[su_right_ad]Bill Cosby is laying low right now after several women have alleged he raped them years ago.

The latest evidence is the cancellation of a planned appearance by Mr. Cosby, scheduled for Wednesday, on David Letterman’s late-night show on CBS. The show declined to say on Friday whether Mr. Cosby withdrew from the appearance or the show made the decision to replace him. “We can’t comment on the booking process,” a spokeswoman for the show, Kim Izzo-Emmet, said…

On Thursday, The Washington Post posted online a first-person article by a former actress named Barbara Bowman, who said that Mr. Cosby had drugged and raped her on more than one occasion in the mid-1980s during a period of time when he was mentoring her as a young actress. That was at the same time he was starring in the biggest hit on television, “The Cosby Show.”

Ms. Bowman’s allegations follow similar charges by other women, one of whom, Andrea Constand, filed a civil suit against Mr. Cosby in 2005, which promised to include testimony from 13 other then-unnamed women. One of those was Ms. Bowman, she said in her article. The suit was settled for an undisclosed amount. Both Mr. Cosby and his attorney have issued denials of the charges at various points.[su_csky_ad]

Other than my family, Bill Cosby was the only “role model” I had while growing up.

The TV Show I Spy started in the late 1960’s when I was in junior high school. I watched in absolute amazement as for the very first time in my life, a black man on television was not a shoeshine boy or a janitor or the butt of stupid jokes. He was an intelligent, educated college graduate who spoke multiple languages including perfect English.

Moreover, in his comedy routines, there was nary a curse word or sex reference to be found anywhere. Your kids could listen to his comedy records.

I hope against hope that none of these allegations are true. But that hope is quickly fading. One accusation might be false. But over a dozen with women willing to go public is likely not a scenario for false accusations.

I wish you could say it ain’t so Bill. But at this point, I personally would not believe you.

I was pondering this earlier. This is the conclusion I came to. Cosby was an important part of my childhood. I don’t want to believe he’s a sexual predator. Being progressive, I realize that my beliefs and reality are two entirely different things. I concede that it is a likely possibility. So, what would it take to convince me and millions of others that he is not a rapist? To start, I would have to have absolute faith in the justice system. That’s impossible at this point. If Cosby is guilty, he should not have the ability to bribe his way out of jail time. The corollary to that is: victims should not accept money in exchange for punishment. Basically, bribery is rampant throughout the entire justice system as it is in the political system. Neither can be trusted.

Is Cosby guilty? We may never know because society no longer has a truth meter that functions properly.

I grew up watching him also and even though I don’t share his beliefs, I hope this isn’t true. It is sad but as a society we romanticize our stars, athletes, and musicians too much and it hurts when we realize they are humans too.

Cosby has no criminal charges against him so he has no worry of going to jail..
The statute of limitations has long expired for anything he might have done back in the 80’s.
He is facing civil suits from his accusers.
I would like to think he is not a rapist, I grew listening to him and watching Fat Albert Saturday mornings.

But his silence, and cancellation of TV appearances seem strange..
But on the other hand, I could understand how a nearly 80 year old guy might just be too tired to deal with it.

Good points. I may decide to not alter my view of him. Just act as if he’s passed away essentially. What good would it do to think negatively of him at this point.
