Peter Kassig, an Indiana native, is being held by ISIS.

Kassig founded a nongovernmental organization that provided aid for refugees fleeing the civil war in neighboring Syria. But his work in Lebanon led to his capture by militants on Oct. 1, 2013, while en route to eastern Syria.

On Friday, Kassig, 26, appeared in an online video that purported to show a masked militant who threatened to behead the Army veteran next, after the apparent beheading of British hostage Alan Henning…

In a statement issued Friday evening, National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden confirmed that Kassig was being held by Islamic State militants.

β€œAt this point we have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the video released earlier today. We will continue to use every tool at our disposal – military, diplomatic, law enforcement and intelligence – to try to bring Peter home to his family,” Hayden said.[su_csky_ad]

i understand the great desire and need some better angels among us have, to give of themselves to others in great need…it is a beautifully selfless thing…

these people need to get the hell out of there…they cannot be saved, once captured…and, God forgive me, it is not a reason to go to war–these horrific murders do not threaten our national security…and, Saudi Arabia beheaded 19 people last month…what the hell?

    • Budda October 4th, 2014 at 4:11 pm

My position exactly. What are these folks doing over there that gets them captured by these folks? And why are some people so upset when they get beheaded? I know , it is gruesome, but just remember these same people/terrorists see their people disemboweled by our bombs yet we don’t seem as upset about that.

IS aren’t standing up for the “people disemboweled by our bombs,” they want power and authority, and will do anything to get it. They aren’t that much different from the Nazis in Germany, save for the fact that these guys are hiding behind Islam as opposed to Christianity and aren’t gassing people or stuffing them into ovens.

Sorry to say, but there are in fact several plausible reports that ISIS have both gassed their victims and thrown them “alive” into ovens as part of their campaign to bring peace to the areas they conquer.

What’s more you don’t have to go back to WW2 Germany to find similar acts of callous disregard for other human beings who might be perceived as one’s enemy.

I will never understand why ex military think all people in Syria are honest and grateful ? shortly before the invasion of Iraq the Syrian people were saying death to the americans. A short memory didn’t prevail in oct of 2013 nor did it bring him good luck you can only hope everyone else stays the hell out of this country.

Poor guy probably has been beheaded already. These IS thugs need to be blown off the map and into oblivion.

You can’t help people that consider empathy, compassion or sympathy as a weakness. They have lived under the same rules and beliefs long before our Country was formed and we will never convert them to our way of thinking.

maybe the oil lady and her elite friends could chip in some millions of dollars and buy his freedom. That would be one hell of a gesture but…………….
