Murrieta Mayor Alan Long, a stanch and vocal opponent to the recent undocumented immigration of children on the border, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving on Thursday night after a crash that injured four high school cheerleaders, including one who remained hospitalized Friday, according to officials.

[su_center_ad]Long, who is in the midst of a re-election campaign, posted $50,000 bail and was released from custody, according to UT San Diego.

The four Murrieta Valley High School students were headed home from a pep rally when a full-size truck driven by Long collided into the back of their car on Jefferson Avenue, a few blocks from the school, shortly after 8:15 p.m., Murrieta police Lt. Ron Driscoll said. The injured girls, ranging in age from 14 to 17, were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Murrieta Valley Unified School District spokeswoman Karen Parris declined to offer any specifics regarding the injuries suffered by the fourth girl, who was still receiving treatment.

KESQ reports:

Long was not injured. Driscoll said the mayor “had signs and symptoms consistent with alcohol impairment.” A field sobriety test was conducted, confirming that Long “was, in fact, impaired,” according to Driscoll.

The suspect was booked without incident.

The mayor, in his first four-year term on the Murrieta City Council, is running for re-election. He is a battalion chief for the Anaheim Fire Department.

At this point, everything is normal and there is no change in his work status,” Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn, who handles public affairs for the
fire department, told City News Service. “We will be monitoring the investigation.”

Long led a local backlash against the arrival of undocumented Central American children fleeing from violence in their country into the U.S. border. Long’s actions resulted in a  group of angry protesters showing up to block the arrival of buses carrying the undocumented minors to a facility, forcing the caravan to turn around, in an ugly display which garnered national attention. [su_csky_ad]

Yes and no. I bet we have just as much in common as we do differences. However, I was not smart enough to wait to get married – that would have just made too much sense.

July 6, 2014, the mayor of Murrietta Alan Long said that residents are worried whether the U.S. Border Patrol could safely house the immigrants including many children at its Murrieta facility. “We had some local residents with some legitimate concerns. I think most of the angry people you saw were from out of town.” Long also pushed back against criticism that his town is getting over the protests.

“What I’m telling you right now, if those buses were to arrive here tomorrow, and enter the Border Patrol facility, you would see what Murrieta is known for. And that is a caring, compassionate community,” he said.

    Dear Mayor Alan Long,

The Murrietta’s residents should have legitimate concerns, and should be be more worried about their own Mayor who has been arrested on DUI charges after crashing into carload of high school students who are the residents own children. And now we know Murrietta is known for its drunken Mayor.
