[su_right_ad]The Colorado woman was denied entry into the pool because she wanted to dress modestly per her religious beliefs.

Saba Ali said that she offered to just wear the shirt and pants to swim on Sunday but was denied.

Commerce City spokeswoman Michelle Halstead says street clothes aren’t allowed in the pool because they can increase the likelihood of contamination and waterborne illness.

A deeply upset Mrs Ali told ABC7: ‘Why do I have to be half-naked to swim? To enjoy my time with my kids?’

The mother rented a hotel room so that she could swim with her children in a private pool.

Ms Halsted said that full body swimsuits and rash guards used by surfers and scuba divers are allowed at the Commerce City recreation center.

The city official said that the staff were not being discriminatory but would also turn away people who wore jean shorts or sports shorts to swim.

However Mrs Ali said that she has worn the same outfit to a public pool before without being prevented from swimming.  [su_csky_ad]

So, there is a solution somewhere between her desire for modesty and the town’s pool regulations, if the pool management is honestly concerned about “contamination and waterborne illness”.

Shoot there is usually so much chlorine in those pools there shouldn’t be a problem. What about the gazillion kids that pee in those pools and waste leaking from those Little Swimmers diapers? If her swim clothes have been laundered, it should be fine….I think people go too overboard sometimes, you are right, there should be a solution. There is no guarantee that anyone in a swimsuit didn’t wear it to the park or to the store before they came in to swim

For what it’s worth, urine generally doesn’t contain pathogens the way excrement does. Some diseases do result in contaminated urine, but people who have them will infect others without having to pee in the pool. As for waste leaking out of diapers, let me assure you that requires the pool to be evacuated and “shocked”.

Actually, that’s not quite true. Here’s the info on it from a science point of view: https://www.sciencenews.org/blog/gory-details/what-happens-when-you-pee-pool http://time.com/45424/no-its-not-safe-to-pee-in-the-pool-says-science/

Apparently you haven’t been to my local Y………….

    • fahvel October 10th, 2014 at 3:45 am

then keep kids and older folks out – they pee in the pool with a mild but blissful expression on their faces.

  2. JeffreyPtr October 9th, 2014 at 2:35 pm

I don’t see what the problem is here. There is swimwear made for specifically for muslims, it covers the body completely. I’m surprised she doesn’t know this or hasn’t taken 30 seconds to google “muslim swimwear”.

If the filtering system is running, there must be water intakes. It is possible that loose clothing could be sucked in and become snagged. I’m not saying it’s likely. But loose clothing and loose hair is strongly discouraged in factories and machine shops for the same reason.

    • AmusedAmused October 9th, 2014 at 3:42 pm

Most pools prohibit loose long hair for that very reason. Some pools even require all long hair to be covered with a swimming cap. It’s a health issue and a liability issue: if her clothing becomes snagged in a filter and she gets injured, she will almost certainly sue the pool for “allowing” her to wear improper and dangerous attire.

  4. rational_thinking_one October 9th, 2014 at 3:27 pm

My religion specifies that I swim in the nude. Is that okay in public, too? Religion is dumb. I wish people would stop doing stupid stuff in the name of purple fairied unicorns!

  5. AmusedAmused October 9th, 2014 at 3:39 pm

Oh, give me a break, “Muslim mom”. There is nothing “discriminatory” about pools requiring proper swimming attire. Especially since there is proper swimming attire fashioned specifically for conservative Muslims: http://www.eastessence.com/islamic-clothing/modest-swimwear/
    There, hope that helps.

not just muslims but xtians have and wear these suits of modesty

  6. liberalmom70 October 9th, 2014 at 10:16 pm

My husband works as a environmental tech for a lab after seeing how they treat pools just hours before he would arrive to test, said we as in his family will never swim in public pools again and we bought our own, being married to a Muslim man they do have modest suits but I’m sure public pools won’t let them wear them there either most I have seen are in the oceans or in Arab countries where women and children have there own pools

  7. Lucius October 10th, 2014 at 8:05 am

More special treatment expected because of religion. Bah!

    • OldLefty October 10th, 2014 at 8:23 am

We don’t know if the special treatment was for or against her.

      • Lucius October 11th, 2014 at 9:34 am

Clearly, she wants special treatment because of her religion. Public pools have protocols. She doesn’t feel the need to abide by them?

        • OldLefty October 11th, 2014 at 9:38 am

Clearly, she wants special treatment because of her religion. Public pools have protocols. She doesn’t feel the need to abide by them?

          __________

That depends upon what the protocols are and what she wanted to wear.

(They have suits that are bathing suits, with long legs)

Lands end makes them with a skirt (for women who a little more coverage), while many men’s trunks are big and baggy.

          Again, it depends.

  8. Mramon October 10th, 2014 at 1:48 pm

Simple solution: Go back to where you came from and stop expecting special treatment
because your a Muslim. I’m so sick of this crap. Don’t like it here? but a one way ticket back home.

    • tracey marie October 10th, 2014 at 2:04 pm

seems you need a ticket to baggerville

    • Cosmic_Surfer October 10th, 2014 at 5:07 pm

So, I guess that holds true of Western Kansas Methodists, Pentecostals, Mormons, Amish, Mennonites… I suspect some Muslims like many of the above referenced peoples may have family that have been in this country longer than your family, unless, of course, you are a Mayflower descendant or Native American.
      Educate yourself

      • Mramon October 10th, 2014 at 5:23 pm

But Western Kansas Methodists, Pentecostals, Mormons, Amish, & Mennonites aren’t beheading people of other religeons, or asking for special treatment when living in another country. Wake up man, Liberals like you are the reason this country is a freaking mess. Now YOU have been educated.

        • Bunya October 11th, 2014 at 8:32 pm

The reason Western Kansas Methodists, Pentecostals, Mormons, Amish, & Mennonites aren’t beheading people of other religions is BECAUSE IT’S AGAINST THE LAW! If we lived under a Christian theocracy, gays would be imprisoned and/or killed, the dress code would revert to that of the 1700’s, and oppression of women would be the standard.

          • Ed White October 20th, 2014 at 10:25 am

Bunya, I suggest you get current,,The Bishops meeting just wrote a letter to the pope asking that gays be accepted in the church for all the positive aspects gays bring with them, Gay marriage as well.

          • Bunya October 21st, 2014 at 10:16 am

I said that if THIS country were theocratically governed, we’d be just like Iran. As for the pope, talk is cheap. I don’t take everything the pope says at face value. Why? St. John’s School for the Deaf.

  9. tracey marie October 10th, 2014 at 2:04 pm

You may adapt or get a pool in your yard. No more religioous nonsense will be catered to from any Religion, period.

  10. Betty Caron October 10th, 2014 at 7:51 pm

I consider myself very Liberal, but I think she should follow the rules of the pool and dress accordingly. Either don’t go in the pool and watch from the sidelines, or get your own pool at home. It’s a private pool and they can have any rules they want.

  11. Morgan Sheridan October 11th, 2014 at 2:25 am

There is another way. There are swim suits made specifically for the ‘modesty’ market and public pools should allow their use. So, in these cases, the pools can give the patron an educational pamphlet about the modesty swimsuits. The ‘modesty market’ exists with orthodox Jewish women, the purity culture Quiverfull families, and others.
