A white woman from the heart of the midwest, Uniontown, Ohio, recently discovered that her sperm donor was a black man. Jennifer Cramblett got her donor sperm from the Midwest Sperm Bank and discovered a clerical error about 9 months too late. When the child was born with a complexion just a bit too dark for…

You’re really misrepresenting her complaint here. They love their child and want desperately to raise her in the best environment possible. Unfortunately, as white women, they are ill-equipped to teach a black child about her history, culture, or prepare her for a life facing racism. They want to move to a more diverse neighborhood, where she will have black role models available (neighbors, teachers, babysitters, etc.) and are suing the sperm bank so that they can afford to move.

      Rusty..
      I have to ask..
Does a child born through artificial insemination to a lesbian, (or any other) couple actually have a “history or culture” of any race?, (black, white or otherwise)?
I’m all for couples of any gender raising children..
I just wonder about the racial or cultural significance?
Or if there should be any at all.

Having white parents won’t save the kid when they’re stopped and frisked by a cop. Having white parents won’t make the racial slurs hurled at them go away. Having white parents and an all-white neighborhood won’t provide their child with any role models that look anything like them. Look up the Clark doll experiment sometime if you want to see the importance of positive role models and representation for children of color.

          I understand..
I just wish it wasn’t that way..
Perhaps time will alleviate the racial and gender biases we have to endure.

President Obama seems to be doing fine being a mixed race person.

I have seen too many stories of white people who adopt children of color as status symbols and end up neglecting or abusing them when they find out that they have to deal with racial issues to disparage this couple for attempting to minimize these issues before they arise.

She did pick the race, they made a mistake

It’s not like you would notice anyway, or care for that matter, Dale. Look at your son, Joseph, he’s a shade darker than you isn’t he?

I know not this “Dale” you speak of.

“something that you can’t choose – like being homosexual or being black”
When going to a sperm bank, you can choose race.

“the child was born with a complexion just a bit too dark for her liking”

    Is she a racist?
