Betsy McCaughey Walks Off Daily Show
Betsy McCaughey, the former Lt. Governor of New York who promoted the idea of “death panels.” didn’t have a good time when interviewed by Jordan Kelpper on The Daily Show.[su_center_ad]
Klepper tried his best on last night’s show to find some silver lining of terror – but was incredibly unsuccessful. First, he tried to talk to Betsy McCaughey – the woman who coined the term “death panel” and had her own tough appearance on The Daily Show five years ago. But she wasn’t having it, ripping off her mic and leaving after the first question.
He then talked to a nurse who lost her job because of Obamacare, the perfect bit of bad news. Except she was thrilled to lose her job, because her patients could now afford health care. Her free clinic was even shut down! … Which is actually a good thing.
“No sad hugs,” the nurse told Klepper as he tried to drum up drama. “We’re happy.”

If she coined the term “death panels” she should have been able to defend it. She walked away from her own belief.

Although McCaughey is surely one of the earliest to fling this bullshit claim into the public discourse, she didn’t originate the term “death panel.” (follow Eric’s link to the first McCaughey appearance on The Daily Show to verify this).That would be our own beloved brawling hillbilly Queen of the Last Frontier Sarah Palin.

I wish every news program did as good a job of reporting as the Daily Show writers. Not a single msm station will ask the hard questions any more,they set the person up with what seems like pre-submitted questions so they can spew their rhetoric.

Thanks for that, Eric. I think. Good grief. Extra points to Jon Stewart for resisting the impulse to simply point out the obvious: that she’s batshit crazy (though at the end of the second part of the interview, he advises viewers to watch online with “the friend who normally helps you through bad trips”).

And every candidate with less than zero chance of getting in the White House is still proclaiming “The first thing we’ll do is repeal Obamacare.” How pissed off would all those newly insured Americans be if they actually did that?
