After pleading guilty to a campaign finance law violation, conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza has been sentenced to 8 months in community confinement during five years of probation.

The defendant, a frequent critic of President Barack Obama, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard Berman in Manhattan. He was also given a $30,000 fine and ordered to do one day of community service a week during his probation.

D’Souza, 53, admitted in May to illegally reimbursing two ‘straw donors’ who donated $10,000 each to the unsuccessful 2012 U.S. Senate campaign in New York of Wendy Long, a Republican he had known since attending Dartmouth College in the early 1980s.

“It was a crazy idea, it was a bad idea,” D’Souza told Berman before being sentenced. “I regret breaking the law.”

Prosecutors had sought a 10-to 16-month prison sentence, rejecting defense arguments that D’Souza was “ashamed and contrite” about his crime and deserved probation with community service.[su_csky_ad]

lol, he may not vote in the 2014, 2016,2018 elections…priceless

    • Abby Normal September 23rd, 2014 at 3:43 pm

I was going to ask him who he plans to vote for in in the next three elections but it would appear he has cancelled his Twitter account.

P.S. My mistake. He’s still on Twitter. @DineshDSouza

Feel free to send him your condolences!

“Community confinement”? What–does he suffer under the burden of affluenza?

    • mea_mark September 23rd, 2014 at 3:29 pm

Obviously, must be why they gave him so much community service to do. Maybe after five years of community service he won’t be so afflicted with affluenza.

      • M D Reese September 23rd, 2014 at 5:22 pm

Yeah–8 whole hours a week. I hope that he doesn’t muss his hair or break a nail…

        • mea_mark September 23rd, 2014 at 5:28 pm

          Actually that’s over 2000 hours.

I misread it–I thought it was just for the 8 months. It’s still not enough though, and I’m sure he’ll find some self-serving way to fulfill it.

Meanwhile Bill Ayers walks the streets a free man.

    • tracey marie September 23rd, 2014 at 4:03 pm

      lol, troll go home

    • arc99 September 23rd, 2014 at 4:17 pm

Bill Ayers was never convicted of any crime.

Walking the streets a free man or woman is the right of any person who has not been convicted of a crime. Why not grab a middle school civics text book and get caught up on the way America works.

Dinesh tweeted the following: A great calm comes over me when I remind myself that there is a higher power that is sovereign and remains in charge

I replied with the following: Do you think this higher power shares your political views?

Each time I send a tweet to Dinesh I get about a dozen of his weird followers following ME. Strange.

      Set them straight.

    • Ol Blue September 23rd, 2014 at 8:58 pm

Yeah, that “higher power” will be his bunkmate.

  5. uzza September 23rd, 2014 at 4:17 pm

That’s not a sentence. It’s missing a verb phrase, and the verb is “jailed”.

I was hoping he’d get 8 months in a “pounding in the ass”, prison, but then it occurred to me. Since he’s a republican and if that were the case, he’d probably be demanding 10 years, and I for one don’t want my tax dollars paying for his enjoyment.

Community confinement? What the hell is that? You move in with the Osmonds or something?

    • StoneyCurtisll September 23rd, 2014 at 5:03 pm

I had to look it up…

  8. StoneyCurtisll September 23rd, 2014 at 5:03 pm

Community confinement is a condition of probation or supervised release.
It involves residence in a halfway house, restitution center,
community treatment center, mental health facility, alcohol or drug
rehabilitation center, or other community facility..

Well I was hoping for at least a year behind bars…
Guess we have to settle for what we can get..:)

Would a less controversial figure get a tougher sentence?

  10. lois patuto September 23rd, 2014 at 8:23 pm

“…ordered to do one day of community service a week during his probation”. So, let’s all hope that his Fraud Spews appearances don’t count against that.
