not conducive to building anything given no one would want to be caught in the middle of what’s now happening.”

His Facebook post goes on to give much personal information about issues he’s facing with his divorce:

…let’s recognize the degree to which what’s being done seems designed to embarrass me rather than change anything. As mentioned I never hired a lawyer at the time of the divorce which in practical terms means I just folded all the cards in giving Jenny what she wanted at that time. She wanted a certain financial number that I didn’t have, and so I gave her pieces of our family farm that my dad and mom assembled in the 1950’s and 60’s. They were obviously not “marital assets” normally divided in a divorce, but the only way I could manage to get to her number. She wanted full custody of the boys, I gave it. She wanted full control of their custodial accounts which were very significant in size, I gave it. I did these things for two reasons. One, because my good friend Cubby Culbertson had reminded me that it was all God’s – and if he wanted you to have more, you would…and if he wanted you to have less, you would have less. He accordingly strongly advised against spending money and time and controversy fighting over things that God ultimately controlled.[su_csky_ad]

What a swell guy! Well at least he’s in a profession that he’s perfectly suited for, and surrounded by people just like him.

I’m expecting to see some real campaign finance reform that allows tail hiking expenses to be included. That way, even if they get tax free traveling expenses, they won’t have to pay back any TAXPAYER monies used.

I feel so sorry for Mark Sanford now.
Obviously, he is the real victim in all this…..

    • dave-dr-gonzo September 12th, 2014 at 8:27 pm

The poor ex-Governor should consider getting away for a while to forget his woes. Maybe another hike on the Appalachian Trail…

    • granpa.usthai September 12th, 2014 at 8:54 pm

I think what his mommie and daddie left for him is the real victim. OK -so he got caught using TAXPAYER monies to go tail hiking – BUTT – he did pay it back. He’s WHITE, Republican, and from an overly well to do family, thanks to God and a rigged tax system that favors WHITE well to do Republicans – so no harm, no foul.
However, he could have done a lot cheaper tail hiking in and around Columbia, SC which would have left a lot more of what mommie and daddie left him. Fortunately, his sons born by Jenny, will receive some pretty substantial something, (which has got to be more than a little bit) especially when upwards of $25,000 for a week-end tail hike doesn’t even phase the guy.

Real class to the end. I glanced through his endless Facebook post, and I immediately thought, why is he telling all this private stuff to the whole world? If his intention was to gain sympathy, I think it did exactly the opposite. He will get nothing but scorn.

    • whatthe46 September 12th, 2014 at 8:27 pm

that too was my first thought. why are you telling this to everyone? i often wonder why people post “on my way to work” and he just went on and on about a very personal matter. dummy.

    • granpa.usthai September 12th, 2014 at 9:00 pm

could be his tail hiking companion caught him tail hiking on another tail?

    • dianegordon September 13th, 2014 at 5:19 am

how embarrassing! what a messed up person. But we’re reading about it, lol!

Nice to see he still can’t accept personal responsibility, plan to keep it in his pants or able to keep his mouth shut. He’s a charmer.

    • granpa.usthai September 12th, 2014 at 8:42 pm

Republicans who were raised with the ‘hard ships’ (eg: tail hiking of what mommie and daddie leaves them) no doubt think so.

On the bright side, Anomaly is still looking around, right?

      • Anomaly 100 September 12th, 2014 at 9:09 pm

        Yes, but really?

        • tiredoftea September 12th, 2014 at 9:11 pm

Well, he’s available, he has a farm and he’s not too geographically undesirable. So, you know…

Now there’s an idea. He likes the outdoors and politics…I wonder if he’s a cat lover..

        • tiredoftea September 12th, 2014 at 9:37 pm

He has a farm, or rather a part of one, and farms need cats, right? So, he just has to be a cat lover.

          • Carla Akins September 12th, 2014 at 9:43 pm

Well we know he likes p…

the Debil part made her do it.

  5. granpa.usthai September 12th, 2014 at 8:39 pm

sounds to me like ‘ole like unto biblical King Marcus is a wanting to go tail hiking again.
BTW – all the ‘giving’ done with Jen was more of complying with SC Divorce Law than actual remorseful condescending, but hey, maybe enough Republican Lawmakers will sniff, sniff, pass a law allowing a percentage (LARGE AMOUNT) of campaign financing to go towards tail hiking? – If not, and assuming you get caught using TAXPAYER monies for tail hiking – AGAIN! – I guess you’ll just have to use a little more of what mommie and daddie work so hard to leave for you to pay the tail hiking money back – AGAIN!?!

  6. tiredoftea September 12th, 2014 at 9:09 pm

Christian’s are really unbelievably delusional people. BTW, who would listen to an adult named Cubby about legal matters?

    • granpa.usthai September 13th, 2014 at 3:59 am

probably someone who lawyers shy away from. His mommie and daddie’s money that was left to him might be good, but losing an internationally watched divorce case would pretty much end any career in the legal profession. Actually ‘cubby’s’ got the best idea. Blame it on God and hopefully enough folks will buy it without stopping to think about who did what and came out squeaky clean except for a few lost worldly possessions. Besides, the way this post sounds, he’s getting ditched anyway.

    • John Dale September 13th, 2014 at 9:46 pm

      That’s a misprint…he was saying “Chubby”

      • tiredoftea September 13th, 2014 at 10:11 pm

Ahhh, now it makes sense! Thanks!

  7. juicyfruityyy September 12th, 2014 at 9:14 pm

Get married, Sanford and move on. God didn’t adviced you to cheat on your wife, neglect your responsibilities, and go galloping down the Appalachian Trails.

    • whatthe46 September 12th, 2014 at 10:11 pm

      thank you.

    • granpa.usthai September 13th, 2014 at 4:10 am

better he remain a fornicator, juicy. If his supporters opt to follow God like their book says, he’s gotta be taken outside Charleston and stoned to death for ADULTERY.
Fornication is generally accepted as a failing of man, but ADULTERY is a definite violation of the big ten. Besides, who will marry him? Jen already has the best parts of his mommie and daddie’s farm, and it’s not like anybody knows about his tail hiking.

“…I gave it. I did these things for two reasons. One, because I didn’t want the responsibility of children or finances to interfere with my torrid affair and two, see #1.”

    There, fixed it for you.

‘Conservative Republican Family Values’ in a nutshell!

kinda makes you want to know his voting record since his (not so) Godly supporters sent him back to DC.

  9. granpa.usthai September 13th, 2014 at 4:11 am

Good news for Mark. He can now hook up with that Virginia guy whose wife made him do all kinds of bad things too!

  10. Larry Schmitt September 13th, 2014 at 5:06 am

This is why congress has such low approval ratings. People like this get elected, and reelected, ad infinitum. The people deserve the representation they vote for.

  11. Bunya September 13th, 2014 at 2:41 pm

The poor guy. He lost his wife, his children, his money and his self respect – all for a piece of ass. Breaks my heart. However, on the bright side, he has God to blame for all his problems, thereby keeping him in the good graces of his idiot constituents.

Watch for his next electoral blockbuster, when he uses the ol’ David “Diaperman” Vitter excuse – “God and my wife have forgiven me” to get re-elected..

  12. katrina September 13th, 2014 at 8:41 pm

And, I bet it was his fiance that blew him off…

  13. Kmom4kids September 13th, 2014 at 11:01 pm

And still South Carolinians voted this obvious cuckoo in. Guess he wants to “hike the Appalachian Trail” with someone else. He should stop blaming his ex for his own misgivings. Funny how he wanted her to run his campaign, but psycho Mark now is blaming her for all his personal problems. Know a trouble maker when you see one. He is neither worthy nor fit to be a U.S Senator. It is the entire country who must pay his salary and benefits not just the people from his state.
