Man Shoots Couple In Gay Bar With BB Gun While Shouting Bible Verses
Around 10:00 p.m. at a popular Minneapolis gay bar, the Saloon, 43-year-old Wayne Steven Odegard began harassing customers. Tyler Erickson, a security guard at the establishment, said what happened is unlike anything he’s seen in his 5 years of working nightlife security.
[su_center_ad]“Usually our issues are actually on the street, nothing to this extent,” Erickson said.
“He made a disrespectful comment towards the homosexual community, towards a couple that was holding hands and he obviously didn’t appreciate that,” Erickson said.
According to KMSP, It was just after his Odegard started shouting expletives that things escalated. After yelling gay slurs, Odegard allegedly pulled out a CO2 powered BB gun.
“I ran after him and then it ended up he shot a different gay couple in the leg, with that gun and it went through his jeans and drew blood,” Erickson said.
Erickson nabbed him before he could get too far, then arrested him and called police.
“He told me multiple times that I’m going to go to hell and he’s going to bring me with him,” Erickson said. “He recited a biblical passage — I think it’s a deuteronomy passage.”
As for the couple who was shot, Erickson said, “One of them is from Brooklyn and the other from Philadelphia, and they both joked that they came to progressive Minneapolis and got shot for being gay.”
The couple wasn’t seriously injured. Although it wasn’t a real gun, Erickson said the act shouldn’t be taken lightly.
“Even if the guy was shot with the same CO2 powered bb gun in the face it would’ve gone right through his cheek,” he said.
Odegard could face a second-degree assault and gun possession charges, if found guilty.
