Right-Wing Beating Up Obama For Saluting With Coffee Cup In Hand
This proves, says America’s right, that Barack Obama hates the military.
President Obama returned a formal military salute by saluting with a coffee cup he had in his hand as he stepped off his U.S. Marine Corps helicopter in New York on Sunday.

$11 trillion of debt created by Republican Presidents, millions of people who can’t find jobs because there are not enough to go around, food stamps at an all time high (about the only thing you get right, in context), where Obama has deported more illegals in 4 years than Bush ever did his entire 8 years, and people who want to cut our heads off (just like they want to cut a lot of heads off) – so its nothing new and you have a greater chance of dying in an airline crash, shark attack, or lightning strike than you do from having your head cut off as an American, by IS.

I spent 20 plus years in the service. When Reagan first started saluting, we shrugged our shoulders. Saluting in civilian attire is a no-no. It caught on somehow.
Out of uniform during an event like the national anthem, one simply places hand over heart…er that is if you actually know the location.

Rule applies to military personnel (and was amended by a provision of the 2009 Defense Authorization Act to allow them to salute out of uniform if the national anthem is being played), the president is a civilian.

to clarify, the ceremonial guard at the stairs are to hold their salute until the President passed them, in or out. Reagan, not knowing the procedure, got confused (again?) and returned their salute starting the whole ‘tradition’. Previous presidents did not return the salute at the stairs.
