On CNN, host Candy Crowley on Sunday interviewed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and asked about how the sequester hurt funding for the Centers for Disease Control and how the National Rifle Association’s opposition to President Obama’s nominee for surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, also hurt the response to the Ebola virus.

[su_center_ad]Republicans in the Senate had blocked the appointment of Dr. Vivek Murthy and Cruz still points to President Obama as the problem.

“We haven’t had a Surgeon General — who is the nation’s leading public health official, at least the voice of it — for a year. Some Democrats and some Republicans had opposed the particular surgeon general the president had nominated. Do you think it would have helped,” Crowley remarked.

“Of course we should have a surgeon general in place,” Cruz said.. “And we don’t have one because President Obama, instead of nominating a health professional, he nominated someone who is an anti-gun activist.”

“And a doctor,” Crowley said.

Cruz said that while it’s true Murphy is a doctor, he’s also a “crusader against second amendment rights.”

The NRA, the nation’s largest gun rights lobby, has continually refused to allow any measures to implement gun sense laws even to the point of leaving this country without a surgeon general — but it’s Obama’s fault somehow.

Of course he would take this stance, he only answers to his constituents, which would be gun nuts and the nra.

    • Larry Schmitt October 19th, 2014 at 3:58 pm

Make that christian gun nuts and the nra.

      • Robert Galloway October 19th, 2014 at 4:25 pm

I this country scraps or guts the second amendment I wish the traitors who bring it about and those who elected them in Hell. I spent 22 years sworn to protect and defend. I want a refund.

        • edmeyer_able October 19th, 2014 at 4:33 pm

No one is going to do either one to the 2A, but I have 3 questions for you. Why do you oppose a bill that would require liability insurance on your guns? Why do you not support mandatory safe storage if there are children in a gun household. And 3 why do wish eternal damnation for people who want these things?

          • whatthe46 October 19th, 2014 at 5:30 pm

you know darn well those questions make to much sense for him to answer.

I’m just giving him more rope w/which to hang himself.

Hanging? Please don’t. Life is worth living.

          • Robert Galloway October 19th, 2014 at 8:25 pm

Oh, what part of that don’t I understand?

          • Robert Galloway October 19th, 2014 at 8:24 pm

These people (the ones upon you note I wish eternal damnation)

are avowed enemies of what the founding fathers bequeathed. My two favorite historical figures are Patrick Henry – give me liberty or give me death. Benjamin Franklin – He who would sacrifice an essential liberty for a little temporary security (I paraphrase) ,deserve neither liberty nor security. The folks currently in control in this country want absolute control. You may differ. We now are getting an Ebola Czar. Thinks that’s going away. I’ve known a number of infectious disease specialist and hospital commanders. I’d much rather trust them than the “Ebola Czar” that we don’t need. I watched the funeral courtage for JFK. Wasn’t but a moment before we had Thomas Dodd giving us the “Be Afraid, Very Afraid” routine that is the hallmark of the American Left. I am, as you might guess, a member of the “Cold Dead Hands” group. I wish eternal damnation because they are mortal enemies of the United States as I said, I swore to protect and defend.

          • Larry Schmitt October 19th, 2014 at 8:42 pm

Yes, the Ebola czar goes away when the threat goes away. You are welcome to your guns and your cold dead hands.

Better you should be a member of the cold dead head society as you speak in circles. Try putting one coherent thought into one comment rather than the word salad s you spew.

          • Candide Thirtythree October 20th, 2014 at 8:02 am

He is not speaking English, he is speaking Teabonics and no one here is fluent enough in word salad to understand what he is trying to say but we know it is not good!

          • Robert Galloway October 19th, 2014 at 8:47 pm

We hear so much about how “Voter ID” would be discriminatory against low income. You don’t seem to think these same people deserve access to self defense. Where do most of our firearms crimes/murders occur?

          • Chinese Democracy October 19th, 2014 at 10:40 pm

thats not what I hear so much about. I hear that conservatives know their Voter laws are discriminatory and know that its a solution in search of a problem.

Heres a good defense. Make guns harder to get your hands on

        • mea_mark October 19th, 2014 at 4:36 pm

It doesn’t need to be scrapped, it just needs to be interpreted better. Let’s get back to well regulated and update it to reflect modern firearms and the fact that we live in a densely populated world. Things have changed since the 1700’s.

What the hell are you talking about? You haven’t seen anyone on any thread on this site talking about “scrapping the 2nd amendment.” What people here have a problem with is the nra-sponsored proliferation of guns, without any sensible laws to regulate the safety or keep them out of the wrong hands, such as mentally unstable and kids. And you, apparently. So stfu.

          • Robert Galloway October 19th, 2014 at 8:40 pm

I’ve made a number of anti gun control comments. I’m rabidly anti gun control. Because, who is going to enforce same? I have 0 % faith in our federal to reasonable enforce such. I really have 0% faith in our federal government to go anything well. Prove me wrong…

Where’d you get that idea? I was pointing out the fact that the majority of the followers of Cruz are phony christians who are convinced that the libruls are out to get their guns.

          • Robert Galloway October 19th, 2014 at 8:35 pm

Don’t recall I mentioned “Phony Christians”. Liberals have supported gun control as long as I remember. Jews and Christians have contribute about everything that makes life in the United States worth living. I’ve had an Israeli friend who’s suggested that an “Armed Society is a Polite Society”. I’d much rather go into a bar where everybody is “packin” than on with a “gun free zone” notice.

          • Larry Schmitt October 19th, 2014 at 8:40 pm

I was the one who mentioned phony christians. And I still don’t know where you got the impression that I have a problem with jews and christians. You’re entitled to your belief that guns make people polite (scared would be a better word for it) but I think they can be polite without guns too. And of course we all know how well guns and alcohol mix.

          • searambler October 19th, 2014 at 11:00 pm

Then you’re an idiot, Bob. Tell me, what does “A well regulated militia” mean to you? Do you believe that any US citizen should be able to own any type of “arms” they can get their hands on? That felons and the mentally challenged should be allowed to own Uzis and fully automatic machine guns? That gang members should be able to own bazookas? Or grenade launchers? Be honest here. Because the assholes who think that “gun control” is a bad thing are fucking hypocrites if they think that these arms or these people should NOT be allowed. The Constitution says nothing about the restrictions we already have put in place on who can own what. So if you agree with these restrictions, then you support gun control.

          • fahvel October 20th, 2014 at 4:05 am

isn’t that what an elected official is supposed to do? If they just self agarandize they don’t represent their public – regardless of how ill informed poorly educated and terrified the mass may be – ya gotta obey them that got ya elected.

  2. Obewon October 19th, 2014 at 3:17 pm

‘GOP’s unanimous obstructionism is Obama’s fault’-Ted I bet many Ebola-paranoids in Dallas today wished they’d never heard of, or had ever seen your psychotic lameass excuses for their supposedly smart senate “leader.”

  3. forpeace October 19th, 2014 at 3:24 pm

The only thing the Canadian Ted Rafael Cruz cannot blame on President Obama is the fact that Ted is one of so many ignorant and dumb Right-Wing members.

GOTPers were the ones suggesting the “Ebola Czar” and now they are blocking his nomination. Ted Rafael Cruz said: Obama’s surgeon general pick isn’t a “health professional” because he’s “anti-gun.” He accused President Barack Obama’s pick for surgeon general of not being a “health care professional” because the doctor had backed a ban on military-style assault rifles.

I’ve never heard them suggesting an “AIDS Czar” when there was an AIDS epidemic spreading in the 1980s during Ronald Reagan administration.

    • Linda1961 October 19th, 2014 at 5:04 pm

I thought the idea behind the “Czars” was that the Senate wouldn’t be involved, and that is why the gop hates Obama’s “Czars,” even though all presidents since Nixon have done this,

      • bhil October 20th, 2014 at 10:11 am

“Czar” isn’t that a Russian thing doing a riff on the Roman Caesar?

  7. Linda1961 October 19th, 2014 at 5:02 pm

You gotta admire Cruz’ restraint – he could have blamed Obama for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the outbreak of the Black Death in Asia and Europe in the 14th century.

    • arc99 October 19th, 2014 at 5:43 pm

My sources tell me that Cruz actually did blame the President for the crucifixion of Christ, and the black death in a series of Tweets last week. But his PAC told him he had better save those accusations for a campaign against Hilary in 2016. No need to use up all those delusional lies against someone who is no longer a potential candidate.

So the Tweets were quickly deleted and scrubbed from his website.

  9. Suzanne Longo October 19th, 2014 at 8:56 pm

Ted Cruz, man about town, is afraid of a doctor. All the man has said, is he thinks MD’s should be able to ask if there are guns in a home. How many suicides might that question stop? How many murder-suicides might that question stop? Maybe one should be good enough. I have had a doctor ask me this question and I never thought anything about it until I read Dr.Murthy nomination was held up by the NRA, who basically owns the GOP. Why does the media always ask what Ted Cruz thinks? He has the same answer for every question: It’s Obama’s fault.

  10. OldLefty October 19th, 2014 at 9:42 pm

He believes he’s the smartest one in the room, which of course means he’s not. And he believes voters are stupid, hence his act. Meanwhile, unless Goldman Sachs health insurance doesn’t cover Ebola, he’s got his.

even though i’m from there, i agree…but first we need to verify that cruz is still here, plenty of people want to ‘cruz-ify’ him…and of course let’s not forget, it’s not makin’ him into a martyr, it’s a form of severe punishment, long overdue 😀

  14. infectious_d October 20th, 2014 at 10:14 am

lol like having a Surgeon General would have done sh** to help…the dangers of ebola have been addressed quite some time ago, there isn’t much information to update people on, unless it’s mode of transmission changed, there’s nothing else to say other than “get to a hospital” :p

  15. ave ngangel October 20th, 2014 at 8:22 pm

Writing in theJournal of the American Medical Association in 1992, he called gun violence “a public-health emergency” and proposed that owning and operating a firearm carry with it the same restrictions as owning and operating a car. – C. Everett Koop, Reagan’s Surgeon General

    Called gun-related violence “a public-health problem in addition to being a criminal-justice problem.” – Louis W. Sullivan, 41’s Sec. HHS, confirmed 98-1

“As Surgeon General, Dr. Murthy’s impressive track record of accomplishments as an innovative and well-respected thought leader in healthcare will prove invaluable to the American people…
The office of surgeon general requires a strong and thoughtful leader who can navigate political pressures to champion health promotion for the American People, and Dr, Murthy has proven his capabilities in that capacity. We need a Surgeon General who can connect with people across generations, cultures and political persuasions to empower Americans to take responsibility for and improve their health. I feel that Dr. Murthy meets all of these qualifications superbly. – David Satcher, Clinton and GWB Surgeon General, The Satcher Health Leadership Institute, 2/3/14

    • roooth October 21st, 2014 at 11:39 pm

But the NRA doesn’t like him! And nothing else matters to asshole Republicans.

Face it, if anything could get through to the gun nuts, the thousands of children who are shot each year should do it, especially when we keep having to bury our children who die because of gun shots wounds.

The fact that even the deaths of thousands of Americans every single year cannot reach the gun nuts is all you need to know about what malignant sociopaths they are.

Think about it – if any foreign terrorists slaughtered thousands of Americans every single year, we’d be at war with them, wouldn’t we? But when it’s ignorant douchebag white bigots who decide they have the right to kill the rest of us we’re all supposed to shut up and pretend we don’t see it or the NRA will get pissy. And NRA big mouth, Wayne LaPierre, is a man who is willing to get very pissy for that million dollars plus he gets paid to keep politicians quiet about the deaths of our children.

More American children will die from gunshot wounds this year than they will from ISIS OR Ebola – but there will be no hysteria from Republicans to do anything about the biggest threat our kids face – not Ebola, not ISIS, nope, the NRA is a far more deadly threat to Americans – and Congress is aiding and abetting them, no matter how many Americans are shot..

ISIS is less of a threat to the average American school student than the NRA.

Cruz reminds me of a bully tripping somebody then bitching at them for being clumsy….and people actually elected him…..amazing.
