The group will be plastering its anti-Muslim bigotry on New York city buses, presenting Islam as an inherently violent religion.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), which is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and led by blogger Pamela Geller and writer Robert Spencer, announced recently that it plans to run six anti-Islam ads on more than 100 buses in New York City starting next week.

“Our ads are designed to raise awareness about the need for Muslims in the US not just to denounce ISIS, but to teach young Muslims why this understanding of Islam is wrong and must be rejected,” Geller wrote on her website. She claimed in another post that the campaign, “boldly tells truths that the U.S. government and the mainstream media seem determined to obfuscate.”

…ads in the campaign call for the United States to “end all aid to Islamic countries,” and attempt to connect Hamas in Palestine to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an American Muslim organization that believes Islam is a peaceful religion, has condemned terrorism for years, and has passionately denounced ISIS as “un-Islamic and morally repugnant.”

CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper told ThinkProgress that while AFDI’s ads are deeply offensive to many Muslims, the extreme nature of the accusations is a tactic often used by anti-Islam groups to get attention and solicit funds.

“This is her usual schtick: anti-Muslim bigotry,” Hooper said, referring to Geller. “Basically what she does is go into a market and introduce the most inflammatory, defamatory remarks that she can possibly come up with, knowing that it will all give her free publicity. Then, if the [local transit authority] denies her, she sues and gets more publicity.”[su_csky_ad]

Did they place similar ads demonizing all christians after the OKC bombing? And doesn’t MTA have standards for what kind of advertising is unacceptable? Would they accept an ad from the KKK?

    • Skydog2 September 21st, 2014 at 9:41 am

McVeigh didn’t become a terrorist after converting to Christianity.

      • Larry Schmitt September 21st, 2014 at 10:02 am

And the ads aren’t referring to converts to Islam either.

Murderers of family planning clinic physicians and staff certainly do kill in the name of Christianity.

Then of course there are the Protestants and Catholics in northern Ireland who butchered each other for generations.

So you go right ahead and judge all Muslims by the acts of a few. But no whining when people do the same thing to Christians.

Forget the Crusades, forget the Inquisition, forget the Salem Witch Trials, McVeigh didn’t declare it was for Jehovah, so Xtians get a pass.

Oh, and I don’t really remember reports that the WTC bombers cried “allahu akbar” before impact (maybe because there were no survivors…), so I guess they get a pass too?

But, regardless of religious affiliation, he murdered innocents for an ideology. You know, the black helicopter, agenda 21, sovereign citizen, god-given natural rights RWNJ type ideology. So Rocturna spoke correctly when he or she said that IDEOLOGIES can unleash psychopaths.

I never would have guessed there was gambling going on in this casino.

Isn’t it interesting that the most exclusionary, discriminatory groups have safe, American sounding names, involving “freedom” (theirs) and family? Misleading, to say the least.

      • StoneyCurtisll September 21st, 2014 at 10:43 am

        Indeed.

    Apocalypse Now 21st Century…

John Bolton: Smell that? You smell that?
    Pamela Geller: What?
John Bolton: Islamophobia, girl. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
    [kneels]
John Bolton: I love the smell of Islamophobia in the morning. You know, one time they had a mosque planned for Ground Zero area, and we stopped that – for 12 days we took over the airwaves. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn’t find one of ’em. The smell, you know that fear and hate smell, the whole area. Smelled like
    [sniffing, pondering]
John Bolton: victory. Ya know we made sure this war’s never gonna end…
    [suddenly walks off]
