[su_right_ad]Former head of Operation Rescue and head of the current Operation Save America thinks he’s saving America by crashing gay weddings in North Carolina.

The North Carolina-based pastor, who is the father of Religious Right activists David and Jason Benham, reportedly disrupted several weddings at the Mecklenburg County and Courts Office in Charlotte last week.

Benham’s group, which in July disrupted a memorial service at a Unitarian Universalist congregation in New Orleans, “interrupted several couples’ weddings as supporters held up a large rainbow flag to block his view,” according to the North Carolina LGBT publication Q Notes. “Another protester waved a bible in the air as he screamed several profanities and vulgarities.”

The Charlotte Observer also captured Benham’s protest outside the courthouse:

Sue his pants off. That’s all they understand. Hopefully he’ll do something to get himself thrown in jail. Speaking of suing, the WBC has been remarkably quiet lately.

With his behavior, I’m sure it’s the worst. No doubt saving seats for the likes of Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Cheney, Rumsfeld – come to think of it, he’s gonna need a stadium to fit all the righties heading his way…..

True that! When all is said and done, they’re going to wish that they were atheists and didn’t believe in all that crap.

as for me–I’m with Willie Nelson–“Roll me up and smoke me when I die”…

There are no hungry people he can feed? No homeless he can house? No sick he can comfort? Nope. Looks like this loser’s job now is to trash gays, since terrorizing women in crisis didn’t work out too well for him.

That’s socialism!!!!! Something Jesus promoted that todays Christians conveniently forgot.

      • Spirit of America October 21st, 2014 at 12:31 am

Jesus’ teachings don’t promote socialism, or any particular type of government. He dealt with the individual, how each person should live, which includes charity, helping others, treat others well regardless, etc.

        • androgyne anode October 21st, 2014 at 1:55 am

Pretty sure that loaves and fishes nonsense was socialist. He didn’t even charge anyone for that stuff.

          Stupid commie.

          • Spirit of America October 21st, 2014 at 2:02 am

Socialism is a form of government. In the story you reference, he himself(the individual) provided for the masses, not any government.

So you have no cause to call him stupid or a commie.

          • androgyne anode October 21st, 2014 at 2:14 am

No, socialism is not a form of government. It is an economic model. Socialism can exist even in a society with no government – such as libertarian socialism (the polite word for classical anarchism)

As far as my post, your snark detector is off.

I figured calling him a “stupid commie” and complaining that he didn’t charge would have clued you in. My mistake.

            Signed,
            an anarcho-communist.

          • Spirit of America October 21st, 2014 at 2:27 am

As long as we are getting detailed, socialism is actually an economic and social system combined w/a political system for implementation.
Still need a form of government.

“As far as my post, your snark detector is off”
            Irony, I love it. I was being sarcastic w/the ‘…no cause…’ sentence.
            🙂

          • androgyne anode October 21st, 2014 at 2:33 am

No, it’s not a political system. Socialism is largely agnostic to political systems. That’s why it can exist in a republic, a democracy, or even absent government altogether, such as anarchist communes.

You’re talking to a socialist. In fact the *REASON* most anarchists are socialists is because it’s one of the only economic models that readily adapts to existing absent a state or a centralized government of any kind.

          • Spirit of America October 21st, 2014 at 2:43 am

You may want to bone up on the definition/practice then, and here I’m not being ‘snarky’. Socialism needs a government of type to ensure the equal distribution of goods and services that ‘all’ own. It could not exist w/out a government.

          • androgyne anode October 21st, 2014 at 3:14 am

No it doesn’t, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Unlike you I *have* done my reading, and I’m also well aware of both the current and historical evidence that directly contradicts you.

Ignorance and arrogance are an extremely unflattering combination.

          • Spirit of America October 21st, 2014 at 8:45 am

Then by all means, shed both.

          • androgyne anode October 21st, 2014 at 11:21 am

            Projection.

          • Dwendt44 October 21st, 2014 at 2:04 pm

Jesus was a socialist for sure and a liberal to boot. He started the organized communalism practice that became communism.

          • androgyne anode October 21st, 2014 at 2:09 pm

I don’t disagree, at least if we were to take the gospels at face value. He’s pretty clear on community.

        • williamedward October 21st, 2014 at 2:17 pm

” which includes charity, helping others, treat others well regardless, etc.”, Jeez buddy, what else IS socialism? This is socialism, just what Jesus preached. Fool!

          • Spirit of America October 21st, 2014 at 5:59 pm

No, you’re not a fool just because you have it a tad wrong.
Jesus didn’t teach economics, Jesus didn’t teach gov 101, he taught how the individual, not the collective, but the individual should conduct oneself.
If ‘being charitable’ is ‘socialism’, then why would anyone complain when people call Obama a socialist, he donates every year to charities as do most politicians, regardless of party?
If ‘treating others well’ is ‘socialism’, then why would anyone complain when people call Obama a socialist, he just brought 4 boxes of doughnuts to a campaign hq, which I thought was a nice gesture?

          • williamedward October 21st, 2014 at 7:19 pm

            Whatever you think.

        • williamedward October 21st, 2014 at 7:37 pm

So you think healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and housing the homeless is charity? Ok.

          • Spirit of America October 21st, 2014 at 7:59 pm

            So does merriam-webster:
“the act of giving money, food, or other kinds of help to people who are poor, sick, etc.”
When done w/out expectation of payback, that is the definition of charity.

          • williamedward October 29th, 2014 at 7:12 pm

So if I give to someone, it’s charity. If Jesus gives, it’s divine intervention, but if government gives, that’s socialism, even though it’s the same thing. Thanks for straightening this out.

          • Spirit of America October 30th, 2014 at 12:03 pm

“So if I give to someone, it’s charity” – Yes

“If Jesus gives, it’s divine intervention,” – No, it is charity.

“but if government gives, that’s socialism” – Government takes from some to give to others is, yes, socialism.

“even though it’s the same thing” – Hopefully you now see they are not the same thing…

“Thanks for straightening this out” – np-mp

          • williamedward November 1st, 2014 at 12:27 am

You are incorrect, sir. Jesus is not here in the present. He IS Divine. Sorry but it is all the same.

          • Spirit of America November 1st, 2014 at 5:28 am

Sorry, but I don’t follow your meaning. I know some think he is divine, and I know he’s not here physically today, but I’m not sure I said anything to the contrary. My fault I’m sure, but could you explain a bit more what you mean?

I’m just wondering if N.C. has SYG laws? Oh, the irony of his getting shot while spouting his bible based hatred.

  7. tracey marie October 20th, 2014 at 3:52 pm

I do believe it is time for the GLBT community and their friends to start crashing all the wedding, funerals, parties and churches of all these types, I wonder what their wailing will sound like when it is done to them?

    • Spirit of America October 20th, 2014 at 8:49 pm

Fight wrong with wrong? Besides, it’s already been done, 1993 comes to mind.

      • searambler October 20th, 2014 at 9:02 pm

I think a better response would be to send rainbow-colored floral arrangements to this guys church whenever there’s a straight wedding being performed. Signed “With love, Steven and David.”

        • Spirit of America October 20th, 2014 at 11:26 pm

Hey, I kind of like that!

          • tracey marie October 20th, 2014 at 11:54 pm

            You were correct

          • Spirit of America October 20th, 2014 at 11:58 pm

Yea, it is a good idea… I can just imagine the response to the press:
“How dare they send nice flowers & and a well wish for the couple!”
            hehehe

          • tracey marie October 21st, 2014 at 12:07 am

I do believe I owe you an apology for a few ugly comments. Seems i missjudged you and went all crazy. I apologize

          • Spirit of America October 21st, 2014 at 12:16 am

That was a very nice thing to read for me on the internet and shows you definitely have quite the noble character, I thank you.
If I have a very bad today, I’ll think of this post and I’ll get through it.

      • tracey marie October 20th, 2014 at 11:33 pm

I know you are correct, I just get angry at the way the GLBT people are treated by these phonies.

        • Spirit of America October 20th, 2014 at 11:45 pm

The anger and the why for the anger is totally understandable.
Read what searambler wrote here, I think it’s a funny/good idea!

          • tracey marie October 20th, 2014 at 11:48 pm

I will, thanks for the tip.

    • androgyne anode October 21st, 2014 at 1:54 am

There’s not really a GLBT community to speak of.

Most of the political stuff is centered around affluent gay men. Let them crash the weddings. The rest of us have to work.

  8. androgyne anode October 20th, 2014 at 7:05 pm

    wow, what a creep.
