The Sunshine State and Texas have more in common than not, so maybe a particular love for the mythos of the Old West isn’t unexpected. Neither, in that sense, is a particular fetish for playing with guns. And either of those can be fine, in themselves. Just like everything’s fine…until some idiot shoots his sister in…

Unfuckingbeliveable! A true WTF Florida! The f’ing NRA morons really think that this shining example of responsible gun ownership is justified on any level? I’m just baffled that these mouth breathing idiots get to dictate that unfettered, unregulated and unsupervised gun ownership can possibly be a good thing for our society.

      At her birthday party.

      • whatthe46 September 18th, 2014 at 9:50 pm

“Eight people, including six children, killed in Florida domestic shooting” this just in tonight. anyone, apparently, can own a gun. can you post this for discussion?
        *********
now this case, i’m sick to my stomach. i can’t even begin to imagine what her daughter is going through. not just her mother’s untimely “homicide” but on her birthdate no less. her life will forever be fk’d because of this idiot. so, what would be a sane reason he could possibly come up with, that it was necessary to even bring a gun to a birthday party of his family members? was he expecting a gun war? it makes no sense to have the damn thing everywhere you go. you’re not even pulling it out as a defense but to play with it as a toy. now look. i’m so sick.

  2. edmeyer_able September 18th, 2014 at 9:19 pm

What kind of idiot would do this with a loaded pistol to begin with, it should be a charge of criminally negligent homicide at the very least.

    • Lance Helsten September 19th, 2014 at 8:51 am

The first rule of firearm safety is that “all firearms are loaded” means this type of horseplay is ALWAYS dangerous.

        duh

Asinine behavior and worthy of mention, but sadly that family will never be the same…

  5. whatthe46 September 18th, 2014 at 9:54 pm

furthermore, what on earth made the others think this could possibly be fun, to just stand around while he pulls out his iron penis to play with?

  6. Lance Helsten September 18th, 2014 at 9:54 pm

I love the hyperbole: “half the state would be in prison”. That would be difficult given that there is only 350 unintentionally deaths from firearms each year in the US. As an NRA life member it is idiots like these that give the millions of law abiding and safe users of firearms a bad name. Perhaps a charge of negligent homicide would be appropriate.

    • whatthe46 September 18th, 2014 at 9:56 pm

there are also “law abiding” owners that have mental issues that kill their entire families as well.

      • Lance Helsten September 18th, 2014 at 10:07 pm

When they kill their families then by definition they are not “law abiding”.

        • whatthe46 September 18th, 2014 at 10:10 pm

they were when they purchased the guns right?

          • edmeyer_able September 19th, 2014 at 10:55 am

If all you’re interested in is the statistics you’re part of the problem. Better you should spend your time promoting laws that would promote safe storage.

          • Lance Helsten September 19th, 2014 at 7:31 pm

Safe storage would not eliminate those homicides, but learning “anger management” would. It you read the entire post I was pointing out a major cause of homicides and I was giving a solution so your accusation that I am only interested in stats is incorrect.

          • edmeyer_able September 19th, 2014 at 7:35 pm

But it would eliminate the scores of children shooting children, or are you discounting those as well?

          • Lance Helsten September 19th, 2014 at 8:02 pm

I was speaking specifically to homicides that occur within a family in which “anger management” would be highly effective.

Children shooting children has multiple meanings: 1) unintentional shootings where safe storage would have an effect (this is not counted as homicides) or 2) homicides committed by teenagers and young adults where safe storage would not have an impact.

In the first case, which I believe you are discussing, I do agree that safe storage could have a positive effect, but I do not agree that it is a complete solution. In addition there should be safety training for children so they don’t treat these tools as toys. This training should be neutral on gun rights/gun control and only deal with safety.

          • edmeyer_able September 19th, 2014 at 8:10 pm

I see you’re not serious, trying to teach anger mgt to people who can barely write a coherent sentence and spend 1/4 of their income on liquor and cigs isn’t going to solve anything. good bye

          • Christopher Alan Shaner September 19th, 2014 at 12:58 pm

being unable to control your anger is a mental f****** disorder !

          • Carla Akins September 19th, 2014 at 8:21 pm

I don’t believe you understand that domestic violence and mentally illness can and does exist with and with anger management issues. As well as anger management being an issue all by itself due to a lack of control or social skills.

Anger management ma be able to help those suffering in the latter category – but I’m not betting my kid’s life on it. These are a very small percentage of shootings. Batterers and stalkers suffer from a serious personality disorder with its own section in the DMS V. Those suffering from mental health issues require appropriate medication, supervision, talk therapy or a combination of all three – what they absolutely do not need is a firearm.

          • Lance Helsten September 20th, 2014 at 10:59 am

Since there is no category in the FBI crime reports for mental illness, but there is one on arguments I used “anger management” to describe that category. You may be completely right that the arguments are caused by mental illness, but from my experience arguments usually involve anger management.

As to those who suffer mental illness needing treatment and keeping arms out of their hands until they are cured: we are in agreement.

        • Carla Akins September 18th, 2014 at 10:10 pm

hindsight is great, but up until that point – yes they would be considered law abiding.

        • fahvel September 19th, 2014 at 4:15 am

but if they kill a bird or a bad guy or a deer they are only exercising their rights as chicken shits.

    • Christopher Alan Shaner September 19th, 2014 at 12:10 am

Where the hell did you get 350 from, the N.R.A.s homepage ?

    • fahvel September 19th, 2014 at 4:14 am

there is no safe use of a fire arm – these things are designed to kill – not scare or wave – just plain kill – you have one? then one day you will take a life and that’s unforgivable regardless of you words.

      • Lance Helsten September 19th, 2014 at 8:48 am

If I kill to prevent murder, sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery, or other violent crime I will not worry about your condemnation. You view all killing as unforgivable, I view killing as justified in specific cases, thus I will always be condemned by you, but you are protected by people like me.

“Those who ‘abjure’ violence can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf.” ~George Orwell, Notes on Nationalism, 1945

        • edmeyer_able September 19th, 2014 at 12:14 pm

You don’t protect me, you are a danger to all those around you. Climb off your high horse and look reality in the face. I can only hope those near you wake up before it’s too late.

  7. juicyfruityyy September 18th, 2014 at 10:20 pm

Why didn’t he unload the gun first? When do they think these guns are some type of tonka toy?

    • Anomaly 100 September 18th, 2014 at 10:28 pm

I was specifically told in another comment thread here by a open carry dork that guns are nothing to be feared because they’re “inanimate objects.”

Bombs are inanimate objects, too, but whatevs.

      • whatthe46 September 18th, 2014 at 10:42 pm

wasn’t that “leonard” who said that?

        • Anomaly 100 September 18th, 2014 at 10:53 pm

Yes, yes it was. Where is the little feller? Shouldn’t he be here explaining why this man shot his sister dead with freedom bullets?

          • raincheck September 19th, 2014 at 6:22 am

            lol

      • R.J. Carter September 19th, 2014 at 5:22 pm

They’re only inanimate until acted upon by an outside force. Darned Newton.

        • Anomaly 100 September 19th, 2014 at 5:29 pm

But they should be respected as a weapon.

          • R.J. Carter September 19th, 2014 at 5:45 pm

            Especially when someone animates them.

    • Lance Helsten September 19th, 2014 at 8:53 am

The first rule of firearm safety is that “all firearms are loaded”. Guns are not toys and this type of play is ALWAYS dangerous so “unloading” is irrelevant.

      • juicyfruityyy September 19th, 2014 at 1:58 pm

But the dead sister is very relevant. He should not have been playing with a loaded gun.

        • Lance Helsten September 19th, 2014 at 5:11 pm

A gun is always loaded and so playing with a gun violates the first rule of gun safety. What I meant by irrelevant is that you don’t “unload a gun” and then “play with it” instead you just don’t play with it.

  8. Carla Akins September 18th, 2014 at 10:25 pm

I wonder why Leonard isn’t over here defending the brother’s right for gun ownership.

i thought the same thing. didn’t have a chance to say it because, well, i needed to get a beer.

  9. Ty Emzone September 19th, 2014 at 12:22 am

About 90 people per day, which is about one every 15-20 minutes, around the clock, die of gunshot wounds in the United States. Every day, 365 days a year, every year. As many deaths every month or so as happened on 911. Imagine if bad people came to this country and killed 3000 people a month, every month, month after month. The country would be in turmoil. But in the case of gun deaths, the country mostly pays no attention whatever.

  10. William September 19th, 2014 at 12:23 am

This idiot should try to re-enact the Russian Roulette trick from The Deer Hunter, with all chambers loaded.

  11. Ty Emzone September 19th, 2014 at 12:59 am

Americans have been steadily rejecting gun ownership for 50 years. Then, half of US households had guns. Today about 30% do. More guns are sold, but to a smaller and smaller share of households. That’s not an accidental trend or a trick of numbers. It’s a reconsideration of the advisability of having guns around, and the people are voting with their wallets.

  12. whatthe46 September 19th, 2014 at 5:16 am

just a thought. i wonder if he thinks the “gun trick” was worth his sister’s life. i wonder if he thought he was one of those “responsible” gun owners. i wonder if he was one of those “we need guns everywhere we go” people. (actually i answered my own question there) i wonder if he will leave the dark side after he killed his sister in front of his sister’s daughter.

    • ohb552 September 20th, 2014 at 4:04 pm

or if he will continue to claim guns don’t kill……………that would mean HE KILLED, not the gun.

    No one called 911???

Another “good guy with a gun,” right Fifi LaPierre?

  17. Pilotshark September 19th, 2014 at 9:32 am

” Florida, as all know, can’t prosecute for sheer negligent stupidity with a firearm. Half the state would be in prison”

well then if you start by placing half of that Half in jail for negligent that maybe, just maybe the others would wake up.

SMH what a waste, but then again who am i to expect people, not to act craze and all.

Just another responsible gun owner, taken that next step to being a non-responsible gun owner.
guess the gun still didn’t kill anyone, it was the sidewalk. let that defense begin.

OK as dumb ass and tragic as this incident is…I really want to watch Tombstone now. I loved that movie.

They don’t realize that movies are done over and over until they are exactly the way they want them. Movies are not real life.
