A jury has convicted a Houston cancer doctor on Friday of assault for poisoning her lover and colleague’s coffee.

It took the jury nearly two days of deliberations to convict Dr. Ana Gonzalez, a world-renowned breast cancer oncologist. She faces 20 years to life in prison for poisoning Dr. George Blumenschein.

KHOU reports:

Prior to her conviction, the doctor’s attorneys said all the evidence against her was circumstantial. Defense attorneys accused prosecutors of leading witnesses to the same conclusion. They argued it didn’t make sense for Gonzalez to poison Blumenschein and then go to work and dinner with him.

Prosecutors argued Gonzalez was the only one who had the chance to poison him in the window before he started showing symptoms.
