Yes, this is one of those academic studies that confirms what we all believe to be true.  But since some have made the argument that mass shootings are no more frequent than ever, it is always good to have data.

new research from the Harvard School of Public Health demonstrates that mass shootings in public have become far more frequent. The Harvard findings are also corroborated by a separate report issued recently by the FBI.[su_csky_ad]

Was the definition of “mass shooting” consistent across the timeline?

Every event has its cheerleaders stuart

I played sports and never was a cheerleader, but I bet good money cheerleaders are a lot smarter than anyone in that group.

Hey, there’s a black guy in that photo you racist!

I was a cheerleader as well as active in sports. No idea about how smart I may be, but definitely smart enough to know that slinging a long gun over my shoulder as I walk around in a public mall is likely to get the wrong kind of attention.

You’ve got to drill down a bit, but here’s the answer to R.J.’s question:

According to our statistical analysis of more than three decades of data, in 2011 the United States entered a new period in which mass shootings are occurring more frequently. Our analysis used data compiled by Mother Jones on attacks that took place in public, in which the shooter and the victims generally were unrelated and unknown to each other, and in which the shooter murdered four or more people. (An incident with four or more homicide victims was the threshold count for mass killing established by the FBI a decade ago; a federal law signed by President Obama in 2013 defined the threshold as three or more victims killed.)

Gee, the data is consistent with the increasing strength and stridency of the NRA. Coincidence? I think not.

NRA had to become more proactive because they waited a week after the kids were massacred on East coast out of respect….well of course that wasn’t smart the Liberals wen to town making fools of anyone who owns a weapon and how unsafe the world is when citizens are allowed to own a weapon, that don’t happen anymore the NRA will be out there in force any time someone plans on slamming gun ownership or messing with, carry concealed laws, semi automatic weapons and rifles.

Gee, I wonder why that is. It couldn’t be NRA promoting guns or the manic open carry laws. It must be because of the black guy in the white house.

    • bahlers October 29th, 2014 at 3:44 am

How many of the maniacal open carry advocates have committed mass murder? I don’t recall any.

      • Bunya October 29th, 2014 at 10:38 am

If you’d have read my post, you’d have noticed that I called the open carry laws maniacal. As for how many people have been killed by firearms due to their easy access, one has only to watch the news to get an accurate count. However that number changes every 10 seconds.

        • bahlers November 3rd, 2014 at 4:46 pm

Oh really? I was unaware that any members of Open Carry whatever city you want had committed a murder.

      • Allan Kim Harrison November 14th, 2014 at 8:30 am

        How many were NRA members?

So the message is leave your gun at home and hover near those gun free zone signs or hide under the tables, play dead or beg for your life? What’s your other option, oh yea buy a gun, get some training, practice and obtain your carry concealed weapons license or just stick your head in the sand and claim your neighborhood is cherry and that never happens here, ok.
