Video of Texas Cop Shooting Family Dog Sparks Investigation
Amanda Henderson and her husband’s beloved dog was shot and killed by Cleburne police. “I see a murder,” The Texas woman said after seeing a video of the incident. “I see him murdering my puppy, our family.”
[su_center_ad]It August police responded to a report of Henderson’s pit bulls aggressively roaming the neighborhood. They’d escaped from her fenced-in backyard, according to WYFF.
When the three dogs were located, the officer said a 7-month-old Maximus started growling and coming towards the him so he shot him dead.
The story didn’t make sense to Henderson, because she says Max was so friendly. So she requested the video from the lapel camera worn by the officer.
In a news release issued Friday, two months after the dog was shot, police spokeswoman Kelly Summey said, “The city is obviously concerned about the video showing an officer shooting a dog. As is often the case, the short video does not tell the whole story.”
Cleburne Mayor Scott Cain said that the video was “bad” and an internal investigation is underway.
“Obviously, the video is very disturbing, and I am very upset about the video,” he said. “We want to hear the officer’s statement as well as statements from witnesses, but I can assure you that if action needs to be taken, that it will be swift.”
According to the Star-Telegram, when asked why information was released in October when the shooting took place in August, Cain said, “That is something I would like to know.”

It is ridiculous for an investigation of this to take so long.
I couldn’t see anything on the cop video, and there is no footage of what neighbors said was aggressive behavior by the dogs. My guess is the neighbors got tired of these dogs getting out so someone called the cops.
One thing I do see in the reporter’s footage is the mother telling the dog repeatedly to sit and the dog doesn’t obey.
So we have 4 pit bulls who have not been trained by owners who do not keep their dogs in their yard. They got out and one got killed by a cop.
Not justifying what the cop did, I can’t see anything from the video to say one way or another. But that dog could have just as easily been run over by a car.
Even if the cop is wrong, that does not absolve the owners from abrogation of their responsibility.
I bet the smell coming from that back yard where 4 dogs are pooping is not welcomed by the neighbors, either. ……

Sorry folks, i love dogs but I’m with the cop on this one. I used to work for a municipal utility company years ago and let me tell you…pit bulls are like a Terminator bear trap. They are all muscle and teeth and once they start attacking and biting…that’s it. I had a few co-workers attacked by them and not one ever came back to work either out of mental trauma or severe injuries. The fact that this woman’s “puppy” (c’mon, does THAT look like a puppy?!) escaped and was running loose in the streets means all bets are off. Regardless of how “friendly it was”—If one of these dogs had attacked or killed a child or elderly person, then what?
It’s hard to see the dog wagging it’s tail (the damn news caption obstructs) but if I were wearing a uniform (which dogs seem to have an aversion to) and the pit started growling at me, you’d be damn sure I’d have my gun out and ready.
There’s a huge responsibility owning one of these, and her lack of oversight cost her.
