This is really pathetic. Alison Lundergan Grimes, looking to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, thinks it’s to her advantage to refuse answering this simple question. Grimes was talking to the Louisville Courier-Journal editorial board and repeated, “It’s my name” on the ballot ad nauseam.

[su_center_ad]

This is is the kind of thing that hurts Democrats. Running away from President Obama is not going to help. Or, if you did vote for the president and then decided that you have more differences than you originally thought, just say so.[su_csky_ad]

43 responses to Kentucky Democratic Senate Candidate Won’t Say If She Voted For Obama

  1. NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 10:24 am

Actually, what hurts Democrats are people like you Mr. Colmes. Whether or not ALG supports Obama isn’t an issue, the issues are minimum wage, jobs, affordable student loans, the list goes on and on. Mitch is desperate, which is why he’s baiting ALG like this. Politics is about winning, and allowing the Terrapin to win because ALG won’t go on the record as voting/not voting for Obama is monumentally STUPID!

  2. William October 10th, 2014 at 10:25 am

Good for her. Whatever lever we pull or block we check in the voting booth is no one else’s business.

  3. R.J. Carter October 10th, 2014 at 10:28 am

Alice in Wonderland Grimes actually says she opposes Obama in her ads, and that she supports the coal industry.
Her staff, however, says that she’s lying about that to get elected.

    • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 10:29 am

Excellent job in admitting you believe BS from Jimmy O’Keefe.

      • R.J. Carter October 10th, 2014 at 10:29 am

Yeah, that James O’Keefe is the bestest ventriloquist in the whole world.

        • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 10:30 am

So when is he going to bait ALG into getting into a boat with sex toys, as he tried to do with a female CNN anchor a few years back?

          • R.J. Carter October 10th, 2014 at 11:05 am

What does that have to do with the words that come out of the mouths of ALG’s staffers?

          • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 11:18 am

It’s coming from the mouth of James O’Keefe, a known liar who did try to seduce a CNN anchor into one of his boats full of sex toys. That you choose to believe it is telling.

          • R.J. Carter October 10th, 2014 at 11:30 am

I hear words with my own ears, I see mouths moving with my own eyes, and you’re telling me not to believe it. THAT is what’s telling.

          • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 11:39 am

The story about ALG’s staffers originated with a cut-and-edited video from James O Keefe. How do I know this? Skydog2 cited the Washington Free Beacon mentioning it which linked to the James O’Keefe video. You’re choosing to believe lies that originated with a man who attempted to seduce a female CNN anchor onto a boat filled with sex toys, which again, is telling.

          • R.J. Carter October 10th, 2014 at 12:05 pm

So you’re falling back on the old “cut and edited” video meme? Because the video didn’t start from the loading of the tape, the walking of the investigator, the bathroom breaks, leaving the building, and unloading the tape, it’s therefore “cut and edited” and therefore invalid?

          • arc99 October 10th, 2014 at 12:08 pm

since that was the truth of his big claim to fame with ACORN, why is it not reasonable to conclude he is simply doing what he always does? so yes, O Keefe’s videos are bunch of invalid bullsh*t until proven otherwise.

          • arc99 October 10th, 2014 at 12:09 pm

and it is not just a “meme”, it is what this a$$hole does all the time.

          • arc99 October 10th, 2014 at 12:05 pm

O Keefe has a history of editing his videos to portray a narrative that is not what actually happened. O Keefe is a documented liar. If you want to believe his latest video lies, go right ahead. What it tells me is that if otherwise reasonable conservatives believe this garbage, no wonder the American right is in a death spiral. enjoy 2014. It just might be the GOP’s last stand,

O Keefe was instrumental in the destruction of ACORN which was doing outstanding work in many poor and minority communities including Oakland CA where I lived for ears.

The man is scum and I hope his death comes soon and painfully. F*ck him.

Meanwhile, let us take a trip down memory lane with Mr. O Keefe and his previous lies.

His work eliminating ACORN is probably his finest achievement (if not for the fact that ACORN is still around — same nut, different name).
Meanwhile, wishing for a quick and painful death is rather disturbing.

          • arc99 October 10th, 2014 at 12:25 pm

you clearly have no idea what ACORN was or did. .

they might have saved the country from the mortgage meltdown.

what the scumbag did to an organization that was nothing but good for the community I lived in, that is what is disturbing to put it mildly.

please educate yourself. If eliminating an organization like this, using deceptively edited videos is his “finest achievement” then the man is in fact scum.

The grassroots group helped Oakland pass a tough anti-predatory lending law that would have halted the housing crisis before it started. Then subprime lenders started making campaign contributions in Sacramento.

          • arc99 October 10th, 2014 at 12:29 pm

His pack of lies eliminating ACORN is probably his finest achievement

            there, fixed it for you.

            you’re welcome.

“ACORN which was doing outstanding work in many poor and minority communities”

If the KKK ran a soup kitchen they’d still should be put out of business

“hope his death comes soon and painfully. F*ck him”

            Wow

          • arc99 October 11th, 2014 at 12:35 am

anybody comparing ACORN to the KKK, demonstrates one thing and one thing only. they have no idea what they are talking about.

so wow, right back at you. my rhetoric is no different than the hateful bile directed towards the President and liberals every damn day on talk radio, so please spare me the self-righteous phoney indignation.

O Keefe was instrumental in the destruction of an organization that despite your asinine analogy, did not advocate denial of rights or equality or discrimination against anyone. they worked in many areas including assisting people with low-income housing, and yes registering to vote. Living in Oakland for years, I saw some of the benefits of their work in my community.

What would you say about someone intentionally lied about an organization whose work benefits ALL the people in your community, and that lie destroys that organization?

  4. cvryder2000 October 10th, 2014 at 10:30 am

A person’s vote is PRIVATE and even a candidate, of either party, is under no obligation whatever to disclose who s/he has voted for in the past. The campaign is on the ISSUES!

  5. Skydog2 October 10th, 2014 at 10:40 am

In a close election, awkward moments like this can cause a candidate to lose.

    • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 10:41 am

If it boils down to whether a candidate likes Obama or not, then voters are even more stupid than I thought. Why should the issue be ALG voting/not voting for Obama, as opposed to jobs, raising the minimum wage, making student loans more affordable?

      • Skydog2 October 10th, 2014 at 10:48 am

Why can’t the issues be all of the above? You should vote on the issues important to you; others will do the same.

        • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 10:52 am

You can’t vote the issues, because issues aren’t politics. Politics is about winning, and this point, I care more about winning, and ALG is at least amenable to progressive causes. If it takes her denying Obama three times in KY to defeat the Terrapin, so be it. The Terrapin is THE problem for the record amount of obstructionism we’ve seen since Obama took office, and he needs to go.

          • R.J. Carter October 10th, 2014 at 11:07 am

Translation: Lying to dupe voters is okay when it’s helping one of ours. Nice.

          • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 11:17 am

Not what I said, but excellent job in demonstrating stupidity.

  6. Skydog2 October 10th, 2014 at 10:54 am

CHUCK TODD: “The idea of — I’m sorry even to say you regret your vote that would almost seem as disingenuous. But that is — can Kentuckyians expect her to cast a tough vote on anything? Is she ever going to answer a tough question on anything? You want to be a U.S. Senator? If you can’t say — if you can’t find a way to stand behind your party’s president, you can disagree with him but can’t answer that basic question and come across looking ridiculous. I think she disqualified herself.”

    • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 10:56 am

This is the same Chuck Todd who said President Obama didn’t mention Syria after Obama mentioned Syria, I don’t know FOUR TIMES!!!!

      https://twitter.com/Arianna8927/status/509209619315822592

The fact that you’re citing him to discredit ALG even further convinces me she handled the question appropriately.

  7. Skydog2 October 10th, 2014 at 11:05 am

WaPo: “Of course she voted for him! Dodging the question looks like she’s trying to hide her position, which is never the face you want to show — particularly when conservatives are accusing her of hiding her positions on other things.”

    http://freebeacon.com/politics/grimes-staffers-suggest-kentucky-dem-lies-about-coal-support/

    • arc99 October 10th, 2014 at 11:53 am

conservatives are always accusing people of hiding things.

what conservatives are hiding in Kentucky is that the Kynect health insurance program which is arguably the most successful one of its kind in the country, is very popular in Kentucky, and would not exist without Obamacare.

It is Ms. Lundergan Grimes’ fault that she fails to point this out to the people of that state.

conservatives also have to hide the blatant hypocrisy over their cries of outrage about people losing health insurance because their plans did not meet minimum ACA standards, as they continue to insist that the ACA be repealed. In Kentucky alone, over 400,000 people would lose their insurance. if conservatives are so concerned about people losing insurance, why are they still advocating repeal of the ACA which would do exactly that. the complaints from earlier this year about people losing insurance were nothing more than the usual right wing lies of opportunity. people losing insurance is just fine, when it suits the right wing agenda.

Here, McConnell lies and pretends that there would be some way to repeal the ACA and keep Kynect. Even Republicans realize the ACA is working. They are simply too dishonest to admit it.

      http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/05/28/mitch-mcconnell-s-big-obamacare-kynect-lie.html

McConnell took three questions on the Affordable Care Act and how its repeal would affect the 413,000 Kentuckians who now have insurance through the state exchange, Kynect. The first question asked how he would respond to those who say repeal would take away the health care of 413,000 Kentuckians, to which McConnell launched into his standard answer that Obamacare was raising premiums, raising deductibles, and killing jobs, concluding, “It was a big mistake, we ought to pull it out root and branch and start over.”

      • forpeace October 10th, 2014 at 1:29 pm

Because conservatives can hear imaginary voices in their heads.

  8. BillTheCat45 October 10th, 2014 at 11:06 am

yeh sadly at this point I could care less if she wins, she is a complete DINO, running from the President and healthcare. She’ll lose because of both denials.

    • NW10 October 10th, 2014 at 11:16 am

There are no such things as DINOs.

And you could care less? Do you really want six more years of the Terrapin in the Senate?

      • BillTheCat45 October 10th, 2014 at 11:48 am

Um, wow, dude, I’m a hard core liberal/democrat, and I can gaurantee you, there are DINO’s, face reality. They aren’t as prevalent as RINO’s but they exsist. I want McConnell out as much as anyone (I loathe him) but EVERYONE is SICK to death of Grimes running from good policies and denying our President.

        • mea_mark October 10th, 2014 at 1:19 pm

Alison Grimes is a shift in the correct direction and I bet once elected will do a lot better than you think.

          • BillTheCat45 October 10th, 2014 at 1:33 pm

I agree, but she should stop pretending to not be a democrat.

      • linkeditin October 11th, 2014 at 12:11 pm

You are a MORON. Grimes is the Sec’ry of State and the Democrat Governor implemented KYNECT which 500,000 people signed up for.

  9. OldLefty October 10th, 2014 at 11:06 am

It’s a shame, because she is dealing with people who LOVE KyNect, HATE Obamacare, and don’t know they are the same thing.

Kentucky voters hate Obama over coal, yet, McConnell’s wife, sits on the board of directors of Bloomberg Philanthropies, which has plunged $50 million into the Sierra Club’s “Beyond Coal” initiative, an advocacy effort with the expressed goal of killing the coal industry. The organization boasts that it has “prevented 150 coal plants from being built,” and has taken direct action against 16 plants in McConnell’s homestate of Kentucky, arguing that coal production is a health hazard and is harmful to the environment, while the Obama administration has cut the industry a break on numerous pollution and safety rules.

That Mitch isn’t blowing ALG out of the water at this point is troubling for him, hence why he’s tried to bait her like this.

      • Skydog2 October 11th, 2014 at 2:33 am

The above video clip had nothing to do with McConnel baiting Grimes, she “was talking to the Louisville Courier-Journal editorial board.”

  11. forpeace October 10th, 2014 at 11:27 am

I do not know if it is mandatory for candidates to mention which presidential candidate they have voted for in the past elections, and I do not know why she refuses to answer the question, But, that should not have any affect in her election.

Everyone knows Alison Lundergan Grimes is a Blue Dog Democrat. More importantly any smart and intelligent person knows that Alison Lundergan Grimes was a two-time delegate to the Democratic National Convention, supporting Hillary Clinton in 2008 and Barack Obama in 2012.

I do not live in Kentucky, but financiallyI have supported Alison Lundergan Grimes because as much as I I’m not fond of “Blue Dog Democrats,” but I will take any of them over candidates such as Mitch McConnell who has been in U.S. Congress for 29+ years and hasn’t even bother to fix the roads and bridges in his own home state Kentucky because Mitch has been busy profiting from Trades with China, and helping the poor in China for a long time.
No one has ever asked Mitch McConnell why he and his wife are members of an Organization In China to help the Poor Workers in China while he doesn’t even help the Poor In Kentucky.

Mitch McConnell represents the Chinese made products via his wife Elaine Chao who has been a lobbyist for China’s Trade with the U.S. since she was the anti-Labor Secretary in George W. Bush’s Administration for 8 years, and his father-in-law who made his fortune in shipping Communist Chinese-made goods to the USA.

Elaine Chao sits on the board of a group working to kill the coal industry, and she lobbied for Trade with her birthland China and with the help of Mitch McConnell in the Senate is sure to mean a loss for American workers. And because of that Mitch received a “Gift” worth up to $25 million from his father-in-law.
