The shooter at Marysville Pilchuck High School in Washington has been identified by family members. The 14-year-old was a freshman at the school. Jaylen Fryberg walked into the school’s cafeteria shortly before 11 a.m. and opened fire.

In total, two are reportedly dead including the shooter, and his victim was a female. Four others are injured. It’s not clear if the deceased female victim was a staff member or a student, but a student at the school told the Seattle Times that the “shooter was angry at a girl who would not date him, and that the girl was one of the people shot.”

According to KIRO, Police believe the 14-year-old used a .40-caliber Beretta handgun. Investigators are performing a trace to the place of purchase.

Fryberg sent out a Tweet on Thursday that said “It won’t last…it will never last.”

That was the teenager’s last tweet.

According to a source, Fryberg had been suspended from school last week for being involved in a fight, and a close friend said he had been bullied.

KIRO reports:

A crossfit coach at the school described Fryberg as happy-go-lucky and ambituous. He was a member of the Tulalip Tribe. A fellow student said Fryberg seemed happy and was talking to other students a few hours before the shooting.
Police did not yet know whether the victim who died in the shooting was a student or staff member.

Four victims, two young females and two young males, arrived at Providence Regional Hospital with gunshot wounds. Three had gunshot wounds to the head and are in critical condition. The fourth victim, a 14-year-old boy, was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he is in intensive care in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the jaw.

A Harborview spokesperson said the boy would survive.

In a country where school shootings never happen far too much, the people in the town are stunned. Di Andres, whose 17-year-old son is a student at the school, said her son texted her about the shooting.

“He said that the school has been in lockdown and he’s been hiding in a closet in a classroom with some classmates,” she said.. “As far as we know, he’s okay and safe with those other classmates.”

President Obama has been briefed on the situation.

It’s shit like this as to why we can’t have a discussion on gun laws:

All day long the right wing nuts have been blaming it on liberals, and it turns out to be a 14 year old kid with girlfriend problems. Right wingers are always wrong.

    • tracey marie October 24th, 2014 at 6:53 pm

why would this be a liberal problem, what is their reasoning …or should I say rant

      • Anomaly 100 October 24th, 2014 at 7:00 pm

Do you have a Twitter account? I’ve seen a few blaming evil libruls.

        • tracey marie October 24th, 2014 at 7:11 pm

          No, I limit my “outreach”

          • Anomaly 100 October 24th, 2014 at 8:19 pm

Aw, too bad. I’d love to see you there, but I understand.

          • tracey marie October 24th, 2014 at 8:21 pm

            I would scare myself

          • Anomaly 100 October 24th, 2014 at 8:26 pm

            I’m not askeered of you!

          • tracey marie October 24th, 2014 at 8:33 pm

You have never seen the wrath of tracey unleashed on teabaggers and others of that ilk

          • Anomaly 100 October 24th, 2014 at 8:50 pm

Gf, I’d love to see it. We need you out there:-)

          • M D Reese October 24th, 2014 at 8:49 pm

Off topic, but I saw you here. I was listening to one of my favorite groups earlier–Cake–and they have a song called “Sheep go to Heaven, Goats go to Hell”. I haven’t listened to it yet but it sounds intriguing.

          • Anomaly 100 October 24th, 2014 at 9:30 pm

            I’m gonna Google it!

          • M D Reese October 25th, 2014 at 3:46 pm

I don’t know why, but I’ve been running into a lot of goat-related things lately!
I like a lot of Cake’s songs, but favorites are “Comfort Eagle” and “Short Skirt–Long jacket!”

        • whatthe46 October 24th, 2014 at 7:24 pm

          quite pathetic.

      • M D Reese October 24th, 2014 at 8:46 pm

Indeed. If it was a liberal problem (whatever THAT means…) then it would be because the boy could NOT get his hands on a gun and go shoot up the school.

        • tracey marie October 24th, 2014 at 8:48 pm

That is why the right will lose this argument in the long run

    • ShelleysLeg October 25th, 2014 at 10:59 am

I didn’t see it, but I KNEW they would make that claim!! It’s ‘ALWAYS’ a librul who goes on a rampage, didn’t you know that! And doubly ridiculous since they claim we’re all askeered of guns!!

  2. edmeyer_able October 24th, 2014 at 6:19 pm

The gun he used has one purpose, to inflict bodily harm on a person. WTF is a 14 yo doing with this weapon?

    • annaaurora October 24th, 2014 at 8:00 pm

      I need air. For real.

    • M D Reese October 24th, 2014 at 8:45 pm

Well hey–the girl wouldn’t go out with him! What’s a 14 year-old boy to do? Go get dad’s gun and kill her, of course…(snark–I don’t get this whole macho “women OWE me sex” concept. Maybe women should just start shooting guys who hit on them inappropriately.)

  3. Ayn Awnemus October 24th, 2014 at 6:21 pm

OK, looking at his past tweets, he seems like the polar opposite of “happy go lucky”. Whoever said that about him obviously didn’t know him too well

  4. Suzanne McFly October 24th, 2014 at 6:30 pm

That “Ol’ lady” was spot on in her response 😉

  5. fancypants October 24th, 2014 at 6:33 pm

@Miller_196 I’m so sorry you’re inconvenienced with such a tragedy. You sir, are the real victim, not those kids.
you should have told him to shoot blanks like he did before buying a gun
    Get with it girl !

  6. StoneyCurtisll October 24th, 2014 at 6:46 pm

    How many more?….
How many more times are we going to have to see theses mass school shootings before something is done to prevent theses psychos from access to firearms?

  7. StoneyCurtisll October 24th, 2014 at 6:49 pm

If only more of those middle school students had been armed, they could have prevented the shooter from killing those students…(satire)

This bizarre thought brought to you by the NRA…

  8. tracey marie October 24th, 2014 at 6:52 pm

when are the adults going to wake up and realize a gun culture in a home is neither healthy or intelligent. This kid is a great shot and used to being around and shooting guns. STOP and THINK before making guns available to young, immature and hormonal kids

    • rg9rts October 25th, 2014 at 2:23 am

      New day new game

    • greenfloyd October 25th, 2014 at 6:21 am

“Gun culture” isn’t healthy anywhere! Apparently this 14 year-old brought the gun from home. Where, I suspect, it was not properly secured and probably not the only weapon available, just the most convenient, and deadly. It always shocks me in cases like this how it got so far, without the parents or anyone else apparently not having a clue. Makes me wonder what was going on at home and is there a lesson there for everyone blessed with a teenager these days?

  9. whatthe46 October 24th, 2014 at 7:28 pm

just learned that the gun belonged to his father.

    • StoneyCurtisll October 24th, 2014 at 7:40 pm

I have to wonder how his father feels, knowing his son took his gun to school and shot a bunch of kids, and himself?..(I haven’t heard the details yet)
I dont know if the kid killed himself or shot by police.?

      • Republicans_are_Evil October 24th, 2014 at 7:42 pm

Maybe the NRA can send him a bouquet of flowers.

        • Robert Merrill Taylor October 24th, 2014 at 8:27 pm

Wayne Lapierre will be too busy celebrating by fellating Rick Perry to send flowers.

        • M D Reese October 24th, 2014 at 8:38 pm

They’d be more inclined to send his father a coupon for a new gun to replace the one that is now in the hands of the police. And maybe something in a pink revolver for his mother.

      • whatthe46 October 24th, 2014 at 8:10 pm

        he killed himself.

        • StoneyCurtisll October 24th, 2014 at 8:51 pm

          That figures…
a lot of them end up that way..:)

  10. Republicans_are_Evil October 24th, 2014 at 8:23 pm

If homeland security came to take away my inventory, I might be inclined to resist with lethal force.

    • nidur October 25th, 2014 at 11:39 pm

      You’d lose

  11. Robert Merrill Taylor October 24th, 2014 at 8:25 pm

Americans love their guns more than they love their children.

    • M D Reese October 24th, 2014 at 8:36 pm

      Sad but true.

  12. M D Reese October 24th, 2014 at 8:35 pm

Thanks, NRA, for making double-darn sure that this issue is never dealt with in a rational manner. Thanks also to the NRAs sock puppets in Congress who will not allow the CDC to investigate a health issue that kills over 11,000 Americans intentionally, and no telling how many more by “accident” because of course we’re not allowed to have that information thanks to the NRA.
And as for guys killing women who won’t have sex with them–FUCK OFF! Women do not owe you a damned thing. They especially don’t owe you sex. What the hell is wrong with us that these guys think that they are entitled to just go pick out a woman, club her over the head and drag her off to have sex?
    Oh, right:

    • Anomaly 100 October 25th, 2014 at 5:32 am

Good grief those cufflinks are offensive as hell.

      • M D Reese October 25th, 2014 at 3:34 pm

I just love how the fox babes twitter and fawn, don’t you?

        • Anomaly 100 October 25th, 2014 at 4:04 pm

          They are that special.

          • M D Reese October 25th, 2014 at 4:18 pm

They are indeed. I’m bracing myself for election night. I wonder if they’ll have Turdblossom on again? He was a scream last time.
I’m feeling smug–I voted already. The clerk told me that they are getting more early voting than usual. 100 people voted in a day and a half–out of a voting population of maybe 8,000-10,000. Our turnout percent usually isn’t that high, so 100 early voters is a lot for here.

          • Anomaly 100 October 25th, 2014 at 4:25 pm

Oh please, please, please let’s have another Karl Rove meltdown. Sometimes if I’m down in the dumps, I play the video, then I LOL.

          • M D Reese October 25th, 2014 at 4:37 pm

I’ll have to look it up and bookmark it. Classic stuff. I’ll bet Jon Stewart has a good clip of it.

  13. Republicans_are_Evil October 24th, 2014 at 8:48 pm

I may regret suggesting this, but wouldn’t it be easier if prostitution were legal, and sex wasn’t such a big deal for a horny 14 year old boy?

    • DaddyO_969 October 25th, 2014 at 12:25 am

The usual outcome of thwarted sex drive. Only the most pressing of drives.
