[su_right_ad]Austin Flake, son of Arizona Senator Jeff Flake, pled not guilty.

Flake and his wife Logan were both arraigned and charged with 21 felony counts and seven misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, after an alleged act of negligence caused nearly two dozen dogs, staying at a vacation kennel owned by his in-laws, to suffocate and die in a small, overheated room last June. “Some had been wrapped in blankets and left in front of the house,” reported the New York Times, noting that Green Acre Dog Boarding claimed that they only hosted a few dogs at a time. “More than a dozen others had been piled in a tool shed.”

The young couple were watching the dogs while Logan’s parents, MaLeisa and Jesse Todd Hughes, were on vacation in Florida. The Hugheses have also been charged with 22 counts of felony animal abuse, for not properly maintaining the air conditioning in the room where the dogs eventually died in the sweltering Arizona heat.

The case has rocked the town of Gilbert, and the owners of the dogs told the Times that they saw Flake and the Hugheses’ actions as a betrayal. “It looked perfect from the outside, but we were deceived from the moment we dropped our dogs off,” said Shannon Gillette, who lost two golden retrievers.[su_csky_ad]

I bet it’s not the first time animals have been abused by them.

It’s Arizona and life only matters (regardless of species) when it’s in the womb. And the outrage had this guy been the son of a democrat?

This is so sad for the dog owners who trusted this bunch. They had a license to board dogs? There were inspections? Oh, sorry, it’s libertarian utopia there and I lost my head!

I can’t read this entire article, it affects me too much, but there is a special place in hell for anyone who hurts a helpless animal.

I agree. I save kitty cats and they have helped me in the past with a medical condition, not “Cat Scratch Fever” necessarily, though I have had that also, but to harm, what we call domestic pets, is a terrible thing to do, it shows an evil character. Peace

I live in Gilbert, and there is more to the story. The Flakes then LIED to the dogs’ owners and said that their pets had run away. Also, the only dog to be fed belonged to the Hugheses, the owners of the facility.
