A 13-year-old boy was shot nine times by a Gary, Indiana, man after he felt the boy was laughing at him. Koby Jone was killed by a neighbor who was upset after his house was burglarized, then became enraged when the teen laughed at him, according to police.

[su_center_ad]Kobe Jones died of multiple gunshot wounds near his home and was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:31 p.m. on Friday, the Lake County coroner’s office reported.

According to the Post-Tribune, Lt. Thomas Pawlak said the homeowner returned home about 5:00 p.m. to learn of the burglary, which occurred about 12:30 p.m.. The unidentified man stood outside his house yelling. That drew the attention of  some of his neighbors including the boy.

When the man saw the teen laughing at him, he pulled out a gun, then shot the boy nine times, police said.

Pawlak said the man and his girlfriend fled the scene in a car but returned about 7:00 p.m. The couple was arrested and they are being held at the city jail, pending charges being filed against them.

Thanks NRA! This is another example of the stupidity of guns everywhere, anytime, for everybody. Yes, this neighborhood sure was safe because of guns! Another shining example of how fucking demented we are as a nation to permit this public health scourge to continue.

  2. Jake October 25th, 2014 at 7:27 pm

So this bastard’s gun didn’t protect his house from being burglarized but it did serve to murder a child. Gun owners are a-holes – planing simple.

Not all of us are. Some of us favor the background checks and gun registry laws and the like. I personally would love to see guns have chips in them that make them unable to fire unless registered to a user and such. But sadly tech like that is still a ways off.

For now I just want to see psych exams and identification laws and registration be mandatory. . . . .as well as say maybe some clip limits?

      • Tommy6860 October 25th, 2014 at 10:45 pm

The technology to which you allude is already here, but the NRA blocks it being used as well as microstamping. The NRA also blocks the usage of taggants in gunpowder. All they care about are sales no matter who can get the guns.

        • Nicholas Russell Harris October 25th, 2014 at 11:42 pm

You and Carla are both obviously very knowledgeable and I appreciate that. This is the kind of conversation I wish I could see and be a part of more.

I hope with everything I have that soon the laws and tech get here, because it would make me feel safer than owning guns. Mine I own mainly because I love the history and feel of shooting them.

Mostly I wabt to build a kind of shed or something to house them almost like a private museum. But I digress. The laws are needed and the biometrics in the guns are needed and I gladly throw my vote behind those measures to counter the psychopaths at the NRA.

You’re right – not all are like these parents and so very many more we read about. Honestly, as a teen he could have been able to put his hands on it regardless. We never had guns in the house when I was an adolescent/teen and trust me – I knew where and could put my hands on everything in that house. Mostly my folks weed and liquor but they hid it well and under lock and key.

The issue is with expecting small children to be too stupid or mind appropriately at the age of 4. The other is depressed teens – get them out of the house. I am not, nor should I be a gun owner. It’s just something I know. All three of my children own guns. They have received extensive training and never carry them outside the house unless hunting. All own bio-metric gun safes with a second padlock metal case that holds the ammo in another room. Both sons have children and one a wife that struggles with drug addiction. They understand the importance of true gun safety. It has nothing to do with me, but their father.

I understand the rub of a registration but feel those arguments lack validity. Ammo can be made, I don’t have as big a problem with this in handguns but long guns present their own issues. Background checks in all sales, including private ones. Fixing the background check to be effective and as someone that feels HIPPA is as sacred as the 2nd amendment – if you want to buy/carry/own a gun then you should be fine with a background check, medical/psychological history review.

Why hasn’t the perp been identified but the victim has; am I missing something? In any case, the gun nuttery in this country is beyond being just a scourge on our society.

    • Sy Colepath October 25th, 2014 at 8:18 pm

It’s the prelude to blaming the victim, since he is obviously black.

Used to be the jails were over crowded with marijuana users. Looks like they’re getting quite the competition from the gun enthusiasts gone postal.

  5. majii October 25th, 2014 at 8:03 pm

It amazes and confounds me, that so many gun enthusiasts, who are among the first to talk about how “exceptional” America is, can watch the death toll from gun violence increase and can continue to believe we’re an exceptional nation. Imo, there’s nothing exceptional about having thousands die each year from preventable deaths-by-gun in a civilized society.

    • Patti October 26th, 2014 at 6:04 pm

The NRA has taught them that these murdered people have no value. And that disgusting piece of filth Joe the Wack Plumber said it best for them – your dead kid’s life does not trump my constitutional right to a own a gun. They don’t care how many people die and we know this because if they did Sandy Hook would have made them see the light. If you can laugh and whine at the murder of 6 years old then you can certainly not have a problem with anything else.

  6. Obewon October 25th, 2014 at 8:17 pm

A 53 year old gun owners missing junk isn’t worth any 13 year old kids life. Now all the prisoners will laugh and taunt this child killer for the rest of his days as a human toilet.

    • whatthe46 October 25th, 2014 at 8:46 pm

his life is over (good) and for what. everyday, while he sits in prison, he’ll be reminded by those bars what a bastard he was. no doubt he had serious issues prior to this.

      • Obewon October 25th, 2014 at 8:56 pm

This is one of the few circumstances where it doesn’t matter what insanity he claims. Inmates will simply say ‘Where’s John? I gotta take a dump.’

an unhinged gun nut kills a kid for laughing at his insane ranting in public.

  8. veggiedude October 25th, 2014 at 9:53 pm

Reminds me of another story. About 40 kids were laughing at someone and then God made a bear kill them all. It’s in the Old Testament.

Ye shall not make fun of the bald, says the Lord.

    • Patti October 26th, 2014 at 5:59 pm

No wonder more and more are turning from organized religion. And who can blame them.

  9. Foundryman October 25th, 2014 at 9:59 pm

Just like this guy, every gun owner in the country is just one trigger pull away from being a killer. Very very few of them can be trusted not to harm someone with a loaded weapon.

    • StoneyCurtisll October 25th, 2014 at 10:04 pm

Law abiding gun owner one minute…
      Cold blooded killer the next.
      happens every day in UhMerica.

  10. StoneyCurtisll October 25th, 2014 at 10:21 pm

And people are freaking out about Ebola….(one death in just over a month)
On average three people are killed by a gun per hour and almost seven people are shot every 60 minutes.
One has to wonder where our priorities lie.

Loud music, popcorn throwing, door banging, skittles carrying, cigar stealing, and now mocking…

    • BreitbartLovesEwe October 29th, 2014 at 12:59 pm

To tell the truth, I’m not absolutely sure what to take away from this story. While it’s easy to see the similarity between this case and the other to which you allude, I also find myself wondering what kind of person laughs in the face of someone who is obviously distraught over a burglary.

      • EboTebo November 3rd, 2014 at 3:25 pm

Could it be that the robbed homeowner was making an asshat of himself (which I’m going to go out on a limb and say he was usually an asshat), and the kid was the closest/youngest/laughed the loudest/etc….etc…..etc………

        • BreitbartLovesEwe November 3rd, 2014 at 3:29 pm

I ask again: who laughs in the face of someone who is obviously distraught? I don’t profess to know what the particulars in this case actually are–and I’m certainly not attempting to justify a shooting. I simply ask whether is there is more to this story than just another crazed gun nut killing an innocent child. I think the facts presented here suggest that there is more. No decent person will laugh in the face of someone who is obviously distraught.

  15. CTN October 26th, 2014 at 12:51 am

mocking kids should be shot and then shot again. it should be legal to blow their heads off.

all mockers actually. adult mockers too. nothing more likely to enrage.

  16. rg9rts October 26th, 2014 at 4:57 am

Has a real future in law enforcement

  17. crc3 October 26th, 2014 at 9:34 am

This is never going to end. A gun mentality breeds violence. Gun violence is so deeply imbedded into our society it has become an out of control cancer. The NRA…gun lobbyists..and gun manufacturers are totally responsible for these shootings. The NRA’s payoffs of politicians continues unabated which means no sensible gun legislation will ever be passed. Peace loving citizens have been muzzled and have no say in the crisis. We have become an apathetic society numbed by the violence. We will have more school shootings…more Trayvon Martins and Michael Browns…and God knows what else to look forward to and the world watches as America crumbles under the weight of our so called “right to bear arms”….

  18. Patti October 26th, 2014 at 5:58 pm

The NRA looks at this murder and laughs. This is what they want – an irrational out of control group of supporters with guns who murder on a whim.
